Most of us our always worried sick about our performance in bed, but rather than worrying about it, we should try to invest emotionally in our relationship. Sex is supposed to be enjoyable, but it isn't always the case. If you are too preoccupied wondering about your physical appearance and your ability in bed, sex may make you feel more stressed than relaxed. This is known as sexual performance anxiety and can even get to a point where it makes you avoid sex altogether.   

There may be many reasons for performance anxiety. Some of these are:

  • Fear that you will not be able to satisfy your partner sexually
  • Lack of self confidence and insecurity about your appearances
  • Difficulties in your relationship
  • The anxiety about not being able to have an orgasm
  • A man's fear of premature ejaculation or taking too long to orgasm

Thus this type of anxiety is not rooted in any type of medical problem. Rather than medication, a change in thinking and perception is required to treat performance anxiety.

Here are a few tips that can help you: 

  1. Fight stressStress in your daily life can spill over to your bedroom as well. This can make sex a chore rather than something to be enjoyed. Recognize your stress triggers and find ways to eliminate them. Regular exercise can be very helpful in reducing stress. 
  2. Prolong foreplay: Sex does not have a time limit or there is need to follow a set of steps. Like any other activity, your body needs to 'warm up' for sex as well. Instead of putting pressure on yourself to control or release your orgasm, get into the flow of the moment and take it slow. Try getting intimate with your partner in ways that do not involve sex such as a massage or having a shower together. 

Communicate with your partner: Talk to your partner about how you feel. Understand that it is not necessary to have an orgasm every time you have sex. Talking to your partner can help ease some of the anxiety and improve your relationship. 

Talk to a therapist: Asking for help is not a bad thing or something you need to be ashamed of. Therapists are trained to teach you about how to be more comfortable with your sexuality and can help eliminate the triggers of sexual performance anxiety. 

Give up control: Do not hold yourself responsible for your erections or your partner's orgasms. To a large extent sexual responsiveness is governed by the unconscious mind and hence worrying does nothing.

A dissociative disorder or dissociative amnesia is a mental illness that involves the breaking down of memory, consciousness, identity and perception.   1. Psychotherapy: This form of treatment is designed to encourage communication and give the person insight into their problems. It uses a number of psychological techniques.

Can Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Be Dealt With?

Are you suffering from seasonal depression triggered by the change in season? This condition is known as seasonal affective disorder or SAD and primarily occurs during the winter. It usually starts when the days start getting colder and shorter. SAD requires treatment as it limits an affected person’s ability to smoothly carry out his or her everyday activities. Here are the several methods by which SAD can be treated or dealt with:

  1. Light therapy boxes: Light therapy boxes emit light which mimics sunshine in a particular way. This helps in recovery from SAD. The light from these therapy boxes are brighter than normal light bulbs and are of various wavelengths. The patient is required to sit in front of a light box for a period of 30 minutes every day. As a result, the circadian rhythms of the body get stimulated and the natural release of melatonin is suppressed. Light therapy is very effective when undertaken in the morning after waking up. It is a very common treatment used to cure SAD.
  2. Dawn simulators: Dawn simulators help in the management of SAD. These are devices which work as alarm clocks. However, instead of waking you up abruptly by means of a beep or loud music, they produce light which increases in intensity gradually, just like the sun. There are several models of dawn simulators which are available in the market. You should choose a dawn simulator, which uses a full spectrum light. This form depicts natural sunlight. For people with mild SAD, dawn simulators are as effective as light therapy.
  3. Consult a doctor: SAD is a type of depression and it is recommended that you to consult a psychiatrist. Several screening questions are asked to a patient to determine his/her level of depression. A doctor will also observe whether your depression is because of SAD or any other factor.
  4. Antidepressants: In case, psychotherapy or light therapy fails to cure your SAD and the accompanied depression, you should take prescribed antidepressants. These medicines might help in overcoming your seasonal depression. Try to avoid medicines which make you feel sleepy. If you have SAD, you should take antidepressants every winter and not just during the winters when you feel the blues.

