The Only 4 Moves That Strengthen Your KNEES
4 exercises to strengthen your knees

Knee pains and pains in the joints are not restricted to a certain age group anymore. Younger people of today face this problem too. To stay active all your life and escape the severe aches associated with weakening of muscles, joint pains or arthritis, you must start now. The only way to keep your knees fine and working is to exercise.
4 moves that help you strengthen your knees.
1. Leg lifts (inner thigh) - lie on any one side, lay your head on the arm of the side below you. Make sure this hand is straight above your head, touching the ground. Keep your legs straight, one above the other. Lift the leg on top a few inches above, hold for few seconds and bring it back. Do this for 10 times and then with the other leg, on the other side. This exercise strengthens your inner thighs, eventually strengthening the knees.
2. Hip raises: lie flat on your back, your shoulders touching the ground. Bend your legs comfortable, your feet resting firmly on the ground. Raise your hips and thighs so that from your head to feet, you form an angle. Wait in this position for about 10 seconds, lower your hip until it touches the ground. Repeat for ten counts.
3. Lunges: stand straight. Take a step ahead with your right leg. Left leg remains in its place. With your back straight, bend your knees so that both are at 90 degrees. Go back to standing position; take your right leg back to where it was. Do the same step with your left leg. Repeat both sides ten times.
4. Bent leg extensions: this is pretty easy and all that you need to do it sit on a chair comfortably, with your back straight first. Your feet firmly flat on the ground in front of you, lift the right leg straight extending to the front. Make sure your thighs stay on the chair. Bring your leg back to the original position, firmly planted on the ground. Do the same with your left leg. Repeat 10 times on both sides.

Sir for this in ayurveda a very well known medicine is available. Please apply maha narayan oil on both side. Twice daily. Try to protect knee from wet cool air. Also start some physical exercise to increase circulation. After 10 days tell the progress.

Mam, you can have early knee osteoarthritis, you need to get knee xray bilateral ap view standing, start knee physiotherapy. And get to us back with reports.

You most probably are suffering from oa of knee. Knee surgery-total knee replacement (tkr) is quite safe & gives uniformly good results, in our hands. We have well equipped centers in delhi. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Surgery should be done when patient is still active & will be able to take benefit of surgery. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem. Kindly show me x rays before a final decision can be taken. You will be thoroughly investigated before surgery is under taken.

Platelet count can vary from time to time. But since your is on the lower side I would recommend that you get all your blood tests done to see the cause of low platelet count. I would like to know if there is any pain in your knee. I would suggest you get your x ray of both the knees done for further treatment.

Before advent of MRI & ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY these patients were treated with medicines Plaster cast & physiotherapy with almost equally good results.

Advice... Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

At present complete bed rest for at least one week. Avoid sitting cross-legged, avoid squatting. You can do hot fomentation two times a day. Avoid lifting weights for at least 12 weeks to ensure proper healing of knee.

Most common cause of both knee pain in old age is osteoarthritis (age related wear and tear of joints). She should avoid sitting on floor or squatting. Get a physiotherapy help to reduce pain and teach relevant exercises. But, it is better to get her checked up by an orthopaedician first to rule out other possibilities.

Suffering From Insomnia - 7 Lifestyle Changes You Must Do!

Sleep is the most essential part of our lives because it is the time when our body gets rejuvenated and recharged. However, due to numerous reasons, quite a few individuals fail to achieve proper sleep or any sleep at all. This condition in which a person is unable to sleep at night can be termed as insomnia.

Causes of insomnia
There can be varied reasons for different people that can cause insomnia.

  • Unhealthy lifestyle i.e. improper sleep cycle, improper food habits, untimely naps, substance abuse etc.
  • Medical conditions like sinus allergies, gastrointestinal problems, endocrine problems, arthritis, asthma, neurological condition like Parkinson’s disease, chronic back pain etc.
  • Psychological conditions like depression and anxiety
  • Certain medications aimed to cure other health problems

In case of the treatable medical reasons, insomnia is gone once the problem is treated. However, for people who have no idea as to why they suffer from insomnia, here are certain tips that can help in fighting it.

Lifestyle changes to cure insomnia
Starting with a significant lifestyle change can be a great way to change one’s sleep cycles and get a good night’s sleep.

  • Maintain a proper and healthy diet, with more fruits and vegetables and less carbs and fat.
  • Try to sleep and wake up at the same time everyday (despite the fact that you may not feel sleepy). This will train the body and regulate the body clock.
  • Avoid afternoon naps or any short naps during the day.
  • Exercise daily for at least 30 minutes.
  • Avoid caffeine as it has contains properties that keeps a person up for long hours.
  • Avoid intake of alcohol and nicotine. Although alcohol is associated with fun and partying, it is actually a depressant and causes improper sleep.
  • Avoid any meal right before bed time.

Tips that can help

  • Take a good, warm shower right before sleep.
  • Ask your partner to give you a nice massage before bedtime.
  • Restrict bed activities to sleep and sex only, nothing more.
  • Make a really comfortable and inviting sleep environment.
  • Try and get rid of all your worries before going to bed.
  • Reduce stress using a number of stress reduction therapies like meditation, deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation techniques, etc.

Apart from the lifestyle changes and the tips that will help you gain a better sleep, there is another therapy, which may be useful. It is called the cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy can give essential knowledge about sleep and help achieve normal sleep routines. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychiatrist.

I am 45 yr male, suffering from knee pain from last one and half years. Having severe pain while climbing up or down, at the time of car diriving and continuous sitting on chair for long time with knees bend. Also not able to expouse knee to fan air or ac air for morethan 3-4 minutes. X-ray report-" maltracking patella, of shallow trochelear grovi. Mri report -a)degenerative changes in the posterior horn of medial meniscus, b)early changes of osteoarthrities in the medial compartment c)shallow trochlear groove with flattened medial facet --? clinical significance. Taken collaflex for 4 months, tab eto free for 3 monhts, physio for 40 days. Continuosuly doing q exercise. However no change in pain level. One of the dr suggested operation called" arthoscopic lavage and retinacular balancing' followed by +vissco supplement. Please advise whether this operation will relieve me of complete pain.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have symptoms of maltracking of patella due to a shallow groove, this can actually lead to anterior knee pain over a period of time due to softening of cartilage covering patella. Normally as an initial measure, we try rigorous physiotherapy with some supportive medications and see for the result, a lot of patients improve symptomatically with this but in some patients there may not be an improvement because of bad bio mechanics and for that we might have to think of a surgical procedure. Hi, she may be suffering from osteoarthritis of knee joints or from rheumatoid arthritis if she has morning stiffness of finger and hand joints. She requires xray of both knees standing view to confirm on same. For ruling out ra requires blood tests like cbc, ra factor, crp. Knee cap and physiotherapy will help to an extent. Medicines like pain killers may reduce pain for the time. Get back with xray/ consult ortho surgeon.
