Dear Lybrate user, pain during menstruation is considered bad and overall improvement in health is necessary. Take a good healthy diet, consume seasonal fresh fruits daily, take couple of dates regularly. Drink a good quantity of liquids (3 to 3.5 ltr) per day. Take Kumari asav 20 ml with water after food twice day. All these will reduce your pain during menstruation. The treatment of infertility needs a brief history of yours and your partner. A few blood investigations and sonography reports are necessary. please consult privately for further information and treatment guidelines. Hope this answers your query. Thank you.

There are maximum chances of getting pregnant in the mid cycle days  of menstrual cycle. If your cycle is of 28 days (1st day to be counted on the day menstrual flow starts) the 14th day bears the maximum chances of getting pregnant. On the both sides of 14th day chances of conceiving gradually decreases with minimum chance (not zero) near 1st and 28th day of cycle.

Wait for periods. You can do preg test 2-3 days before your due date. If sex is done a week before or after your menses chances of pregnancy are less.

Signs That Can Predict an Illness!

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Signs That Can Predict an Illness!

The trouble with recovering from most illnesses is that we begin to treat the illness too late. Although you cannot expect your body to announce the arrival of a virus, recognizing the signs of falling sick can help treat it earlier. For example, if you can't stop sneezing and can feel the onset of the flu, getting some extra sleep may make you feel better. Here are a few signs that can predict an illness

  1. Reduced appetite - A slight decrease in appetite during the summer is normal but if the sight of food makes you nauseous or you stop enjoying your food, it may be a sign of an oncoming illness. These illnesses could range from a simple cold to gastroenteritis or strep throat. A diminishing diet can be a result of the production of cytokines by the body as part of its inflammatory response to infections. Lesser food takes lesser time to digest thereby using lesser calories and diverting energy towards fighting the infection.
  2. Swollen neck glands - Feel your neck glands, just below the jawbone to check for infections. Swollen neck glands are the body's way of letting you know that you may be falling ill. These are usually a sign of ear infections, cold, dental problems or skin infections. Neck glands are storehouses for white blood cells. When these are activated into fighting infections, the collection of dead cells, bacteria etc result in swollen neck glands.
  3. Fatigue - There's a difference between being tired at the end of a long day and being exhausted throughout the day. The latter is a way your body is telling you to slow down and conserve energy to fight an oncoming illness.
  4. Muscle aches - Aching muscles can also be a sign of the oncoming flu. One of the main reasons for this is the body's production of antibodies that release histamines and cytokines in the bloodstream. When these travel to various muscles, they can trigger pain receptors leading to body aches.
  5. Low fever - The ideal body temperature is 98.7 degrees. If you have a higher temperature that persists for a few days, you may be coming down with an infection. Fever is your body's way of fighting infection by raising its internal temperature. A low fever is a sign of colds, allergies, and even stomach infections.

There is a fine line between being a hypochondriac and recognizing signs of falling sick. To differentiate between the two, pay attention to the type, duration, and intensity of symptoms. If you feel like you're on the verge of falling sick, rest your body and take some multivitamins. If you experience a sudden or severe change in symptoms, consult a doctor immediately.

Ovulation happens 14 days before the next period comes, and as egg stays Alive for 12 to 24 hours a sexual contact done two days before and two days after ovulation allows the sperm to fertilize the egg as you must be aware that sperm stays alive for almost 2 to 3 days in female genital tract.

Know How Syphilis Can be Treated!

Know How Syphilis Can be Treated!

Certain diseases are fatal, thus, proper measures must be taken to ensure that once the symptoms have been confirmed, treatment must start immediately. Syphilis is one of the most communicable sexually transmitted diseases. If left untreated, Syphilis can be fatal.

It can lead to heart disease, brain damage and blindness. A woman infected with Syphilis can also pass it on unknowingly to her baby, if she suffers from the disease during her pregnancy. Syphilis can be easily treated, but if left too late, the antibiotics that treat it cannot reverse the damage caused by Syphilis.

Syphilis can be tested by:

  • A blood test: In most cases, a simple blood test can confirm the presence of Syphilis by showing signs of the antibodies used to fight it.
  • Testing the fluid from the sores: This is usually done in the case of primary or secondary Syphilis when sores are present on the patient's skin. Looking at a scraping of the sore under a microscope can be used to diagnose Syphilis if it shows the presence of the Syphilis bacteria.
  • Testing cerebrospinal fluid: This is performed only in extreme cases of Syphilis where the disease may have caused complications with your nervous system. The earlier Syphilis is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat.

Syphilis is usually treated with antibiotics amongst which penicillin is the most preferred. If you've had Syphilis for less than a year, a single injected dose of penicillin can stop the disease from progressing. You may need additional doses if you have been suffering from Syphilis for more than a year. Penicillin is also the only antibiotic that can cure Syphilis and suits pregnant women as well. If you have been diagnosed with Syphilis during pregnancy, your baby should also be treated for it.

When undergoing treatment for Syphilis, here are a few other points to keep in mind:

  • Abstain from oral, vaginal and anal sex until the sores have healed
  • Get blood tests at regular intervals for at least a year after treatment
  • Get tested for an HIV infection
  • Fevers, nausea, headaches and chills are normal side effects associated with Syphilis treatment
  • If you are allergic to penicillin, let your doctor know so that you can be given an alternative antibiotic
  • If you have a lesion around your mouth, Syphilis can even spread through kissing another person

The good news is that once you've been cured of Syphilis, it does not recur. However, it is recommended to always use protection while having intercourse and abstain from sexual activities if your partner suffers from Syphilis.

My wife is pregnant probably it's 4-8 weeks. Is it safe to have sex in this pregnancy time. Regards, Bablu Prasad Ram.

My wife is pregnant probably it's 4-8 weeks.
Is it safe to have sex in this pregnancy time.
Regards, Bablu Prasad Ram.
Your developing baby is protected by the amniotic fluid in your uterus, as well as the strong muscles of the uterus itself. Sexual activity won't affect your baby. So it is completely safe to sex during pregnancy. But during first trimester sometimes there is risk of miscarriage because of intercourse and excessive body movement so try to avoid sex during first trimester.

Not advisable to travel as bleeding can start, suggest wait atleast for another 16wks, you might have placenta position changed, and then you can travel, ideally you should get your delivery done in nellore to avoid any complications.

You should not be using antipreg kits in such short durations as it weekens your uterus and fertility in the long run, get an IUCD inserted to avoid pregnancy.

Hi, I am 8th month pregnant actually I wanted to know is it safe to have intercourse during this months?
Its safe as long as you have stayed healthy all this while and your placenta is not low lying, also at this stage its also about your comfort which matters as sexual activity at 8th month is highly uncomfortable both for you and your partner.
