If your blood sugar reports are within normal limits and HbA1c is normal Banana which is not excessively ripe or sweet can be taken at relatively empty stomach like 11 Am or 5 pm and not immediately after meals.

wat you have is impaired glucose tolerance. if you control your diet by avoiding sugary items, canned foods, excess salt in diet you can maintain balanced blood sugar levels. You need to cut down on carbohydrates, include soups, sprouts, oats, dryfruits and high fibre diet. Go for regular walk, start exercises, yoga, meditation, drink 2-3 litres water per day. Check your blood sugar levels regularly to keep a watch.

Dear Lybrateuser, - You should first try to control your blood sugar level by lifestyle changes - have more of fibre containing foods like fruits & vegetables, legumes including pulses, lentils, beans, sprouts, low fat proteins, lean meats - avoid fried, processed & junk foods, also sweets, salty snacks, alcohol & tobacco if you do so - have 5-6 small meals including snacks rather than three large meals, chew your food well, do nit skip meals, have meals on time - reduce your weight by diet & exercise, sugar level will come down - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming for one hour, also include moderate weight lifting twice a day, do yoga & deep breathing for 5-10 min daily morning to keep fit - monitor sugar & can consult a dietician for proper diet - follow the lifestyle measures for 3-4 months & if no decrease then consult a doctor.

Nutrients that can help to support a healthy conception include:

  • Antioxidants “ protect cells from damage by free radicals in environmental and other toxins
  • Coenzyme (Q10) “ an important antioxidant and ˜energy nutrient within every cell
  • Vitamin E “ an antioxidant that may promote circulation to the reproductive system, including to the placenta
  • Vitamin C “ an antioxidant important within the ovary itself. As the developing egg needs vitamin C to mature and ovulate, more vitamin C is used up around the time of ovulation
  • Mixed carotenoids “ Vitamin A (retinoid) is involved in creating DNA. In small amounts it is essential for healthy foetal development, particularly for the immune system and eyes. However, you should avoid taking too much Vitamin A
  • Manganese “ involved in enzyme functions that have antioxidant effects and transfer genetic information
  • Zinc “ one of the most important nutrients for a healthy reproductive system. Involved in sexual development, ovulation and the menstrual cycle
  • Selenium “ an antioxidant that supports normal conception
  • Omega-3 fatty acids “ improving omega-3 fatty acids ensures that a woman’s fat tissue stores retain a reserve of these fatty acids for the developing foetus, a healthy pregnancy and optimally fed newborn
  • B-Vitamins “ Vitamin B12, B6 and folate are three B vitamins significant for the reproductive system

I have been suffering sugar since 5 years then suggest me best medicine for sugar.
No details of present medications, test reports etc. You must reduce your weight to about 64 Kg. It is not the best medicine but most appropriate and effective medicine is selected by your treating doctor taking into consideration your sugar levels, average sugar levels, HbA1c, weight and other parameters. Regular follow up, monitoring and review is a must.

I am in a dilemma!
Mr. S lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The product mentioned has a good amount of carbs and proteins. It might help in building muscle mass provided you do regular exercise for over 1 hour plus. Just taking a supplement is not going to add muscle mass. If you are only looking at good protein supplements then eggs 2 to 3 a day are the best. Along with good exercise schedule one can build a good muscle mass. Thanks.

Sir I am a diabetes patient please tell me how am I recovered/control without medicine.

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science

Sir I am a diabetes patient please tell me how am I recovered/control without medicine.
Hye, Thanks for the query. Firstly medication is needed initially to manage the high sugar levels. Then start by following healthy lifestyle and you can slowly reduce medication. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - The sugar levels will fluctuate depending on what you ate or did not eat, stress levels and activity levels. You have to try and manage a balanced carb intake. Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Your diet must include whole grains, seasonal fruits, vegetables, small amounts of nuts and dairy and pulses or dals or lean meats like chicken or fish and egg. Starchy vegetables need to be planned into the diet. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Avoid exercise if sugar levels are above 250 mg/dl. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

Diabetes and its Ayurvedic Management

Diabetes and its Ayurvedic Management

Diabetes is an abnormal condition where the sugar-levels in humans are higher than usual. Ayurveda can be used efficiently in treating this condition. In Ayurvedic terms, Madhumeha is the allopathic treatment of diabetes. In Indian terms, diabetes is known to the common man as Prameha, which is said to be divided into 3 major types – Kapha, Pitta and Vata. Lack of exercise and intake of food having excess of snigdha, ushna and guru types are said to be the chief cause of prameha.

