If it is of recent origin then take rest, massage the area and take any pain killer after meal. If it is chronic then check your self to the nearby doctor.

I am 28 years old male. My left knee MRI report says There is large expensive eccentric mass lesion is seen involving left femoral condyle with thinning of cortex with multiple break in continuity. The lesion shows heterogeneous high signal with low to intermediate signal intensity. On T1images the lesion shows low to intermediate signal intensity with lower signal on peripherally. There is perilesional bone marrow edema at proximal to lesion. There is no fluid-fluid level is seen. There is patchy altered signal intensity seen in posterior particular soft tissue. There is no articular extension is noted. There is significant joint effusion is noted with fluid fluid level with heterogeneous signal-S/o hemarthrosis. The study shows normal appearance & signal intensity of both collateral ligaments, PCL,medical & lateral meniscus. Patellar & quadriceps tendon appears as normal signal void structure. Patella with its lateral, medical retinaculae & tendon appear to be remarkable. Upper end of tibia & fibula shows normal appearance & signal intensity.

This is a general strain due to excessive walking or standing and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes. One time you can do hot water fermentation that would help to reduce the muscle strain arthritic Pain:Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Simple Knee Exercises would help to strengthen the quadriceps muscle which is the key muscle. Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping a soft ball underneath the knee and you have to keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone.

Hi Ms. lybrate-user Back pain can due to many causes. Thats why thorough investigation is required. Apart from these tests, undergo an Xray LS spine- AP and lateral view also. Further management of pain can be decided after reports of these tests. Till then, you will have to manage your pain by painkillers and moov/ volini gel.

My brother has cervical spondolysis problem and has feeling of numbness in hand and a bit of swelling on back side.

My brother has cervical spondolysis problem and has feeling of numbness in hand and a bit of swelling on back side.
Hi. Sleeping on your back without a pillow to encourage the natural curves along the spine to align properly. Also sleeping on your side with a pillow that is the size of the gap between your shoulder and head to release the strain on the neck. Using too many pillows is not recommended. Regular exercise lubricates the disks of the spine and helps to combat degeneration of the disks. Exercise can help keep your body strong and supple as you age. High-impact exercises such as running should be avoided if you are experiencing any neck pain because the shock of impact can worsen your condition. Light, low-impact exercises such as walking, swimming or aqua aerobics help to support the body. Using a routine of neck stretches and yoga exercises will maintain flexibility and range of motion in the neck and cervical spine. Sit up tall with good posture. Roll the shoulders up and back. Inhale and lift the head up toward the sky. Exhale and drop the head toward the chest. Repeat this movement with your breath 10 to 15 times. Bring the head back to center and drop the right ear toward the right shoulder. Repeat on the left side and continue for 10 to 15 repetitions. Roll the head in circles to the right and then to the left. Drop the right ear toward the right shoulder and press the right hand gently into the left side of the forehead to increase the stretch. Repeat on the other side. Yoga (better do it under supervision and guidance by a qualified yoga-instructor first and do it alone later): Certain yoga postures such as Cobra and Bridge pose help to strengthen and stretch the muscles of the neck. Perform Bridge pose lying on your back with the knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Press the feet into the floor and lift the hips up toward the sky. Clasp the hands underneath the body and straighten the arms. For Cobra pose, start on your stomach. Bring your hands to either side of your chest. Press the hands into the floor and roll the shoulders back. Lift the upper body off of the floor and press the tops of the feet into the floor. Elongate the neck and move the tips of the ears back toward the shoulders.