It is very important for you to recognise the symptoms of SAD when they start showing, and consult a doctor immediately. This will prevent the symptoms from escalating and you will be able to get early treatment.

  1. A stress-free start: It makes sense to start the day without any stress in mind. Ayurveda states that a full bowel movement is of paramount importance to start an effective day. It can successfully cut down the cortisol hormone in the blood and the level of lactic acid in the body by increasing the level of serotonin. A 15-minute meditation schedule on a daily basis can do a world of good for people who are living a stressed life.
  4. Therapeutic aroma: It has been proven many times in the past that therapeutic aroma can successfully relieve stress in the short term. The choice of fragrance can be from the flower at home, aroma locket, aroma oil, perfume and so on. These aromas will not only give a feel-good factor throughout the day, but also ensure that the level of cortisol remains at an acceptable stage.
  5. Keeping hydrated: Keeping hydrated throughout the day is of prime importance to lead a stress-free life. Plenty of water along with time-to-time green tea relieves the nerve and has a soothing effect on the body. It is also necessary to forego beverages such as alcohol and coffee for long-term health benefits.
  6. Soothing music: Music has a profound impact on the nervous system, mind and on the overall human emotion. It creates a feel-good factor and relieves stress throughout the day.

How to cure anxiety and fear completely. Not able to travel nor able to go out of the city. Sleep and eating is normal. Palpitations and shaking of hands and vibration in legs. Thoughts r continues scary thoughts. Able to work normal at office.

Dear user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

What is Depression?

Depression can strike a child at any age. A mood disorder, depression is characterized by a persistent sad or empty feeling, irritability, and a loss of interest in everyday activities. Unlike normal sadness or grieving, most bouts of depression last for weeks, months, or even years. A smaller number of children and adolescent suffer from biploar disorder-bouts of depression interspersed with periods of elevated (manic) mood (bipolar disorder).

Although depression is usually not considered life-threatening, it can lead to thoughts of and attempts at suicide.

Symptoms

  • Persistent feelings of sadness, apathy, or hopelessness lasting more than two weeks.

  • Diminished interest in most daily activities, particularly pleasurable ones.

  • Decreased appetite and subsequent weight loss; increased appetite and weight gain.

  • Lack of sleep (insomnia), frequent awakening throughout the night, or conversely, an increased need for sleep.

  • Anxiety; diminished ability to think or concentrate.

Diagnosis

Because there are no reliable laboratory tests to diagnose depression, physical examination and psychological evaluation are essential.

  • Expression of either of the first two symptoms of depression (see Symptoms box), in conjunction with other symptoms, for a period of two or more consecutive weeks.

  • A positive family history of depression or a prior depressive episode helps establish the diagnosis.

Treatment

  • Psychotherapy is as effective as drug treatment in mild cases. Psychotherapy may also be used in conjunction with drug therapy.

  • Antidepressant medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), are mainstays of treatment.

  • Exposure to bright light, known as light therapy, may be effective, particularly when depression is related to seasonal changes (seasonal affective disorder).

  • In secondary depression, the underlying cause is addressed, although antidepressant therapy may also be prescribed.

