Psoriasis - How Homeopathic Remedies Can Help?

Psoriasis - How Homeopathic Remedies Can Help?

What is Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a common skin disease characterized by thickened patches of inflamed, red skin covered with thick, silvery scales. The elbows and knees are the most common areas affected by psoriasis. It will often appear in the same place on both sides of the body. The patches can range in size from smaller than a dime to larger than a hand.

Description of Psoriasis-

Normally, skin cells mature and shed after about a month. In psoriasis, the cell maturation speeds up, taking only three to four days. Because the lower layer of skin cells divide more rapidly than normal, dead cells accumulate in thicker patches on the skin's outermost layer called the 'Epidermis'.

Forms & Classifications-

Psoriasis occurs in a variety of forms that differ in their intensity, duration, location, shape and pattern of scales. The most common forms are:

  1. Plaque Psoriasis: Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of psoriasis. It is characterized by raised, inflamed, red lesions covered with a silvery-white buildup of dead skin cells (scales). This is found primarily on the Body, elbows, knees, scalp and finger or toe nails.
  2. Guttate Psoriasis: Guttate psoriasis occurs most frequently in children and is characterized by numerous small, red, drop-like scaly macules that develop rapidly over a wide area of skin. This may appear following an infection, most frequently strep throat
  3. Inverse Psoriasis: Inverse psoriasis occurs in the armpit, under the breast, in skin folds, around the groin, in the cleft between the buttocks and around the genitals. It is usually pink and irritated but lacks the thick scale seen in other forms of psoriasis.
  4. Pustular Psoriasis: Pustular psoriasis is a rare form characterized by small pustules (whitehead-like lesions) found all over the body or confined all over the body or confined to the palms, soles and other isolated areas of the body.

Some dermatologists classify psoriasis as mild, moderate, or severe- Mild psoriasis is considered to be scaling over less than 5-10 percent of the body, moderate psoriasis is considered to be scaling over 10 to 20 percent of the body and severe psoriasis is considered to be scaling more than 20 percent of the body.

In 5 percent of all psoriasis sufferers, arthritis will develop. This condition is called psoriatic arthritis. Arthritis is inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain, swelling and changes in joint structure.

Causes:
The underlying psoriasis cause is unknown; however, it can be genetically inherited or passed from generation to generation. Most researchers agree that the Auto Immunity is somehow mistakenly triggered, which speeds up the growth cycle of skin cells. Psoriasis can be triggered by a number of factors, such as stress, climate changes, streptococcal or HIV infection, superficial wounds, physical illness, or taking certain drugs such as lithium, beta-blockers such as propranolol, quinidine (Heart medication) or antimalarial medications.

Treatment-
Homeopathy is preferred over other methods due to the reason that it does not entail any side effects. Instead of suppressing inflammation like other methods of treatment, it aims to cure the root cause of the disease. Yes, psoriasis can be cured permanently through constitutional Homeopathy treatment but the question is how can a patient know whether eruptions are disappearing for permanently or temporarily?

Permanent Cure takes place as follows:

Cure is taken place from Upward to downwards and Center to periphery. First, the cracks come down with arresting of blood coming out from it. After that, the eruption on scalp comes down, if the scaling is thick it becomes gradually thin and then becomes powdery and with time, the scaling disappears totally. After that, eruptions on face and body come down, and at same time eruptions in hands & legs may increase with itching. Eruptions on elbows reduce, after sometime eruptions near to hands, also reduce. While eruptions on legs itches more. However, eruptions on legs also get disappeared. During the total process of cure, you will feel sleepy, and the bowel movement will be regular, sometimes there may be loose stools as well. The various homeopathic remedies that are used to treat psoriasis: Lycopodium, Sulphur, Pulasatilla, Staphysagria, Graphitis, sepia, Arsenic alb, Natrum mur etc.

How Does Nasyam Treatment Control Premature Graying Of Hair?

How Does Nasyam Treatment Control Premature Graying Of Hair?

