4 Best Foods for Nursing Mothers

Diet is an important part of any person's life as food that goes in your body is what replenishes the resources lost in a day's work. The wrong kind of food will have adverse effects on the body in all sorts of ways, and that holds especially true for nursing mothers.

A mother, after carrying a baby to a full term, has to go through many hormonal and physical changes, which can be very stressful. After childbirth comes one of the other most important phases i.e. nursing and it is important to ensure that the mother gets proper nutrition during this phase. This is because it is the mother's milk that provides the baby with the required nutrients for growth as well as to build and immune system, which is why it is very important for a nursing mother to have a proper diet.

Let's look at some of the food items that should be consumed during this time:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables - These are important during the nursing period for the mother as she needs to supplement important minerals in her body such as calcium and iron. Green, leafy vegetables are a must.
  • Dairy products low in fat - As the mother's body produces milk, certain minerals get drained quicker than others and a direct supplement for them would be dairy products. However, it is important to ensure that their fat content is low as this can add cholesterol and thus, may adversely affect the health of the mother.
  • Lean meats - Lean meats are a great source of protein that can supplement many of the minerals and nutrients. However, rich meat-based foods and heavy red meat should be avoided. Chicken in roasted form or tikka form is also healthy proteins that can be consumed 2 - 3 times a week. Fish, especially Salmon fish, is also a healthy and rich source of omega-3 as well as high in protein.
  • Legumes - Legumes are a great source of iron, which is an extremely important mineral for a nursing mother. This is also an alternative for vegetarians. Legumes are not only a rich source of iron, they are also high in protein and helps the mother to stay fit and energetic to be able to take on the additional responsibility of her new-born baby.

Mr. lybrate-user you are overweight which is itself an invitation of no. Of problems so your first aim should be to reduce weight which itself minimize your problem, please take following measures 1. Daily brisk morning walk for 35 minutes 2. Daily exercise and do meditation for 30 minutes 3.take 2 glass of lukewarm water 4 take one appel daily empty stomach 5. No oily spicy and processed food 6. No dairy product except chacha and curd 7. No smoking, no alcohol, no tobacco 8. No dry fruits 9. No excess of tea and coffee 10. Take small and frequent meal 11. Take more salad and green leafy vegetables instead of carbohydrate 12 take fibrous fruits like papaya, appel, citrus, berries between two measure meal 13 high fibrous meal like whole wheat, bran, oats meal, sprout etc 14 make all above instructions of your life 15 for gas take pan d 1 tab in morning empty stomach.

First you should follow low calories food for weight loss. * in morning, take 1-2 chapattis with a bowl of cooked green vegetables. You can take a glass of lemon water with it *in lunch you can take a bowl of raw vegetables like carrot, radish, tomatoes, turnip or beetroot. *in evening, you can take a cup of green tea only with some pieces of friuts like apple, pineapple, pear. Avoid taking banana or mango. *in dinner, you can take vegetable soup or a bowl of cooked vegetables. But do not take potato, sweet potatoes. * you can take a cup skimmed milk 4 times a week only during day time. * work out for atleast 1 hour in morning, you can try skipping for 15minutes with a walk of 30 minutes and 5-10 minutes running. Follow these exercises in the morning - * lie down on flat surface, raise your legs without bending your knees, do it for 3-5 times daily * do not eat fastfoods and soft drinks, as they have high calories and the calories deposit in body in the form of weight if not utilised. * you can take medohar guggalu 1 tablet daily for quick weight loss but only under the guidance of ayurveda expert. Hello. It seems she had accelerated hypertension because of which she was hospitalised. To control accelerated bp, give injectables including diuretics, which cause reduction in bp soon and frequent urination. On discharge injectable drugs are shifted to oral. Do check her bp at home even, because diuretics tend to cause dehydration and fall in blood preesure more during summers. If this is so, do consult your physician. Some orthopedic medicines include analgesics which cause gastritis, do take it after meals and antacids along.