Hi Dr. you r very good. I feel pain on my left knee. Si please gv some advice and oblize me. Thanking you.
Knee joint is very complex joint made by 3 bones - femur, tibia, fibula and knee cap - patella. Several ligaments, cartilage and menisci are covered all around. So pain in knee joint may be due to several reasons. In your case the pain may be due to some internal injury like cartilage etc for which you are not aware or there may be knee arthritis as it is very common these days or may be due to deficiency of vitamins or uric acid. So in general I would advise you to please go for proper investigation so that the reason can be diagnosed. In the mean time to get relief from pain and stiffness please follow the physio measures: precautions- 1. Avoid prolong standing. Standing on one leg or running for time being if its painful. 2. Take care while bending your knees, it should not directly strain your joint. 3. Avoid heavy weight lifting. 4. Wear shoes with good arch support, do not wear high -healed shoes. 5. Use the correct positions during activities so that you do not strain your muscles. 6. Try to change your sitting position every 15 min so that it should not give strain on your knees. 7. Avoid sitting on floor with both knees bending. 8. Take diet rich in calcium like milk, dairy products, banana etc which will enhance your calcium and gives you strength. Treatment - 1. Use of cold or hot packs which ever suits you - apply ice or hot pack to the painful area and massage for near about 10 minutes. Make a habit for doing atleast twice a day initially. 2. After this using your thumb massage your knee area gently. Exercises include: 1. Quads isometrics. 2. Hamstrings isometrics. 3. Slr - straight leg raising 4. Bridging do not do single leg bridging if pain is very severe. 5. Knee bending lying or supine position. 6. Heel raising 7. Step ups 8. Lunge 9. Squatting you can do the above treatment plan it will give you pain relief. But if you face severe pain while doing the exercises then stop doing and apply some talcum over knee, with thumb massage your knee area slightly and gently. Get well soon. Good luck.

I am 45 years old male and I have a backache from last three months I am unable to do my working also so you are requested to guide me that what should I do?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Back pain has become very common these days because of daily life style and day today activities. It can be due to various reasons any injury, muscle strain eg-sudden twist while lifting object, bad posture, overuse of muscle or any internal disease like spondylitis, infection etc. Many of the problem occurs for which we are not aware. Health problem usually occurs because of living style and bad / incorrect sitting/standing posture. After looking at your pain I am recommending you some precautions and treatment that will be very effective. Precautions: 1. Avoid forward bending, if required then bend your knees first and then bend forward. 2. Avoid weight lifting. 3. Sit in chairs or car seats with proper back support. 4. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back like sidelying. 5. Get enough vitamin d from sun as vitamin d keep bones strong including spine. 6. Drink plenty of water to enhance the inter vertebral disks 7. Avoid standing in the one position for a long time. 8. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back. 9. Avoid stress full activity. When pain is less or no pain make a habit of morning walk atleast for 20 minutes to get fresh air in body which is really beneficial to keep fit and healthy. Meditations is an extra advantage along with walk. Physio care: I would recommend you for i-care treatment that is especially for back or neck pain. Rest required but it doesn't mean a complete bed rest. Do not over exert your body. Work take rest and then work so that you do not feel tired and started paining. Treatment- 1. Apply ice or heat which ever suits you directly to the area of low back pain will decrease swelling and inflammation, and ease your discomfort. Apply it for 10 to 15 minutes only. 2. Relaxing for 5 minutes after ice or heat treatment. Massage - ask someone to massage your painful area using fingers or thumb. Massage using kneading technique. Slightly press the thumb and start rotating as it helps to induce relaxation, relieve pain, and reduce levels of stress chemicals, such as cortisol and noradrenaline. It will give you pain relief for time being. 3. After massage again relax for 5 min and apply any pain relieving ointment eg - volini or oraflame gel etc. Make sure not to do massage with the gel, it should not penetrate the body. Just a topical application of gel should be done. 4. Again relax your body for 5 minutes an7. Consult skin specialist for further advice. D perform some normal back extension and hamstring stretching exercises to get relief from your pain. While performing exercises if pain occurs then would recommend you to stop doing exercise. Massage or slightly rub the painful area and consult your near by physio to diagnose the actual cause of the pain as he/she can guide you proper exercise plan which will be beneficial for you after checking grade of your back pain.

I have a back problem for 9 months which is very hard. Please give me some solution.
It looks like you are anaemic. If you have back pain after you sit for long hours then it is due to your haemoglobin levels as it is important to check that. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. You can also wear mcr chappals which would help you to have less weight falling in the painful back.
