Please will exercising stop my heart from beating faster because these days my heart beats fast. Please what could be...
Dear Lybrateuser, - It is natural that the heart beats become fast as we exercise, on cooling down or resting it comes back to normal after sometime which is different for different person - do warming for 5-10 min before the main exercise schedule & also do cooling down for 5-10 min after exercise - also include deep breathing & yoga in your schedule as it will help your body relax & bring your heart rate down - also get your blood hemoglobin & thyroid hormone checkup done if your resting heart rate is high (90-100 beats / min or more) - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits & vegetables, whole grains, protein foods & healthy fats, avoid more than 1-2 cups of tea, coffee per day.

Reasons Behind Heart Failure!

Non Invasive Services
Cardiologist, Mohali
Reasons Behind Heart Failure!

Heart failure occurs when the heart fails to pump blood around the body and organs for oxygen and nutrients. As blood moves through the heart and body at a slower rate, pressure in the heart increases. The chambers of the heart stretch to hold more blood to be able to pump through the body. This helps the blood to move but eventually the heart muscle walls weaken, unable to pump blood efficiently. The kidneys, in response cause the body, to retain fluids. The leakage of fluid in the tissues and the organs congests the heart, leading to heart failure.

Any of the following conditions can be responsible for weakening the heart and causing heart failure.

1. Coronary artery disease: this is a disease of the arteries supplying blood and oxygen to the heart that causes decreased blood flow to heart muscle. If the arteries get blocked or narrowed (due to the buildup of fatty deposits), the heart fails to get oxygen and nutrients, which may eventually lead to heart failure.

2. Heart attackif the artery becomes suddenly blocked or the plaques formed by fatty deposits rupture, it can lead to a heart attack. This happens due to the formation of a blood clot which may block blood flow to an area of heart muscle.

3. High blood pressurehigh blood pressure puts an extra strain on the heart for it to work harder to circulate blood throughout the body. As a result, the heart muscle may become stiff or weak to effectively pump blood.

4. Heart muscle weaknessthis condition can have many causes including diseases, infections, drug and alcohol abuse. Genetic factors may also contribute to the weakening of heart muscles.

5. Other diseases: chronic diseases like diabetes, HIV, hyperthyroidism or a buildup of iron or protein can also lead to heart failure.

your lipid profile is normal .No need to take medicene.Triglyceride is little high but is not of much concern.Triglyceride warrants treatment only if it crosses 250.Moreover rosvastatin is not a drug for lowering triglycerides .you can lower triglyceride by cutting oil in food and walking for half hour.

Hello, Thanks for the query. It is difficult to give any opinion as to why suddenly you have increased heart rate or may be palpitations. I need to know if you are having hyperthyroidism (which thyroid problem), high BP and any other cardiac condition. Unless some of the other details are known, no opinion can be given. It is better if you consult a local physician, who will be able to guide properly. Thanks.

You have not mentioned your BP and your reports are not visible as well. But you can continue both the medicines you are taking. Also you should add lifestyle measures to this like - daily brisk walking for around 40 mins begin gradually and increase it to 40 mins, take a detailed diet consult for a heart healthy diet, restrict salt in your diet by avoiding high salt foods like chips, papads, namkeens, pickles etc and quit smoking and drinking. Re-check your cholesterol as well as BP after 6 weeks, if still high then you will require a change in dose or medicine.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Swelling in lower limbs can occur due to a multiple causes like uncontrolled high blood pressure, some heart related issues and even due to improper functioning of kidneys. Sometimes certain drugs also lead to that, like Amlodepine used in reducing BP and pioglitazone used in treating diabetes. EVen over weight and inactivity can also be a cause. So please check his kidney function test, BP readings and also level of physical activity. Thanks.

I am facing low BP problem l. How can I control it? It is lot of pain in right chest, my family doctor said me that it's nothing but LOW bp problem. How I control it?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, DM - Cardiology, Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS - Physician )

Low blood pressure can be due to many reasons like anaemia, hypothyroid vitamin deficiency, some heart issues or even anxiety etc. It is important to find the reason. Also you should mention your BP so that we know the range. You should consult a internal medical specialist or a cardiologist once for a proper evaluation. Some home measures that may help are increasing your liquid intake in form of fresh juices, coconut water, lassi, lemon water, increased daily water intake etc.

My blood pressure is becoming low often. I'm going for night shift work. Does it cause any problems later.