Spotting the very first strand of grey hair in your 20s can be an intimidating sight. We usually expect our hair to turn grey by the time we are 30s or 40s, but having grey hair in your early age shows that you are a victim of premature graying. Although one or two strands of grey hair is not unusual, too much greying can cause you to panic.

Ayurveda and grey hair-
According to Ayurveda, any dosha imbalance in the body or disequilibrium in the mind-body constitution causes premature hair graying. Losing of hair is called khalitya and premature graying of hair is called palitya. They are pure paitik disorders or ones arising from our pitta dosha imbalances.

The pitta aggravation in the body is usually caused by-

  1. Oily and spicy food
  2. Acidity
  3. Over exposure and intolerance to heat
  4. Excess sweating

Nasyam or Nyasa is a Panchakarma treatment, an Ayurvedic variant of detoxification therapy, which applies herbal oils, juices and powders through the nostrils. Medicated oils / powders / juices stimulate the important points of the brain to cure specific diseases. The nose is considered to be the gateway to the human brain, this procedure is used to cure several ailments related to the head. It effectively treats diseases related to migranes, sinuses, throat, nose, ear and all organs above the neck.

Nasyam treatment and greying of hair
Nasyam treatment can be categorised into five forms-

  1. Pradhamana Nasya
  2. Brumhana Nasya
  3. Shamana Nasya
  4. Navana Nasya
  5. Marshya Nasya

Navana is a part of nyasa treatment meant for shodhana or snehana. It is widely used to treat excess hair fall. Nasyam is a proven ayurvedic treatment meant to improve hair texture and strength.

Procedure

  1. Poorvakarma or pre purificatory measures: It Includes facial oil massaging or application of steam to the face, forehead, head, ears and neck. This helps to loosen and eliminate the Doshas.
  2. Pradhanakarma or main procedure of Nasya: This is the main step of Nasya and includes application of luke warm medication through the nostrils, alternately, with the help of a dropper. The sole, shoulder, neck, ear and palm are gently massaged along with the administration of this drug.
  3. Paschatkarma or post therapeutic measures: The patients clean their mouth by gargling with lukewarm water and then medicated smoke is given to them to inhale.

How does the treatment work?
The oils used for Nasya therapy are shadbindu, neem, or yashtimadhu. The medicines applied through the nostrils pervade into the venous system (Blood circulation) and nervous system (Brain) present in and around the nostrils, which then relives the blockage of the channels. This has a large impact on graying of hair and works to control it. It also makes the hair quality better.

Nasya treatment does not cause any serious side effect, although it is recommended only after heavy meals or Shirodhara. Hence, to control hair graying, the nasyam treatment has been a proven Ayurvedic treatment with effective and healthy results that is being availed by more and more people.

Jock Itch - Measures You Must Take!

Jock itch can be defined as a fungal infection affecting the skin, especially around the inner thighs, genitals, buttocks or the groin region. Also called ‘tinea cruris’, this condition triggers irritation that results from the ring-shaped red rashes that primarily affect the warm and moist regions of one’s body. This condition majorly affects people who sweat excessively, such as athletes or even people who are over-weight. Although it is often bothersome and uncomfortable, jock itch doesn’t bring about severe complications for the affected individual. Jock itch can easily be cured by keeping the groin region dry and applying topical anti-fungal medications.

Symptoms:

The main symptoms of Jym itch include itchy and painful rashes in the buttock, inner thigh or the groin region. The rash is usually tan, red or brown in color, slightly scaly and often formed at the edges.

Causes:

  1. Putting on damp, wet or unlaundered clothing, such as athletic supporter and very tight underwear or wearing them frequently.

  2. Sharing towels that were used by a person suffering from the same condition.

  3. Taking showers irregularly, especially after excessive sweating or exercising.

  4. Living in hot and humid conditions.

  5. Obesity.

  6. Wearing tight clothing.

  7. Immune system disorders.

Treatment:

  1. Anti-fungal creams or lotions can help treat ringworm of the groin. Few examples are Miconazole, Econazole, Clotrimazole and Ketoconazole. These medications should be applied twice a day for about two to four weeks.

