You are correct engaging in an activity that you love and enjoy is the best way to fight depression, as this is the time when your brain in releasing chemical that helps counter feeling low. Perhaps so far you have managed your depression by being active and I would suggest you to continue doing the same. Also, if you are not engaged in daily walking or other form of physical exercise please start involving yourself in one of the activities you enjoy. Socializing and meeting friends and talking and laughing is another way of stress buster. Antidepressant do have addictive effect and you need to continue increasing the dose to maintain its effect. If you continue engaging in above mentioned activity. That will help you maintain at least positive ratio of positive and negative emotions and thoughts. Let me know if I can help you in any other way, wishing you very best,

Dear, rising heart beat is not due to your blood pressure, but because of anxiety. Who advised you to take blood pressure medicine? Absurd. You are anxious and mostly depressed and therefore you loose your sleep. Please consult a psychiatrist.

Stress and Anxiety - Treat It With Homeopathy!

MBBS, MD (PSM), M.F.Hom (London)
Homeopath, Nagpur
Stress and Anxiety - Treat It With Homeopathy!

The words 'stress' and 'anxiety' are often used interchangeably, but bear different meanings in medical terms. Stress is caused by particular situations or events in one's life that makes one feel frustrated, angry, worried or even anxious. The stress response is different for each individual such that the same event can often elicit disparate responses. For example:

Public speaking excites some but terrifies others;

  1. Pressure from deadlines increases productivity in some but renders others paralyzed;

  2. Difficult circumstances in family or friend settings find some eager to take control and others stricken with panic;

  3. Social situations requiring people to voice their opinions are easy and comfortable for some but stressful for others;

  4. Changes in the work environment are welcomed by some but not by others.

Anxiety, on the other hand, is a general feeling of apprehension or fear, the source of which is not clearly defined. Anxiety disorders are a group of psychiatric conditions that cause excessive anxiety. They include:

  1. Generalized Anxiety: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a pattern of frequent, constant worry and anxiety over many different activities and events;

  2. Specific Phobia: A phobia is a persistent and irrational fear of a particular type of object, animal, activity, or situation that poses little to no actual danger;

  3. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviours that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions). Often the person carries out the behaviours to get rid of the obsessive thoughts, but this only provides temporary relief (not performing the obsessive rituals can cause great anxiety);

  4. Social Phobia: Social Phobia is a persistent and irrational fear of situations that may involve scrutiny or judgment by others, such as parties and other social events.

Those suffering from anxiety disorders display such symptoms on a regular basis and thus have difficulty with daily activities and relationships. These symptoms present themselves sporadically and often without warning.

In many cases, anxiety is developed by overdue stress that is no longer linked to a specific cause.

Homeopathic Treatment for Stress and Anxiety:

Homeopaths for the last two centuries have been constantly pushing this theory of mind and physical body being deeply interconnected and about fixing the problem at a mental level that can often help the other. In homeopathy, mental symptoms of the patient are given the utmost importance. Constitutional treatment in homeopathy combines the understanding of both the psycho and the physiological profile of the patient, with the psychological profile being given more importance.

Homeopathic Medicines for Stress:

A number of homeopathic medicines are effective in treating disorders where one who has learnt the wrong way of handling or responding to stress.

  1. Homeopathic remedies for stress - for the Classic - Type A Personality: Medicines such as Argentum Nitricum and Tarentula are very effective in controlling the accelerated behaviour of Type A people. Anxiety is very marked in such patients . Anxiety disorder is very effectively treated with homeopathy

  2. Homeopathic remedies for stress: When Anger is the Key symptom: Stress manifests through anger in some patients .Nux Vomica and Staphysgaria are meant for the easily angered and impatient ones.

  3. Homeopathic Medicines for stress: When grief is the cause: Ignatia and Natrum Mur where long-standing grief is a reason for stress response.

Homeopathic remedies for stress: for those who are 'Overworked': Kali phos is for a good individual who over-stretches himself physically and mentally. It is great homeopathic remedy for those have 'burnt out' their minds for over work. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a homeopath and ask a free question.

Hello your problems seem more like conflict in relationship resulting in making you unsettled. I wouldn't label you as depression. Besides if you are not happy and comfortable in a relationship why remain in it? the fear of losing a romantic partner makes young people put up with unpleasant things and finally instead of gaining security and confidence you lose your self esteem. I guess this is what is happening to you. Analyse your situation and make your expectations clear in the romantic relationship.

I am alcoholic. Drink 3 peg daily. I have pain n my whole belly n back. In ultrasound doctor told me that liver z enlarge. So PLZZ sugest me da best medicine.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Enlarged live is a bad sign of excessive drinking. You need to stop immediately. It does not matter when you feel like drinking, as long as you need your drink. This could lead to increased tolerance levels so that over time you will need to drink more to get the same or greater effect. You need to identify why you need to drink, and go back into your childhood to find out other influences on your personality that makes you prone to addiction. Meet with an addiction counselor and work with them to sort out this drive. Your already display the classic tendency to first obsess about it and then compulsively feel driven to meet that need. The simplest thing to do is to do some other interesting activity during the evening times. Meet your oral need with some other non-intoxicating drink like soups, juices, and sodas with lime, etc. If you think that you will find it very difficult, then admit yourself to a hospital and go for de-addiction: which normally lasts for about two weeks. Then follow that up with addiction counseling from a professional for at least three years to completely get rid of the habit. If this is also not enough, then admit yourself into a de-addiction center and stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving. Ultimately, it is your will power and the support that you receive from the medical fraternity and your close and dear ones. You must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i.e. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide you on several measures and precautions you will need to take to stay with your resolve. Even after the rehabilitation you must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. Your family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. You cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to your drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. Make a serious plan with the family and whoever else’s support you can get and act on it fast. As a combination these two therapies (counseling and rehabilitation) will aid in dealing with the addiction. It will however take a long time to completely come off of the enslavement.