I need to know if you are having hyperthyroidism (which thyroid problem), high BP and any other cardiac condition. Unless some of the other details are known, no opinion can be given.   1. Slowing down: Since stress hormones wear your body and vital systems down, slowing down to rest, recoup and rejuvenate is the best antidote to stress. Make sure to eliminate as many stressors from your life to cut down on impact of the cortisol bolt. Choosing to prioritize things like adequate rest and taking long slow walks, also help in slaying stress.
  2. Taking a bath: A bath, especially a warm one, relaxes the nervous system, releases tension, and helps to quiet the mind. You can add Epsom salts, essential oils like Lavender to calm, cleanse and relax your body-mind. 1/3 cup ginger powder and ⅓ cup baking soda added to the water increases healing. The ginger- baking soda combination encourages circulation, sweating, and detoxification, and is also quite soothing.
  3. Practising oil pulling: Gargling with warm sesame or coconut oil helps to remove tension from the jaw and removes natural toxins from the teeth, and gums. Just sip a tablespoon or two of coconut oil and swish it inside your mouth for up to twenty minutes. Spit out and rinse with warm water.
  4. Doing Abhyanga- Ayurvedic oil massage: This ancient practice of self-massage with nourishing oils like sesame oil, calms the nervous system, lubricates and rejuvenates the muscles, and promotes healthy circulation. In addition, the oil also forms a protective sheath around the body that can help buffer your nervous system against stress. All you have to do is to massage in ¼–½ cup warm oil into your skin before a shower.
  5. Practicing Nasya: Nasya is the Ayurvedic practice of applying medicated oil to the nasal passages. This reduces stress, soothes and promotes unobstructed breathing. It also ups mental clarity.
  6. Massaging your feet before sleeping: Before turning in apply some warm oils like Sesame, Brahmi or Bhringraj to ground your energy and soothe your nervous system. This also promotes sound sleep. If you sleep well, your stress levels will automatically come down.

I face nervousness due to tightness in my thighs. It has started to develop on its own even on slight worry, anger and nervousness. My hands started also become tight. Though I try to convince myself that it is normal and nothing will happen due to it still these physical symptoms create uneasiness and down feeling in me. Moreover,my fingers shake when I bring fingers closer and this symptom makes me feel embarrassed about when people would see me. So,this chain of thoughts disturbs me. I know about progressive muscle relaxation therapy. I practise yoga also. Suggest remedies for elimination of problem.

Tremors, feeling anxious or nervous, sense of panic, sweating, increased heartbeat, feeling of impending doom, stomach discomfort, dizziness etc are signs of anxiety. These can be debilitating. If the anxiety us overwhelming, consult a psychiatrist at the earliest. With the right medication and counseling, it is likely your symptoms will improve. Other than that, try yoga, deep breathing, meditation, moderate exercise, progressive muscular relaxation and guided meditation.

I am suffering with std, depression,agoraphobia, pani attacks from past 7 months. I am getting fear that I may become mad or going to die or going to faint. I have social anxiety also. I am stick into my room past 7 months. I do not even interested to go out and work. I am 23 years. I am getting inner voices i. Head. Feeling like my head is going to burst. I also getting tingling on lips, head and also face numb. please help me please I beg u.i want to live happily but this mental illness making me a fool in public and also I am getting abuses from my parents that I am not concentrating on anything. They are saying that I do not have any mind and also that I am unfit for any business. please help please I went to psychologist amd he prescribed me medicines. But they giving me sleep and tiredness. My pare. Ts not taking me to psycartists and saying that you are looking healthy. They can not understand my mental illness.

Hello. You should consult a psychiatrist/ mental health professional at the earliest for these problems. What you require is a detailed assessment and some investigations for a confident diagnosis. The medicines you are currently on need to be optimized or you may require combination & augmentation with other medicines. Psychotherapy/ counselling sessions will also help but on a regular basis. Also bring along your parents for consultation so that they can be made aware of your problems. Thanks.

Depression is the state of mind when a person turns hopeless or helpless. Simply put, it is one of those experiences when one may feel sad, lonely, dejected and discouraged. Doubt, anxiety and uncertainty crawl in so much so that they may lead to problems in decision making. A depressed person feels devoid of energy and the motivation to do anything at all seems to have disappeared. And all this may happen for no reason at all. At least not any that can be explained to even the closest of one's family and friends. Surveys have shown that more than 7% of the world's population suffer from some or the other forms of depression.

Depression Helps Creativity: Myth or Fact?

Moving on to the several popular myths associated with depression, one of the most common ones is that 'Depression increases creativity.' The truth is however exactly the opposite. No, depression does not trigger creativity. In fact, creative geniuses like writers, painters, musicians, etc. seem to be more prone to the threats of depression.

