Dear Your mother has fissure which is due to constipation and passage of hard faeces, Suggest: 1.Give emollient laxative like Duohaklax or cremaffin plus at night. 2.Give naturolax granules one sachet with a glass full of water at night or Isabgol powder 3-4 tsf in glass full of water at night. 3.Apple Zinc ointment inside and twice a day. This is a castor oil based ointment like a nappy rash cream. 4. Increase fluid intake 5.Five high fibre diet in form of green leafy vegetable, fruits like papaya, banana , mango etc. 6.If she can do some exercise in the bed 7. If she is still constipated then use suppository for toilet 8 If that doesn't work then use enema which are available in market regularly. Dr. Kiran Mehta.

Does Celiac Disease Reduce Fertility?

MRCOG, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Does Celiac Disease Reduce Fertility?

Celiac disease is a condition in which the small intestine becomes sensitive and reactive to gluten, leading to difficulty in digesting food. Gluten is a kind of a protein found in wheat or barley. In reality, if either of the partners is suffering from celiac disease then you are prone to fertility related issues.

Impact of Celiac disease

As compared to men, this disease is more common among women in general. Women suffering from the disease are generally more prone to infertility and other genealogical problems like preterm births and miscarriages. In the case of men, the disease causes the infertility problems including sperm abnormalities such as low count, abnormal shape, reduced function and such others. Additionally, men with the untreated celiac disease might also have reduced levels to testosterone.

Infertility and Celiac disease

Infertility is one of the lesser known effects of the celiac disease, which is relatively uncommon amongst people. The disease causes infertility by affecting the menstrual cycle among women either in a direct or indirect manner. Some of the infertility related problems caused due the disease are listed below.

  • Delayed occurrence of menstruation
  • Early menopause
  • Secondary amenorrhea (a medical condition associated with sudden cessation of menstruation for 6 months or more)
  • Hormonal disruptions and abnormal changes

Diagnosis

Celiac disease is usually diagnosed by its own set of underlying symptoms such as chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), iron-deficiency anemia, and such others. Additionally, the condition can be diagnosed if a person is having repeated miscarriages or inability to conceive for unidentified causes.

What can you do about it?

If you experience symptoms of Celiac disease, consult your doctor at the earliest and follow the treatments and preventative measures suggested. Additionally, you can also consult a dietician who will help you to move on to a low grain or no grain diet that would help you further to avoid the disease.

I am a 28 year old b. Pharm holder from kerala. Can I control chronic irritable bowel syndrome by psychotherapy. I have this disease for more than 10 yrs with many other somatic and psychiatric disorders. I have chronic skin water allergy (itching after bath and after sweating). According to my psychiatrist diagnosis I have avoidant personality disorder and depression and he believes my ibs, skin allergy, insomnia and other physical symptoms are secondary outcome of it. I am currently using desvenlafaxine 50mg morning around 1year opiprol 50mg night around 2yrs opiprol 100mg morning around 2yrs lonazep 0.5mg night around 2 years. I am treating my diseases for more than 10 yrs and does not any improvement in ibs. Recently my recently consulted psychologist tolled me that ibs can be controlled by long term psychotherapy.

M.Phil clinical Psychology, MS Psychotherapy and Counseling, PGDGC, MSc Psychology
Psychologist, Chennai
Ibs is an anxiety based psychosomatic disorder. If you are able to keep your anxiety and stress within control, you can witness a great relief to your ibs problem. Medicines do help you to control the effect of your problems and also help you to maintain your functional abilities to some extent. But if you want real relief your should attack the core cause of your illnesses which can be due personality factors, thinking patterns, habitual mal-adaptive behavior, irrational belief systems or even the stress associated with unconscious mind. Treatment for all these conditions is available only my doing appropriate psychological evaluation and using customized psychotherapy. So consult a clinical psychologist in your vicinity, systematically adhere to the treatment process and you will see the real positive change in you. All the best.

Do sitz bath. That is-- take warm water in the tub and sit in it for 10 min in the morning after passing stools and once in night. If you have constipation take some mild laxative. This should solve the problem otherwise show to a surgeon.

Your problems are not related to the menses stopping (menopause) but it is related to" what you eat" perhaps your digestion system has been affected. You must seek an advice from a gastroenterologist or a gen surgeon who can help you. Acidity occurs due to excess gastric acid. Either it can be secreted more due to hurry, stress, worry and spicy food intake or it can be due to erratic food habits which prevent neutralisation of the acid produced. E prolonged starving between meals, starvation, etc it would be best to space out your meal into 5-6 meals per day, rather than just having lunch and dinner. So eat small amounts every 2 hourly. This will help neutralise the acid produced and prevent a build up avoid excess consumption of tea / coffee.(not more than 2 / day) eat high fiber foods like carrot, radish, beet, cucumber, watermelon, oranges, sweet lime etc. This prevents gas formation and helps smooth motion eat fresh curds (dahi) 1 small bowlful, every day. Drink 2-3 liters of water per day. All this will help you. In addition you must take medicines to reduce acidity as prescribed.
