Instead of stocking up on chocolate as glucose boosters, try high-fibre, low sugar oat bars. These take care of your cravings.

"Walking is a good exercise too, as long as you don't have swelling in your knees or ankles, Gofnung adds. Also, Pilates or gentle yoga can improve core muscles and ease the back and hip pain that can be associated with hypothyroidism. Building muscle can help counter possible weight gain from an underactive thyroid.

Hi, I am addicted to taking spasm proxyvon 10 capsules in a day but now I am diabetic so which medicine can I take.
lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Spasm oproxivon contains a narcotic analgesic Tramadol, which can induce dependence or addiction occasionally. It is better to avoid taking these tablets on regular basis, It is better to use it only when prescribed by the Doctor. Second part of your question is unclear to me. Because for diabetes there a need for taking anti-diabetes drugs and achieve a strict glucose control. Thanks.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Looking at your weight and height, with a BMI of 35.57 kgs/Sq meter, you are already in grade 2 obesity. This is one of the problems leading to PCOD> Your ideal body weight should be about 62 kgs, which means you have an excess of 32 plus kgs. Another aspect TSH is marginally high, please get an Anti TPO Antibody test done, to rule out whether there is hypothyroidism also. As regards taking cinnamon and ginger there is absolutely no problem. Thanks.

Diabetic Foot & Revascularization In Them!

MBBS, DNB - Peripheral Vascular Surgery, DNB - General Surgery, MNAMS

Diabetic Foot & Revascularization In Them!

When you have diabetes, your body does not produce enough insulin or loses the ability to utilize it. When this happens, your blood sugar level goes up. Diabetes can affect all organs of the body. Your feet are no exception.

How does diabetes affect the foot?

There are two ways in which the foot may be affected by diabetes -

  1. Diabetic neuropathyDiabetes can damage the nerves of the feet so that you lose all sensations in your extremities. So you can no longer feel any irritation or pain in your feet. If sores/cuts/blisters develop on your feet, you won’t know and they may fester and get infected.
  2. Peripheral vascular disease: This disorder affects the blood vessels of your limbs. Fatty deposits clog the blood vessels that carry blood from your feet to your heart. So blood flow is cut off to the feet. This may lead to pain, numbness, swelling, slow healing of wounds or infection.
  3. Ischemic foot: When blood flow to the feet is interrupted, you may develop an ischemic foot, which is characterized by cold skin, loss of hair from the legs and discoloration. In extreme cases, the affected foot may have to be amputated.

What are the symptoms of diabetic foot?
The range of symptoms depend on the intensity of the disorder and vary from one patient to another-

  • Tingling sensation in the feet
  • Numbness of the feet
  • Blisters or wounds that refuse to heal
  • Discoloration of the skin of the feet
  • Stains on the inside of your socks
  • Deformed feet

If an infection has set in, some symptoms that will manifest are-

  • Trembling of the limbs and arms
  • Spiking blood sugar
  • Shock
  • Redness and swelling of the feet

Complications
The complications that may arise out of diabetic foot are-

  • Ulcers of the foot
  • Abscesses
  • Gangrene and death of tissues
  • Charcot’s Foot or fractures and dislocations of the bones of the feet
  • Deformity of the feet

Revascularization for diabetic foot

Chronic diabetic foot can be treated with multiple revascularization methods like synthetic conduits, endarterectomy, balloon angioplasty, arteriovenous reversal, muscle flap transfer or atherectomy. These procedures eliminate the need for limb amputation. The aim of a revascularization procedure is to fix up the blood vessels that were blocked by bypassing the affected blood vessel so that blood can normally flow to your feet.

Along with revascularization, your doctor will recommend exercises like walking to increase supply of blood to the feet as well as medicines that will deal with the pain and swelling.

Diabetic foot can be a serious health threat that could lead to the limb being amputated. But with revascularization, you can get back on your feet in no time and resume your daily activities

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Diabetes mellitus is a hormone (insulin) deficiency disorder, plus there may be resistance to its action due to excess internal body fat and high blood glucose levels. In such a situation right treatment is to use specific drugs that stimulate Beta cells of pancreas to produce necessary insulin and also to reduce insulin resistance, reduce glucose conversion and absorption, all these actions are observed in modern medicines. In ayurvedic drugs, even though a lot of claims are made, there is no clinically proven evidence to support those claims. Still if you want to use those drugs, instead of present treatment, then choice is yours. You may try that. As regards yogasanas, all asanasa are helpfula s an exercise. However, some say Manduk asana helps beter. Again without any confirmed proof. Still if you want to shift to ayurvedic drugs, please consult an ayurvedic expert. All the best. Thanks.

Since diabetes is detected at a very early age it is essential to find out whether he is a type 1 or type 2 diabetic. Fir this certain blood tests are required.---GAD antibodies, Insulin antibodies and Islet cell antibodies. 431 BS levels are high. Do check HBA1C, lipid profile, and blood pressure, and urine microalbuminuria also as diabetes is known to be associated with high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