MD Hom., Certificate in Food and Nutrition, BHMS, Diploma In Yoga

People who work night shifts or rotating shifts also often don't sleep enough, and long-term sleep deprivation is known to be bad for health. Shift work disrupts the circadian rhythm -- our internal body clock that is keyed to natural daylight and darkness. Because circadian rhythm affects how the body functions, disrupting it can throw everything out -- including our cardiovascular system, metabolism, digestion, immune system, and hormonal balance. You need to manage your low bp in the night shift by- Eat more protein, fewer carbs during your shift. Not surprisingly, night shift workers often struggle with feelings of drowsiness and making the right food choices can help. .you can take coconut water with you. Avoid sugar and sweetened beverages. Stop Unhealthy Snacking. Stick to a Schedule. Cut Down The Caffeine. Exercise When You Can be hydrated and maintain electrolyte balance take proper rest just follow these simple things. Irrespective of which position you measure the blood pressure, it is the normal range that we want to maintain. So, even if there is change in the readings in different positions, our objective is to monitor it regularly and go for follow-up with the doctor. One can control the BP with a holistic approach towards health. Thus, simply depending upon the doctors and the medications is not wise. Exercise every day for at least 30 mins (add yoga including pranayam and meditation) and eat only healthy food while avoiding all types of outside food. Sleep well and relax more. You can contact me for Homeopathic treatment if there is any fluctuations in your health pattern. Homeopathy tries to bring the natural balance without any side-effects or drug interfere.

7 Signs You Are Having A Stroke!

MBBS, MD (Gen. Medicine), DM (Cardiology)

7 Signs You Are Having A Stroke!

Stroke is a condition known to all for its deadly impact. Even if the affected person survives, the after-effects can be immensely debilitating right from affecting movement to speech. Being informed, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Here are the common signs of stroke that you should be aware of:

  1. Numbing of arms and legs: Many people wake up and find that their arms and legs are numb and they tend to assume that it is due to compression of the nerve. But the actual reality is that the flow of blood through the arteries running up to the spine is reduced, and it has led to weakness or numbness on either side of the body.
  2. Double vision and blurriness: Vision problems can also be a strong indicator of stroke even though most people think it is due to long hours of work or aging. When you see two images of the same object, it doesn’t have to mean that you are reading too much. It could mean that the blood vessel in charge of supplying oxygen to the eyes has been disrupted or blocked.
  3. Slurred speech: Some medicines, particular painkillers can cause speech issues. But this is not the case always; if it is not a side effect that you typically experience after taking painkillers, you should consult a healthcare expert without any delay.
  4. Confusion and trouble over thinking and articulating: When you find yourself in a state where you cannot recall the right word to explain the right thing, you may rest assured that it is an issue stemming from the stroke. If you find yourself to struggle thinking or finding a word very commonly, then you are heading for big trouble.
  5. Balance problems: Some people have balance issues, and they think it is due to the dose of alcohol, but experts say it is crucial to identify whether this assumption is correct. You will never have delayed balance problems, and therefore, you cannot blame a drink that you had last day. So, if you have balance issues without any identifiable reason, it is advisable to call a doctor.
  6. A headache that becomes intolerable at times: Headaches can be a sign of a migraine but in case you are not prone to this ailment, then the debilitating headache could indicate a stroke. Migraine headaches can also mean stroke since both of them have similar signs and symptoms.
  7. Fatigue that won’t let you stay upright: If you are not doing any physically strenuous job but still feel tired most of the time, it could be a warning sign of stroke. If it continues for over a week, it is recommended that you consult an expert immediately.

Equipped with this knowledge, stay aware and pay attention to the indications your body gives to take care of yourself. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cardiologist.

Give him lots n lot of water .folic acid n vitamin c are very helpful to increase platelet count so give him citric fruit juices as much as he can. Always give lil quantity. Do not give a big glass of juice altogether. Give around 50-75 ml den again give 50-75 ml after every half an hr. If your doctor allow give him papaya leaf juice Both the papaya fruit and its leaves can help increase a low platelet count within just a few days. Eat ripe papaya or drink a glass of papaya juice with a little lemon juice 2 or 3 times daily. You can also pound a few papaya leaves without the stalk using a pestle and mortar to extract the juice. Drink 2 tablespoons of this bitter juice 2 times a day. Usually bp decrease in dengue fever. Everything ll b normal in few days don't worry n listen n follow your doctors instructions. I wish speedy recovery to your father. Regards

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Presence of fluid in lungs (pleural effusion), could be due to some underlying problem with the lungs like Tuberculosis. That has to be investigated and if present should be promptly treated with appropriate drugs. Because in persons with diabetes incidence of TB is quite high. High creatinine (3.6 mg) signifies problems with kidney functioning. High BP and uncontrolled diabetes both can cause damage to the kidney leading to increased creatinine, So it is essential for achieving strict blood glucose control and near normal BP. Plus her protein intake has to be not more than 0.6 g/kg /day. Thanks.
