I have severe back pain. And also radiating pain on the leg. I consult a lot of doctor. And take a lot of medicine. N...
It may be low back pain with sciatica. In sciatica pain radiates along the leg. Reasons can be-* *sitting in inconvenient posture constantly, without changing your position or without movement, *wearing ill fitting sandals, *lack of exercise or *internal disorder like arthritis. Point to observe- * if you have difficulty in climbing stairs, take lift while going upstairs. If there is no lift, go up slowly. * if it is due to strain of games or injury, take rest. * if it is due to obesity, reduce weight. * if it is due to constant sitting at a particular posture, change posture and engage in slow walk. * walking regularly at slow pace without unduly straining helps as it improves blood circulation around knee and eases the joint. *you can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain. Eucalyptus oil is also good homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take colocynthis 200---once daily morning and give feedback after 7 days

After removal of cast exercise needs to be done Do ball squeezing activity multiple times a day Keep your hand in warm water adding salt to it twice a day Take a cloth & do table wiping activity If you have door knobs at home then you can do closing & opening activity with door knobs or you can make use of rolling pin (belan), hold one end of belan in your hand & another end must be held by some other person, now do the forearm rotation activity; only forearm should move elbow & shoulder must be stabilized If swelling is evident then do retrograde masaage; gentle massage with fingertips

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned that there is only a small bulge at l5/s1 level in your mri scan which can be found as many as 70% of the individuals. If your pain is only localized to your lower back region with no other leg symptoms like pain, numbness etc, then I would advise you not to worry too much. It is advisable for you to build up your muscles by doing intensive exercises with a trained physical therapist. Take adequate calcium and vitamin d as per your requirement. I don't see any reason for a neuro consultation right now because treatment will remain the same. You can have episodes of back pain in future as well but if you maintain your back muscles, observe good posture and avoid few things like bending forwards acutely, lifting very heavy weights etc, you should lead a pretty normal life. You can also attach your mri images and reports so that I can see and advise accordingly. Also if possible, please get x ray ls spine (ap & lateral- flexion/extension views) so that I can see whether there is any instability or not? do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Fractures - Ways You Can Avoid Them!

Fractures - Ways You Can Avoid Them!

An average person experiences two fractures during his or her lifetime and same holds true for joint related injuries. The severity of this condition depends on a number of factors, ranging from the forces responsible for injury and location to the damage done to the nearby tissues and bones.

How age plays a role in your chances of getting a fracture?

Your risk and severity of developing a fracture, depends, to a certain extent on your age.

A very common occurrence during childhood is crippling joint related injuries, the fractures that you tend to have during this time are generally less complex than the broken bone instances that you stand to experience when you enter adulthood.

With time, your bones become fragile and you become prone to broken bones sustained from falls, which you wouldn't when you were young. Furthermore, as you step into your 50th year, you can get struck by the bone condition osteoporosis, a leading cause of bone fractures during this time. For women, menopause makes them more susceptible to osteoporosis (as infrequent periods and hormonal changes at this time lead to loss of bone mass) and subsequently broken bones.

Preventing crippling joint injuries need many steps in younger generation known as prehab especially for sporting population and adult population involved in day to day activities requiring your body getting subjected to physical stress.

Simple steps to get your joints back to normal in case you do get into injuries.

  1. Having a calcium and vitamin d rich diet to strengthen bones
  2. Exercising to strengthen bone and muscle health as well as your balance
  3. Taking relevant medicines to make your bones strong
  4. Going for timely bone mineral density test to determine the health of your bone
  5. Exposing yourself to the sun for about 20 minutes everyday
  6. Having a requisite calcium intake of 1000 mg and 1200 mg for pre- and postmenopausal women respectively
  7. Preventing a fracture by modification in your household furniture, extra clothing, sometimes addition of simple orthotic devices, improving your muscle reaction time etc go in long way to help prevent falls. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Orthopedist.

You should have to consult some physiotherapist. Or you can go to the nearest yoga classes. You can also use दसमूल क्वाथ् 10 ml with half glass of luck-warm water for pain initially.

While getting up from sofa, suddenly got a lightening pain in lower back. Neither able to sleep nor sit properly. I think this is because of muscle pull. Please advice a alopathic tablet, to subside this pain (note: allergic to Bruffen)

First of all you go for hot fomentation with a hot pillow at your home the pillow is easily available in medical stores. Please note you should lie straight with pillow beneath at the site of pain. It is necessary for you that you must lie on Bed, Couch, Sofa or any other place above at least 3 feet high from the ground level. In case of emergency kindly consult a Orthopedician at your place. You can also post message to my profile for any other query.
