Hello! the 1st thing you need to take care of is good quality protein. Try to take milk n products, egg whites, fish, lean chicken, dal n products etc. With complex carbohydrate n good quality fat (almond, walnut, peanut, flex seed, chia seed etc.) stay away from preserved food, ready to eat foods, deep fried food, excess sugar n sweet items.

I am a 27 yr old male, weight 82kgs and height 172 cms. I am having severe knee pain while playing cricket or make a long walk (usually its very rare to make a long walk). So what should I do?

Diploma in Acupuncture, Pranic Healing, MD - Acupuncture
Acupuncturist, Bangalore
Reduction of your weight will certainly help you in reduction of pain. Avoid junk food, sweets, aerated drinks, maida based dishes. Eat more of fresh salads (munch slowly) fruits and reduce in take of rice. Acupressure and acupuncture are powerful therapies which gives relief from especially joint pains, back pains and lot of other ailments. I am suggesting you a method by which you can get instant relief and continue to do it. However you consult me privately to get permanent solution. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Also take calcium tablets shelcal 500 mg for a limited period 2 months consult after 5 days

I had an anteriro cruciate ligament tear in my right knee a couple of months back.I was wearing a brace during those two months. I do not feel any pain know in the ACT areas but other muscle areas around the knee feel stiff. Slight pain still persists while i climb the stairs. Is physiotherapy advisable now ?

Hello, If you have a complete ACL tear i advise you get it reconstructed Arthroscopically as it renders knee biomechanically unstable. Also exercises need to be continued but upload your MRI Knee so that i can advise you.

I am loosing my weight. I tried many proteins, weight gainers, etc. But It doesn't work. Can You help me with this?
To gain weight you should eat more calories than you burn. Plus not only you have to eat calorie dense food but you have to keep in mind that what you are eating is healthy too. In the process of weight gain you do not want to put weight in an uneven manner and look unhealthy rather than looking bright and healthy. 1. Start with changing your lifestly. Start working out if you are not active. The biggest myth that prevails now a days is that thin people do not need to work out. This is wrong. When you challenge your body, it is forced to grow. But this growth can only be possible if you are eating enough food to let the body absorb and grow in size and muscles. 2. Eat Healthy – Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food, pepsi, sugary stuff etc. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 3 hours. This means you have to eat 6 small meals in a day. Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. b. Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. c. If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. d. Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. e. Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. f. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. g. You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain. Try to be patient while you are on the process of weight gain. Results take time to show. Just follow the regimen of weight gain religiously and you will soon start seeing the results.

Thanks for the query. It is important to know that just eating two heavy meals a day will not fulfill your nutrient needs. Most often we skip meals especially when at work. We start our day on empty stomach but our work or stress or activity is never reduced. This causes weakness and lack of energy levels. Food is our source of energy and if you don't eat well as per your needs you are going to get deficient in many nutrients. So, start by eating the right foods at the right time. Eat meals at frequent intervals. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Eat a good breakfast. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits in your mid meals or late nights. Avoid a very heavy dinner. Try to take an early dinner. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. Sleep well without disturbance in the morning.

General Physician,
Hello, Thanks for your query on Lybrate "As" per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this - 1) Do a clinical examination by your family Doctor and do CBC with differential to confirm exact cause. 2) Discuss with your Doctor about iron sucrose and vitamin B 12 injection in every weekly. Do follow few preventive steps like this - 1) Do take Iron-rich foods include which includes meats, beans, lentils, iron-fortified cereals, dark green leafy vegetables, and dried fruit. 2) Do take folic acid, which can be found in citrus fruits and juices, bananas, dark green leafy vegetables, legumes, and fortified breads, cereals and pasta. 3) Take vitamin B-12. And this vitamin is found naturally in meat and dairy products. It's also added to some cereals and soy products, such as soy milk. 4) Take foods containing vitamin C such as citrus fruits, melons and berries that help increase iron absorption. For indigestion follow like this - 1) Try to eat smaller, more frequent meals. Chew your food slowly and thoroughly. 2) Try to avoid triggers like Fatty and spicy foods, processed foods, carbonated beverages, caffeine, alcohol and smoking etc 3) Try to maintain a healthy weight. And do exercise regularly. Exercise helps you keep off extra weight and promotes better digestion. 4) Try to manage stress. Create a calm environment at mealtime. Practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation or yoga. Spend time doing things you enjoy. Get plenty of sleep. 5) Try to change your medications. With your doctor's approval, stop or cut back on pain relievers or other medications that may irritate your stomach lining. If that's not an option, be sure to take these medications with food. 6) To get good digestion you can take OTC digestive enzyme like ABHIZYME PLUS syrup 10 ml after meal Hope that helps.

You have to be patient and give your body time to gain a healthy body weight. It is very possible that you are not eating the right foods at the right time. Also just eating two or three very heavy meals is not going to help much. You have to balance out your intake to manage stamina and energy levels. Eat meals at frequent intervals. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, sprouts, fruits in your meals. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. Even if you were to take medicines or supplements. They will not work in isolation. You have to have a calorie and nutrient dense meal.