I will suggest you to do suryanamaskar daily as per your capacity for a minimum of six months and for loosing weight few tips on diet say no to maida items like toast , khaari ,naan ,white bread . can drink tea but without sugar say no to Buffalo milk and can drink cows milk can eat brown bread can eat sprout's can eat green vegetables, can eat chappati ,bajra ka rotla can eat one katori of rice twice a day with dal to avoid farsan food items can eat fruits say no to coconut water

Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as one of the body's natural defenses against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at a higher temperatures..Also, the body's defense mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or more may be dangerous and demand immediate treatment The following medications may be used at home for mild fever : -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used in children during a viral illness. -Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes and donot overdress. Overdressing can cause the temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -Fever can cause dehydration.Drink plenty of fluids.Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami,Amla juice etc. -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals .avoid outside food -Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water especially before meals, or after returning from a public places or using public transport. -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly

Hi Doctor, Am working in night shift. I have a stomach problem in regular. Gas trouble, uneven motion, motion smells very bad. And am eating in hotels only. But I won't take junk foods or fast foods. I also use to take healthy juices, fruits etc. But some times my stomach will burn. But I don't have stomach ache. Need to know how to clean my stomach to get rid of this.

1. Avoid outside spicy and fried food. 2. Walk about 3-5 kms daily. 3. There should be gap of 2hrs after dinner and sleep. 4. Small and frequent meals is of help 5. Chew your food properly at time of lunch and dinner. 6. Keep your blood sugar controlled. 7. Raise your bed about 4" from headend side. 8. Get your gastroendoscopy/USG done. 9. Tab Pantium-l 1 tab empty stomach.

Hi lybrate-user, the process of filling the gap between teeth is known as orthodontic treatment, wherein you will be required to wear braces (an appliance with wires) for anywhere between 6 months to 1 year, depending upon the exact condition of your teeth. However, this treatment will serve as a permanent solution to your problem. You teeth alignment will become better and your smile will improve, these days, braces, similar to the color of teeth (ceramic braces) have also become available which are potentially much better looking than the conventional silver appliances. Any lesions on the scalp causes exfoliation of the skin which is called as dandruff and the scalp lesions are responsible for the hair loss and I will suggest you to wash your hair daily with lux shampoo and apply hair oil daily.

It is not healthy. Protein absorption is lower from raw eggs, and the uptake of biotin may be prevented. Most concerning is the small risk of raw eggs contaminated with bacteria leading to Salmonella infection.

If you have permanent problem of cough, you should precautions. Some tips for you * take ginger & turmeric mix with honey before food * take ajvayan & jeera 1 tsp each after each meal * take hot water only * eat less then of your hunger. Take fast. It will help you for less cough production * avoid day sleep, stress, night awaking * start excersice. *start ayurveda medicine yastimadhu ghanvati or lavangadi vati I need more history for better medication.

There are various reasons for getting hair fall. Nutritional deficiency, stress, acute illness like malaria, typhoid, jaundice, chronic illness like diabetes, thyroid can trigger the hair fall, Smoking, excessive alcohol intake. Hello, according to ayurveda weight gain not only depends upon heavy diet but also on other factors like proper digestion, sound sleep, and mental relaxation. Your excess diet/protein powder is not being digested and hence major of its portion is being wasted as excreta. Try these modifications for weight gain- a) avoid fast food and spicy diet. B) avoid late night sessions. C) wakeup early before 6: 30 and perform yogasana like pawan muktasana and slight running schedule. D) increase sweets and dairy products in your diet. E) try to sleep at least eight hours a day.

Hi! mindfulness is an appropriate exercise for controlling anger. You are quite aware of the side effects of getting unnecessary angry as you have lost a close friend. Try to concentrate on whatever you do, attend to your immediate environment even when you are eating, watching tv. Avoid judging people as they will not behave according to you. Try to be in their shoes and then take your decision. It is tough to be calm and easy to blame others when we are in difficult situation and the close ones are the victim in such situations. We always take them for granted. Responding and reacting are two different things.