Creativity, like everything else, comes with a price to pay: Worth it or Not?

The reason for the cause-effect relationship between creativity and depression is quite simple yet stunning. Creativity requires sensitivity, which makes one emotionally vulnerable. A creative person tends to think a lot about everything and that is what makes him re-visit the past incidents in his thoughts so frequently that he may feel the bruises over and over again. And this is what leads to depression. Thus, creative people tend to be easy victims of depression. They take everything seriously, observe things and incidents closely, think a lot over things and gauge various possibilities related to every event, big or small vividly and this is what makes them both creative and depressed. Yes, they can connect the dots and create but there is a price to pay. As they say, an artist's mind is a terrible place to visit.

Therefore, depression does not increase creativity. Instead, depression is like a necessary evil for nurturing creativity.

I am suffering from a disorder. When I go for sleep some sounds I can hear which is probably ordering me something or punishing me. Sometimes I see something good or bad is happening in front of my eyes ,but after some seconds I realize ,no I was jst thinking, it was not real. Not even that, sometimes when I get hurt from a little thing I feel very much guilty, or I cried too much. Even all my mistake from childhood start to remind me that time. And headache is the big problem that time.

I used lot of numerous antidepressants, went to various psychiatrists. But I am feeling not normal, I am out of sight ,I didn't understand what is going. I am not aware what is going on .I am just feeling I am in other world. Some times I get aware by somehow .then I am disconnected from the surrounding then it is impossible to get aware. I can't perform work properly from one year I can't remember any thing .even if I have to remember any thing I can't remember just if any one can tell me something. My study is badly effected by this problem.in exams I can't write any thing. The pressure of exams is also .I had before this personal problem ,stress, anxiety etc.

You might have seen many but might not have said your symptoms properly. Some psychopathology mimiks depression it might not be so. If the time spent is little and if the doctor is carried away by the word depression then you will be treated by antidepressants and you would not have got a cure. If you have not seen better results prior you undergo psychometric tests from a clinical psychologist from your area and then meet the psychiatrist with the report. That might help as certain things unresolved, unexplored and unexplained might come out in these series of tests. Finally you need to get treated by medicines and if there is a need the Dr. might suggest you psychotherapy too which ll help you in addition to pharmacotherapy.

Depression usually indicates reduced sattvik energy and aggavation of rajasik and tamasik energies. Weakend ojas (which is the essence of all dhatus) often contributes to this problem. Prana vayu is responsible for proper functioning of the mind. Weakened ojas disturbs the prana vayu which then fails to stimulate the mind. Lack of energy, sluggish movements, slow talking, irritability, anxiety, lack of self-esteem, feeling of worthlessness and reduced sex drive generally reflect weakened ojas. On the other hand sadness, despair, and lack of interest in life indicate heightened rajasik and tamasik influences. Diet & Lifestyle Advice Quite a few patients of depression give history of bad life style, improper food habits, addictions, lack of discipline in personal life and unsocial attitude. So maintaining good life style, food habits and discipline acquire lot of significance when it comes to psychiatric disorders such as depression. Getting up early enough in morning, avoiding late nights, doing physical exercises, playing games and outdoor activities help to keep the mind in a positive state. Eating fresh foods, vegetables, seasonal fruits and avoiding alcohol, non-vegetarian and fast foods, and maintaining regular food timings is good for mental health. Ensure that you take meals in a relaxed mental state and atmosphere. Yoga, Pranayama and meditation Treatment: Boil 1 tablepoon rose petal in 1 cup of water for 2 minutes, let it cool. Add 1/2 teaspoon of rock candy (Mishri) to it and drink twice a day to uplift your mood. Take one teaspoon of asparagus powder with half a teaspoon of honey twice a day along with warm milk, it works as a great brain tonic. Take one teaspoon of ashwagandha powder with a spoon of pure ghee. It is very effective in depression. Take one brahmi tablet twice a day.

Dear user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure.
