Sleep Pyschiatry: Its Stages and Benefits

Sleep is the normal physiological process of our body which is as important as respiration and digestion. Sleep is vital for maintaining our physical and mental health. Normal adults require 8 hours of sleep every day, whereas it 14 to 15 hours of sleep is recommended for for infants and toddlers.

What are the different stages of Sleep

Every human has a natural circadian clock in their body, which is responsible for maintaining our sleep - wake homeostasis. The different stages of sleep include REM and NREM that is rapid eye movement sleep and non rapid eye movement sleep respectively. REM is the deep sleep stage in which it is very difficult to wake up the person as this stage includes the sensory inhibition and all voluntary muscles along with almost all interactions with the surroundings are inhibited. Therefore, a person’s physical stress and tiredness also gets relieved during this stage of sleep. NREM sleep is the stage between REM and awakening and here the person may have sensory connection with his or her surroundings, but may not respond.

Sleep and its benefits
Sleep and stress have a very strong connection with each other. The best way to relieve stress and any other mental disturbance is sleep. It is essential to have knowledge about sleep psychiatry for almost all physicians as they face many sleep deprived patients in their day to day practice.

  1. Sleep is not only responsible for relieving mental stress and depression, but has other benefits as well
  2. Sleep is also essential for the normal physiological growth in early infancy and it is vital for development of normal alertness, attention and knowledge
  3. It also relaxes our voluntary muscles and thereby, relieves us from physical stress
  4. Sleep disturbance may also aggravate diseases in our body. Sleep is also the state of recovery and healing.

Sleep psychiatry also insist on meditation and ensures that people have normal pattern of sleep, in order to maintain the mental health of the person in a normal state.

I am suffering from throat infection in left side before 6 days. I am taking tab azithromycin with cap becosules and three time saline and betadine gargle on a day. But no any improvement seen. In case of recurrent throat infection you must obtain a report called throat culture and sensitivity which will give idea about kind of infection severity of infection and antibiotic effective to cure it. It is very necessary to check throat thoroughly to decide your tonsils are infected or it is a general throat infection. Sometimes simple authors ulcers in throat can mimic throat infection which is worsened by taking antibiotics and goes away on itself if you take bland diet.

Dear lybrate-user, this simply requires discipline. Make a point to sleep about 10 or 15 minutes less and even if you do not feel like waking, simply get out of bed mechanically, so you would automatically feel better with few minutes of getting out of bed. Hope this helps,

Hi. It's normal to lose up to 100 hair per day, and in most people, those hairs grow back. But many men -- and some women -- lose hair as they grow older. You can also lose your hair if you have certain diseases, such as thyroid problems, diabetes, or lupus. If you take certain medicines or have chemotherapy for cancer, you may also lose your hair. Other causes are stress, a low protein diet, a family history, use of bore water, or nutritional deficiencies. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water/ bore water to wash the head rather use already boiled water or Drinking water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regularly massage head and hair with coconut oil, almond oil (depending upon your scalp type) 1 to 3 times a week. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa tonic twice a day for 3 months. Use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash.

Best way to reduce fat is exercise and diet control. Take pranacharya medohar rasayn twice a day. Medohar guggul 2-2 twice a day. And pranacharya slim capsule 1-1 twice a day. Avoid junk food. TOP 10 CARDIO EXERCISES AT HOME...



Cardio exercises at home is the best way to lose a ton of weight without even hitting the gym. It not only elevates the health but also improves mood and lowers depression level. It additionally helps you in performing better in the work. But people have this common misconception that cardio only means working with gym equipment but in reality there are some cardio exercises at home that is easy and doesn’t include any equipment.

Skip:

There are various kinds of skipping but cardio exercises that consist of skipping includes bringing one leg to the opposite arm and then doing the same with the other. But maintaining the skipping position.

Climbing stairs:

Quickly climbing the stairs up and down is another way to increase theheart rate. It is very beneficial and can be done anywhere.

Taking the knees high:

In this cardio exercise all you have to do is stand in a steady position with hips and legs apart from each other and bringing up one knee higher as possible and then again taking it down. Change the positions and continue the same.

Inching to the floor:

Try and lie down in the floor like in a push-up style but make sure you start from a standing position. Before going to the lie position try and touch the floor with your fingers like you would have done it while bending. Then come back by touching your feet.

Kick your butt:

This is one of the famous cardio exercises at home. Start by kicking your butt with your heels. Make sure your posture is straight and at the same time keep it light.

Jump:

Jumping is another form of cardio exercise. Just keep your legs together with your hands positioned on the side. Jump and keep your feet on the sides and raise your hands over your head. Before jumping again make sure your legs are together followed by your arms.

Lift up the heels:

For this exercise left up the heels about an inch from the ground and make sure the upper portion of your body is relaxed. You can move or shuffle the position as you like.

Climbing the mountain:

Just do it like you are climbing a mountain. Bring your one leg towards your chest and keep the other behind. Keep the hands on the floor positioned, follow the suit, change positions and repeat.

Plank style push-up:

Position your body like you would do to a plank and position the same in the ground. Bring your body up like you would do while doing a push-up.

Push-up like a diver:

Start from a stand and do a push-up like swooshing from front to up with chest down and face. Repeat the same. But while coming back make sure you bring your hips out and face down.

These were some of the cardio exercise at home. But it is important to do the same to notice results.
