I have suffering from chest pain. Can you suggest me what to do? It pains only in the left side of chest.
Dear Lybrateuser, - At your age chest pain could be due to acidity, anxiety or sedentary habit - chew your food well, do not skip meals, have meals on time, have 4-5 meals including snacks rather than three large meals, do not lye down for about an hour after meals, have dinner 2-3 hrs before bedtime - avoid fried, spicy & junk food, also restrict intake of tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day - have 7-8 glasses of water for sufficient hydration - do regular exercise like, walking, jogging, swimming, playing games, also do yoga & deep breathing for 5-10 min daily - take syrup Gelusil, 2 teaspoonful three times a day half an hour after meals - if not much improvement then get an x- ray chest done to know the exact cause & consult a doctor.

Your blood sugar and cholesterol level is in the upper limit of normal. Regular exercise, diet control, weight reduction, avoiding oily and fatty food, restricting carbohydrate and sweets can bring down the sugar and cholesterol level. Repeat the test after some time. If not under control medicine has to be started.

High hdl is good for heart. Raised sgot and sgpt may be due to some effect on the liver like many medicine, some viral infections, fatty liver and many similar problems. So for treatment exact reason has to be identified.

Some time my heart beat get over fast and I feel too weak and same time gets headache. Is that a problem.
As of now for headache you can take tablet paracetamol. But we will have to make a diagnosis to get to the cause of it which can be either due to frontal sinusitis or due to migrane or due to refractive error of the eyes or due to other causes for which we have to investigate. If you want medicine than, I will prescibe.

My blood pressure everyday low. So pls tell me sir what can I do. Waiting your answer.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Depending on the reason for your low blood pressure, you may be able to take certain steps to help reduce or even prevent symptoms. Some suggestions include: Drink more water, less alcohol.  Alcohol is dehydrating and can lower blood pressure, even if you drink in moderation. Water, on the other hand, combats dehydration and increases blood volume. Follow a healthy diet.  Get all the nutrients you need for good health by focusing on a variety of foods, including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean chicken and fish. If your doctor suggests using more salt but you don't like a lot of salt on your food, try using natural soy sauce or adding dry soup mixes to dips and dressings. Go slowly when changing body positions.  You may be able to reduce the dizziness and lightheadedness that occur with low blood pressure on standing by taking it easy when you move from a prone to a standing position. Before getting out of bed in the morning, breathe deeply for a few minutes and then slowly sit up before standing. Sleeping with the head of your bed slightly elevated also can help fight the effects of gravity. If you begin to get symptoms while standing, cross your thighs in a scissors fashion and squeeze, or put one foot on a ledge or chair and lean as far forward as possible. These maneuvers encourage blood to flow from your legs to your heart. Eat small, low-carb meals.  To help prevent blood pressure from dropping sharply after meals, eat small portions several times a day and limit high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Your doctor also may recommend drinking caffeinated coffee or tea with meals to temporarily raise blood pressure. But because caffeine can cause other problems, check with your doctor before drinking more caffeinated beverages.

Why Homeopathy is Good to Control Your High Blood Pressure

BHMS, PG Hom London

Why Homeopathy is Good to Control Your High Blood Pressure

Why homeopathy is good to control your high blood pressure

According to statistics put forward by the world health organization, high blood pressure affects about 600 million people all over the world and causes about 5 million premature deaths every year.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is many times called the silent killer as it doesn't reveal any visible damage. But it does cause significant damage to the heart, brain, eyes and kidneys.

What are the causes of hypertension?

Certain factors cause your arteries to have consistently high levels of blood pressure and based on these factors your hypertension gets classified into the following:

  • Primary hypertension: if the condition doesn't have an identifiable cause, it is known as primary hypertension. This form of high blood pressure develops slowly but surely over many years.

  • Secondary hypertension: this type of hypertension is characterized by identifiable causes that can be corrected with treatment. About 5-10% of cases in the world are secondary in nature. It is usually caused by an underlying problem and tends to appear all of a sudden.

