You have not mentioned your age but if you are young, then there may be a need to meet with a counselor along with your parents to determine any contributing factors from childhood. First of all, the intensity of stress is in the perception. Change your perception, there is no stress: it’s like looking at a glass half full or half empty. Apart from that, all your emotions need to be dealt with by expression i.e. You need to talk about the feelings. Then you need to exercise regularly, eat fiber foods (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), sleep at least 8 hours every day, learn Yoga and meditation, learn stress management, and do a personality development course. Because you are into studies, follow a tight schedule, with good breaks and study habits. If group study helps you, do it with the right people. If tutoring is required, arrange for the same. These should see you through successfully without the stress. The headache is related to your anger and needs some expressions to deal with it.

How To Get Better Sleep?

Sleep is the best reliever of all stress and physical pain. Not only is it important to get sleep, but also to sleep soundly and without any disturbance. The quality matters. Here are a few tips to get better sleep: 

  1. It is important to maintain the same sleep schedule every single day. This helps to naturalize your body clock and get the best quality sleep. 
  2. Switch off all mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices. Their artificial glow not only hampers your eyesight, but also prolongs the amount of time your body takes to relax and fall off to sleep. 
  3. If your back pain causes you to continually wake up in the middle of the night in discomfort, then sleep with a pillow or cushion between your legs so as to straighten out your back and relieve pent up stress. 
  4. The importance of your pillow can never be stressed upon enough. Your pillow should be not too fat, hard or soft. It should just about support the natural curve of your neck, so that it is perfectly aligned with the centre of your body. Correct sleeping postures are extremely important. 
  5. Make sure your room is nice and dark so as to stimulate the secretion of a hormone called melatonin that is regulated by light exposure. Darker the room, greater melatonin, making you more sleepy. 
  6. Those who exercise regularly and well are known to be fitful sleepers. Exercise well before bedtime. If required, do some light yoga or stretching exercises that promote sleep. 
  7. What you eat throughout the day makes a difference to the quality of your sleep. Stay away from too much caffeine, alcohol, or a heavy meal just before sleeping. They only make you stay awake for longer and may cause heartburn or stomach trouble. Don't drink too much water, or else you will be making more midnight trips to the bathroom than clocking those sleep hours. 
  8. Try to keep your head clear of all worries and stress when in bed. Regular meditation and deep breathing can help. 

There is no end to all the things you can do to sleep well and comfortably. It is important to be self-disciplined to sleep well and hence be a healthy individual.

Hello doctor. I have a question regarding my mom. She was diagnosed with osteoporosis before a year. She has disc in back and neck also. Now she has pain in right shoulder and can not move her arm properly nor can do any heavy work with this arm. She faces problem during sleep also. Hello Lybrate user, sir the disk of neck might cause nerve compression which leads to improper nerve supply to the shoulder joint because of which the muscles of arm started getting less nutrition supply and started getting weak. Shoulder PAIN 1.Hot Fermentation over the painful shoulder for 10-15 min. You should start exercising every day so that the bones and the muscle are in good condition. Go for a brisk walk everyday for 20 mins. Make it twice a day later. You can also do Yoga (pranayam and meditation included) to keep your body fit and maintain the energy levels. At the same time beware of the the food that you take. Try to eat only healthy food. Choose natural products over processed​ food, cold drinks etc. Maintain good hydration by drinking 8-10 glasses of water. While acute cartilage damage may heal on its own, severe damage may need treatment via surgical measures.

Treatment

Physiotherapy

Surgery

  • In some cases, larger incisions have to be made.

The most common surgeries that are undertaken in cases of cartilage damage include the following:

Lavage and debridement

  • In this form of surgery, your joint is cleaned for the removal of any loose tissues.
  • The damaged edges are trimmed to be made smooth. Sometimes, the damage may also be repaired during the same time.

Marrow stimulation

  • In this procedure, tiny holes are made on the bone beneath your damaged cartilage that releases the bone marrow in it.
  • The marrow cells stimulate the production of new cartilage.

Mosaicplasty

  • In this procedure, small plugs of healthy cartilage from areas of a joint that are non-weight bearing are removed and used for replacing areas of the affected cartilage.

Osteotomy

  • This procedure involves the alteration of the alignment of your leg for reducing pressure on the damaged area.
  • It is effective in improving pain.
  • A wedge of bone may be removed or added from your thigh bone or shin bone.
  • The bone gets fixed with a plate till it gets healed.

In some cases, a joint replacement surgery has to be carried out. In this procedure, the entire affected joint is removed and replaced with an artificial joint. Hip replacement and knee replacement are common examples of this kind of surgery.

I am a employee of armed forces. My problem is that after rest for 2/3 hours sitting or sleeping when I tried to walk the lower surface of my ankle feel acute pain for 15/20 steps .after that I felt normal .suggest me for permanent remedy.

1.Apply ice twice a day 2.Use silicon heel pad, 3.Do not walk bare feet 4.Do towel stretch of feet – a.Sit with your legs extended and knees straight. B.Place a towel around your foot just under the toes. C.Hold each end of the towel in each hand, with your hands above your knees. D.Pull back with the towel so that your foot stretches toward you. E.Hold the position for at least 15 to 30 seconds. Do for 10 times morning and evening report after 15 days.

My right hand got swollen and is painful when I carry heavy things or I write anything. Passed 8 days is very painful at night yesterday I had gone to physiotherapists but did not gave exact answer for it. Today I had gone my family physician he told it's a golfers elbow and suggested me injections for it. Can you explain what it is and exact treatment for it. Normally exercise I do. You may have anemia or hypothyroidism ans the cause for excess sleepiness and need to test blood and treat if these are present.

Please change your lifestyle and diet Blood pressure and high cholesterol are lifestyle diseases which can be completely reversed without medicines. I am 42 years female. I am feeling very tired always. I feel my bp is falling but when measured it finds normal. I always trying to lie in the bed. I hurried do all tasks and go to bed. I always feel fatigued and giddy. Please avoid standing for long or with legs hanging down. When you go to bed, place pillows underneath your legs. It will give relief. You can do all exercises without any worry. If still symptoms persist, consult vascular specialist.

Cartilage Damage - How They Can Be Treated?

Along with bones, the human structure is also supported by cartilage. Cartilage is a tough, flexible tissue that acts as a cushion between bones at joints. Some parts of the body such as the outer structure of the ear is completely made up of cartilage. Damage to the cartilage can cause pain. inflammation and in some cases even a degree of disability. Since cartilage does not have a blood supply, cartilage damage takes longer to heal than other injuries.

There are three main causes of cartilage damage

  1. Direct impact: Cartilage can get damaged by heavy impact during a bad fall or an accident. For this reason, sportspersons have a high risk of suffering from cartilage damage.
  2. Wear and tear: Over time, joint experiences wear and tear that can damage cartilage. The knees are often most affected by this. Obese people are at a higher risk of knee cartilage injury than others because of the additional pressure being out on the knees.

  2. Marrow stimulation: By drilling small holes under the damaged cartilage, the surgeon exposes blood vessels that lie inside the bone and trigger the formation of a blood clot. This, in turn, triggers the development of new cartilage.