EFFECT OF NEGATIVE RELATIONSHIPS

SLE, Fellowship In Diabetology, Diploma In Psychology Mental Health And Illness, PLAB (MANCHESTOR, UK), FAGE, MBBS
General Physician, Bangalore

We all come across relationships where a lot of negativity is thrust upon us be it from parents, siblings, friends, relatives or at work. What effect does this negativity have on our mind and what changes it can bring in us are described below

Loss of confidence- confidence is key to the successful planning and implementation of any idea. If people around you try to break your confidence to believe and implement in your ideas you are very unlikely to do anything with it.

Lack of self esteem- Self esteem is the mirror image of what we hold in our mind. If we don’t see a good image we are unlikely to like it and do anything with it.

Identity crisis- When we are unable to maintain a definition about us due to constant criticism and nagging we will become unsure of who we really are and what we really are capable of doing. This also effects our ability to project what we really feel and think to the outside world.

Low mood/depression- Feelings of guilt and worthlessness can easily develop once we aren’t able to win the approval and acclaim of people around us. This can make us sink very fast without leaving a trace of what our baseline was.
Impaired problem solving abilities-People who constantly are unsure of what they should be doing due to nagging In changing situations will loose the ability to deliver quick results when they are presented with a new situation.
Impaired concentration-Due to inability to depend on themselves to work out any problem people will develop inability to assimilate and process any kind of information and hence will develop problems of concentration as they are wary to pick up any new task due to fear of mistakes or failure.

Lack of foresight- As they get surrounded by feeling of inadequacy within themselves they start loosing ability to process information to deduce inference and their implications over consequences and hence slowly start loosing insight over what their actions might bring. This makes them incapable of doing actions which lead to what they find as desirable results because they are too busy seeking approval from who is nagging them.

Impaired/inappropraite communication – Due to lack of a coherent and independent functioning practice such people are often unsure of what they are speaking and tend of focus only on seeking immediate approval of who they are communicating with and even in that communication they are not accurate as they are worried they may face nagging due to what they may say. Example is stammering in people is somewhat due to same reasons partly.

Personality problems- Such people may often come across as people with borderline personality disorders as they are so weak so sustain a constant personality because they are scared they have to depend on the approval of several conflicting minds none of whom may be erroneous on their own but dependence on all of them may create a clutter of impossible unified solution.

Effect of negative feedback – This whole situation may worsen when the person does not get good results from what he is doing as inspite of his efforts he is not able to get approval of so many differing nagging fractions who he is dependant on. A good feedback and results is an immense booster to the victims efforts in developing his own image and personality.

Impaired social behavior and conduct- Due to such constant inability to please so many different sources and winning their approvals such people develop immense self doubt and tend to perform poorly and avoid social interactions.

Wavering minds-Due to constant criticism and nagging such people very soon develop inability of believe and maintain in what their decisions are and hence come across as people who don’t maintain their thoughts. Sometimes this can lead to a development wherin they just see everything as a task and go about doing them in a goal oriented pursuit without any emotional indulgence or attachment.

Depersonalization/dissociative disorders- In such environment people develop this condition. Symptoms can be classified as either depersonalization or derealization. Depersonalization is described as feeling disconnected or estranged from one's body, thoughts, or emotions. Individuals experiencing depersonalization may report feeling as if they are in a dream or are watching themselves in a movie. They may feel like an outside observer of their own thoughts or body, and often report feeling a loss of control over their thoughts or actions. In some cases, individuals may be unable to accept their reflection as their own, or they may have out of body experiences. While depersonalization is a sense of detachment from one's self, derealization is described as detachment from one's surroundings. Individuals experiencing derealization may report perceiving the world around them as foggy, dreamlike/surreal, or visually distorted.

Inability to develop intimacy, develop new relationships and maintain relationships- As they depend on many contrasting sources for approvals they develop serious self doubt and loose the ability to develop and maintain intimacy in relationships. They often tend to avoid new relationships due to previous experiences of negative outlash.

Therefore every person, be it a growing child or a new employee, a new partner, or a new friend or a new job is like a new seed we plant. The more good positive support t we provide the plant better the fruit we will get. I would not be too far from truth if I say that our minds and personality is hugely dependant and shaped by people around us who are largely responsible for what we turn out to be.

Dear lybrate-user. Welcome to lybrate. I can understand. Loosing someone near and dear is called grief and depression related to grief is pretty normal. I haven't been able to sleep since 4 days and I am having a severe headache, tried multiple home remedies, but didn't...
Smoking can stimulate you and raise your BP immediately: it is best you give it up. But this sudden development may have something to do with stress related to something you are angry about. If you know what that is you can deal with it but if you don't then meet with a counselor and sort that out for instant relief. In the meantime kindly implement some of these suggestions: In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i. E. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray, last thing at night before you sleep.