Factors that fall under it are:

  •   kidney problems
  •   sleep apnea
  •   thyroid problems
  •   adrenal gland problems
  •   alcohol abuse

Role of homeopathy in treating high blood pressure

Apart from conventional forms of medicine, homeopathy is also considered to be an effective treatment of high blood pressure. The treatment is tailor-made to your needs as it takes into consideration your external and internal environments. This is because the experiences that you may have and the characteristics of the disease that you display are not the same as the other affected person. It works by viewing your disease as a disturbance that affects your entire body and not just a specific body part.

It not only cures blood pressure but also the reason for high blood pressure so that it does not increase again when your mind or body faces stress.

Hi , I have been following a bad diet routine for last 6-7 months . Always eating outside. Last week I did a normal Cholesterol check and found it to be 237. Then I consulted a doctor. We did a full lipid profile where LDL found to be 182 and HDL to be 32. Alos the blood pressure was 139/88 in first reading . The second reading was 140/100 but it was taken the next day after office hours and travel . The doctor has prescribed one medicine for Cholesterol and one for BP . My question is that should I follow the medicine or there is still chance of lowering the blood pressure by lifestyle changes.

Dear lybrate-user, looks like all bcz of inappropriate life style. To claim an asymptomatic person having high bp, one must have two reading of high bp 24 hrs apart. If you have already started medicine, stick to it & modify your lifestyle which includes healthy diet, regular routine & daily 40 minutes exercise.

Approach to Ramadan Fasting In Patients with Heart Diseases

PGDCC (Cardiology ), CCEBDM (Diabetes), CCGDM (Gestational Diabetes), CCMTD (Thyroid), MBBS
Cardiologist, Udaipur
Approach to Ramadan Fasting In Patients with Heart Diseases

Holy month ramadan is auspicious for worldwide muslims and most of them starts fasting early in the morning up to the sunset in the evening during this entire month.

Heart disease patients tend to fast during ramadan but they have many questions:

1. Cardiac patients can fast?

The holy Quran exempts sick people from fasting. Fasting is allowed only for stable heart disease patient and it's strictly the discretion of the treating cardiologist.

Common types of cardiac conditions as follows:

A. Patients who had heart attack or recent stenting or open heart surgery

Many studies comparing ramadan with other months in cardiac patients shows there is no significant differences in the incidence of heart attack or typical cardiac chest pain during ramadan. Patients with recent acute heart attack, heart attack equivalent chest pain with high cardiac enzymes, recent stenting, recent open heart surgery should strictly avoid fasting.

B. Patients with low pumping of heart i. E, reduced ejection fraction

Low pumping of the heart is one of the common cause of frequent hospitalisations among cardiac patients. Many studies done in the middle east shows there was no significant difference in the number of hospitalizations for patients with low heart pumping during ramadan. Its almost similar to other months without fasting. But in this category certain groups of patients cannot fast especially patients with difficulty in breathing, associated swelling of legs, associated cough and sudden increase in weight.

C. Patients with high blood pressure.

Most of the high blood pressure patients on controlled medications can fast during ramadan as it will not affect the blood pressure readings and it was proved in many studies. Certain group of patients with resistant blood pressure who requires multiple drugs for controlling should consult treating doctors before ramadan for appropriate dose adjustments. If dose adjustment is not possible then for such patients it is advisable to abstain from fasting to avoid cardiac and other complications.

2. How to take their cardiac drugs during this month?

Stomach ulcer and related complications are common during ramadan. Hence drugs which can cause gastric irritation (like aspirin) should be taken as per the advice of treating doctor. Before ramadan you should consult your doctor and make sure regarding the dose and timing. Medications like water pill (lasix)to be avoided during fasting.

3. Lifestyle during ramadan

Avoid over eating while breaking the fast

Avoid exercise after a large meal

Stop smoking

4. Can cardiac patients do hajj pilgrimage?

Cardiac patients who is certified as stable and fit by the treating cardiologist can go for hajj

Full medical workup is mandatory before hajj.

Patients with recent acute heart attack, heart attack equivalent chest pain with high cardiac enzymes, recent stenting, recent open heart surgery are unfit for hajj.

Take home messages-:

A. Consult your doctor before ramadan regarding your health condition and dose adjustments if required.

B. Comply to medication

C. High risk patients should avoid fasting

D. Unfit cardiac patients should not try hajj pilgrimage.