  2. In case the eruptions start to ooze fluids or pus, antibiotics may be administered by the doctor.

General Measures:

Measures to prevent recurrence of tinea cruris include weight reduction (if obese), wearing less occlusive clothing, drying thoroughly after bathing, using topical antifungal powders, laundering contaminated clothing, and treating concomitant fungal infection of nail of feet, if present.

Rhinoplasty - Know More About It!

Rhinoplasty - Know More About It!

Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as nose surgery, is a cosmetic form of operation designed to change the shape and size of the nose.

A rhinoplasty can effectively change the size and width of the nose to complement the facial balance. It also helps improve nasal symmetry efficiently enhancing your facial features.

How is the surgery performed?
You can opt for either general anesthesia or local anesthesia for the surgery. The surgery is generally an outpatient procedure, but occasionally patients are asked to stay in the hospital overnight post the surgery.

The operation involves an incision which is made for easy access to the cartilage and bones of the nose. These incisions are generally placed inside the nose, so that they do not appear as scar marks after the surgery is done. Removal or replacement of the bone or cartilage depends on the demands of the restructuring of the nose. Once the reshaping of the nose is done, the nose tissue is put back into place and a splint is temporarily placed to support the new structure of the nose. The splint is removed once the nose heals.

Precautions to take after a nose surgery

After a nose surgery, the area around your nose will stay swollen and bruised for a considerable period of time. Thus you have to ensure that-

1.  You get ample amount of rest
2.  Use cold compresses over the swollen nose area, this will reduce the swelling and ease the pain
3.  Do not indulge in relatively vigorous physical activity for sometime
4.  Take you medicines regularly

Risks of nose surgery

Every surgery or medical procedure involves certain risks, and so does rhinoplasty. Along with some puffiness and bruising around the eye and nose region, you may also experience-

1.  Some amount of bleeding
2.  Injury to the septum area
3.  Irritation of the skin and skin problems
4.  Infections
5.  Nasal blockage due to swelling in the inner nasal area
6.  Complications resulting from anesthesia
Although there are certain risks to rhinoplasty, the surgery is considerably safe and the results are quite permanent.

Laser Tattoo Removal - 7 Recovery Tips!

Many-a-times, people regret of having got themselves inked because the design may no longer suit their lifestyle, interests or the very reason they got inked in the first place might not hold much meaning to them. However, the good part is that, owing to the breakthrough of medical science aided technology, you can now eliminate traces of your past mistake from your skin surface. However, a tattoo removal using LTR (Laser Tattoo Removal) might lead to the formation of scabs, crusts or blisters, within eight to seventy two hours of having undergone the process. This might even form a superficial wound on the skin. To ensure that your skin heals completely, you can consider these tips.

  1. Apply antibiotic ointment on your skin at least thrice a day and keep your inked area bandaged for not less than three days. This protects your weak and damaged skin from infection. After three days, take off the cover to expose the lasered area of your skin to air. This helps your skin to dry out as well as get prepared for your next treatment. Scabbing may persist for a couple of weeks.

  2. Never get panicky on noticing blisters as they play an integral part in the healing process. They are indicative of the fact that the immune system of your body has begun to take off the ink from your skin and is trying to recover.

  3. Do not peel off the crusts, blisters or scabs that have formed after the treatment, lest they might leave scars on your skin.

  4. If you experience any sort of inflammation or discomfort after the removal, try putting ice-pack or using acetaminophen a day after the session.

  5. Use sunblock or sunscreen creams to protect the part of your skin that has undergone treatment. Refrain from applying cosmetics or anything that might cause itching to the area.

  6. Take a shower, about couple of hours after the treatment. Nevertheless, stay away from bathing in a bath tub or even swimming unless the blisters heal completely. The water from a swimming pool or a bath tub may contain bacteria that may result in further infection, thus delaying the healing process.

  7. Get medical assistance in case of any tingling sensation or mild bruising apart from the above mentioned discomfort.