Along with drugs and medications, Ayurveda stresses on the importance of a balanced diet and exercise. The management modules that can be categorized are:

  1. Vyaayam (Exercise)
  2. Panchakarma (Procedures for Bio-purification)
  3. Pathya (Regulation in diet)
  4. The use of therapy (Medications)

The individual’s constitution highly affects the ayurvedic treatment of prameha. Some of them are:

  1. Obstruction in srothus
  2. Ahara and Vihara
  3. Dosha predominance of disease
  4. Hereditary factors
  5. The prakrithi of the patient
  6. Manasika Prakrithi
  7. Dooshya vitiation

Management of diabetes can be done using a variety of herbs. Some of them are:

  1. Vjaysar
  2. Eugenia jambolana (Jamun beej churna)
  3. Pterocarpus marsupium (Vijaysar churna)
  4. Ficus bengalensis (Nyagrodha twaka churna - banyan tree bark)
  5. Shilajeet
  6. Momordica chirantia Karvellaka (Karella – Bitter Gourd)
  7. Kirat tikata (Chirayata)
  8. Embelica officinalis (Amla)

It is possible that certain patients are unable to respond to insulin or hypoglemic medicines. In this case, an ayurvedic physician may prescribe some ayurvedic drugs such as:

  1. Dhatri Nisha
  2. Chandraprabha vati
  3. Vasant kusumakar rasa

Diabetes is not just a lack of insulin. It is most probable cause is plain poor maintenance of your body. It 's cure will need to include all of these things discussed. By doing all, diet, herbs, exercise and stress management, you can certainly take care of your Diabetes.

As an ancient science based on lifestyle related treatment methods that include herbs, massages and life changing tweaks, Ayurveda also provides various methods of managing this ailment. Here's how!

  1. Bitter Gourd: Known as an ingredient that is rich in antioxidants, this can be consumed to take care of diabetes. You will need to first remove the peel of at least four to five bitter gourds before crushing them to create a paste. This paste has to be put through a sieve so that the juice of the gourds can be extracted. You will then have to drink this juice every morning, on an empty stomach.
  2. Cinnamon: From treating coughs and colds to diabetes and other serious ailments, this is a wonder spice that can be found in most Indian kitchens. You can start by boiling a litre of water and letting it simmer on the gas for about twenty minutes. Thereafter, you can add three teaspoons of cinnamon powder to this simmering water. Strain this mixture and drink the entire batch every day to clear out the toxins.
  3. Fenugreek Seeds: For this, you will need to take about four to five tablespoons of fenugreek seeds. These will have to be soaked in a glass of water or about 250ml of water, overnight. In the morning, the softened seeds will need to be crushed before the mixture is strained. The water that escapes should be collected and ingested every day for a period of two months.
  4. Turmeric: Turmeric is a powerful and well-known ingredient that is used for curing and managing many ailments. You will need to mix about half a teaspoon of turmeric powder with one teaspoon of amla powder as well as half a tablespoon of methi seeds or fenugreek seeds powder. This concoction will have to mixed in half a glass of water and taken daily on an empty stomach. This can be used by patients suffering from heart ailments as well.
  5. Diet: Cereals like ragi, corn, kulit, green millet, and barley are known to beneficial for patients suffering from diabetes. Leafy greens are also a must for such patients along with protein-rich foods like soya beans.

Periodical testing of Blood Sugar Fasting , 2 hrs after principal meal and before dinner is necessary. HbA1c now will also help. Avoiding of free sugar, like sugar, jaggery, honey and sweet fruits for about a fortnight maintaining standard Body weight and then consulting a Diabetologist will establish possibility of Gestational Diabetes for which you need an expert advice.
