Cradle cap

You might expect your baby's skin to be flawless, but baby rashes and other skin conditions ? such as cradle cap ? are common.

Cradle cap appears as thick, yellow, crusty or greasy patches on a baby's scalp. Cradle cap is most common in newborns and usually clears up on its own by age 6 months.

In the meantime, wash your baby's hair with mild baby shampoo and loosen the scales with a small, soft-bristled brush. For stubborn scales, rub petrolatum or a few drops of mineral oil onto your baby's scalp, wait a few minutes, and then brush and shampoo your baby's hair. If cradle cap persists, ask your baby's doctor about other treatment options

Weight gain is best parameter. If baby is on exclussive breast feed and passing urine 6 to 7 times in a day is also an indicator.

It may be colicky abdominal pain or hunger. If he refuses to feed you have to burp properly. Avoid bottle feed and also give Colicaid drops which will relieve pain and gas

Hi doc my son is 15 months old. His birth weight was 2. 75 and now he is 8. 8kg. Is this weight ok. He didn't like to drink any liquid fud except water. Eats other food normally but not sleeping properly. In day time he refuses to sleep. I manage him to sleep somehow for an hr else 2. Please help me in gaining his weight and to've a proper sleep.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Weight, body frame of child depends on so many things including genes. So unless child has lost weight because of illness his weight can't be increased to desired level of parents. Your son's weight is in lower range of normal. Give him healthy food and respect his wishes. You can't control him. Let him sleep or play, it must be his choice. If he is playfull obviously there is nothing wrong with him. Get his hb% done if required you can start iron supplements.

My baby is 3.5 months old. She is having low weight 4.7 kg. She is not taking mothers milk. How to increase her weight.

She is definitely not gaining wt properly. Encourage mother and put baby on breast for breast feeding which is "Amrit" for up to 6 months of age. If baby is not sick and is active, there is no reason for baby not taking mother's milk. No substitute is even equivalent to mother'milk. There is no other way to increase wt of baby except milk at this age.

Many information are lacking particularly her age and wt, any way don't keep her too hungry to cry and then taking time to bring food, that makes her over hunger to dislike food. Same reason may be for lack of sleep.

Hello, If it's a birth mark, so wait for some more time as sometimes the mark gets lighten. We can slight make the mark little better, but can't remove the birth mark totally. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Lycopodium 30/ thrice a day for 20 days. Revert me back there after.

Breast feeding is best for your baby, formula feeding is just substitution. Colostrum is the so called" witch milk" that comes out from the mother's nipple for 2-3 days after child birth. It should definately be given to the baby as it is a rich source of immunoglobulins and anti-infective factors for the baby. Burp your child everytime after a feed.Motherhood has to be enjoyed rather than a duty to fulfill.

A good complementary diet, along with breastmilk ensure a good weight and proper growth of a child after the age of 6 months. I may need to see your baby's growth chart to comment further.

DAA, DNB
Pulmonologist, Bangalore
Hi. I understand your concerns. You will need to undergo a detailed examination and pulmonary function test which is needed for diagnosis and also to assess severity of asthma based on which treatemnt can be started. Asthma is chronic and a common problem causing symptoms. Unfortunately it can not be cured but can definitely be controlled so that you can lead a symptom free life. Consult a pulmonologist for the same. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.
