Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Most of your conditions needs attention from a general physician/diabetologist but I can advise you regarding your knee pain. Even your foot swelling probably does not have a musculoskeletal cause, but still I can tell you that persistent swelling in foot region can be due to deranged kft, lft, thyroid profile and issues with heart. Sometimes even chronic protein deficiency can lead to persistent foot swelling. Looking at your age, I would think that if there are no external s/s of inflammation, then knee pain would be due to degenerative changes setting in the joint. Please catch hold of a good physical therapist and do intensive knee - quadriceps and hamstring ex, avoid sitting cross legged and squatting, use a western toilet etc - take adequate calcium and vitamin d as per your body's requirement - daily walks for 2-3 km per day in morning should help you. You can take a short course of a safe anti-inflammatory medication - hot fomentation at home 3-4 times in a day might also help in your knee pain but mainstay remains exercises please send me both knee ( ap & lateral) x rays so that I can see and advise you accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

It is great to know that you have lost so much of weight. It is a big achievement. The nutrition program you were in to lose bad fat was a change in your lifestyle. Try to keep the same lifestyle, as the minute you start eating the wrong foods, there are full chances that you might gain all the weight back. To maintain a low body fat and/or lower body fat: 1.Exercise at least 5 times per week 2.Eat whole/unprocessed foods at regular intervals, while being aware of physical hunger/fullness cues 3.Sleep 7-9 hours per night 4.Don’t engage in extreme diets 5.Stay consistent with your habits 6.Incorporate non-exercise physical activity 7.Ignore food advertising You need a fat loss diet which comprises of whole grains like jowar, bajra, wheat, brown rice, pulses like moong, musoor, bengal gram, lots of vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, healthy oil, nuts and seeds. You need to eat them in right proportion. Avoid eating sugar and sweets, refined foods like maida, noodles pasta, White rice and products, bread. Drink a lot of water.

Hi lybrate-user to gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.

Diet and workouts go a long way in helping you gain strength to gain weight, you must eat more calories than you burn. When you gain weight, some will be fat and some will be muscle. To gain muscle, you must eat protein. To boost the ratio of muscle to fat gain, you must exercise. To gain muscle and strength, you must engage in resistance exercise. To improve body fat percentage and gain weight, you must cycle through phases of gaining muscle and losing fat. I can also suggest home remedies.

Beware of the Processed Foods In The Market

Diploma in Dietetics, M.Sc. Food & Nutrition, B.Sc. Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Panchkula
Beware of the Processed Foods In The Market
With the flood of processed foods in the market and the recent controversy of lead found in noodles, it is a general concern which foods are safe to consume. Not all processed foods are really bad. But, what are processed foods?

Processed foods are packaged food items which have gone through a method of preservation to increase shelf life. This includes breads and cookies, along with protein and dairy products.

The good foods -
1) pasteurized milk - although processed to make it safe, pasteurized milk is free from any additives or preservatives and hence totally safe.
2) cheese - just like milk, cheese also goes through a process during its creation. However, looking at its health benefits, it is advised to keep them in your diet. However, cheese has high content of fat and sodium, so keep a watch on the amount you intake.
3) frozen foods-- these are actually better than fresh foods stored in a refrigerator, since foods meant to be frozen are proceeded immediately to be frozen, without much of environmental exposure which can degrade the food over time, even though refrigerated.

The bad foods -
1) sugar-rich foods - store bought foods with sugar are very harmful for health. Keep foods like yogurts, pasta sauces, savory snacks etc out of your diet as much as possible.
2) frozen entrees - even if they claim to be with low calories, frozen foods are not good for health. They have too much of preservatives, fillers and sodium, with hardly any'real food.
3) store bought baked goods - pre-baked cakes, cookies and muffins are easy to buy and eat but are not healthy options at all. They have ingredients which are at times unheard of and, unhealthy. Homemade baked goods are much healthier versions.
4) condiments - bottles sauces are packed with preservatives as they need to have long shelf life. They have an overdose of salt and sugar, making them extremely harmful for your health.
5) yoghurt - is a safe and healthy food if it is not flavoured with any sweetened fruit etc. Greek yoghurt, which is low in fat and high in protein, can be considered a healthy option.

1. Nothing much can be done about the sagging breasts except breast surgery which may not be that worthwhile 2. Build up your confidence and do whatever you want to do 3. No breast massage or ointment will be helpful 4. Use an appropriate brassier with proper support and shoulder straps (running/gym bras could lend you good support)

Hi Firstly understand that weight gain is very dependent on genetics and metabolism. It is important to know that just eating just two heavy meals a day will not help. Eating the right foods at the right time is very important. Eat meals at frequent intervals. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits in your meals. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. Even if you were to take medicines or supplements they will not work in isolation you need to have a calorie and nutrient dense meal.
