Your uric acid level is slightly increased. Along with these from your symptoms, imay be your knee has degenerative changes. Means cartillage (meniscus) in your knee is affected. To correct pain and prevent meniscal tear have to take medication both externally and internally. It is a curable condition. For your Uric acid level, at this level we can manage it by mild modification in your diet plan. At least drink 2 and half liter of water every day. Knee Replacement Recovery: What to Expect?

Knee Replacement Recovery: What to Expect?

If you are about to undergo a knee replacement surgery, it is important to know the extent of pain that it involves, and the recovery period that follows. A knee replacement surgery is a major surgery, and a patient needs a lot of time to adjust to the replacement of his knee. The time of recovery depends on the patient and form of surgery that has been undertaken. The steps of recovery after a knee replacement surgery are as follows:

After surgery

  • After the surgery, you will be given painkillers which you can self-administer using a switch. You may also require an oxygen mask or blood transfusion.
  • You may require crutches and should walk within a frame. The ability to get back to walking without any help depends on the patient.
  • You will be taught exercises for strengthening your knees in the hospital by a physiotherapist.
  • It is likely for you to experience some initial discomfort during exercising and walking, as your legs may become swollen.
  • Putting on a passive motion machine may be beneficial in restoring movement in your knees when you are lying in bed.
  • It is likely for you to spend a period of three to five days in the hospital, based on your condition and its progress.
  • An enhanced recovery program may be suggested by your surgeon in which you may start walking from the surgery day itself.

Recovery at home

  • It is normal for you to feel tired and fatigued at home in the beginning. A knee replacement surgery is a major surgery, and the tissues and muscles around your knees require time to heal properly.
  • You should arrange for a person who would help you while you go out for a few weeks after the surgery.
  • It is very important for you to practice the exercises prescribed by your physiotherapist. This is a vital part of speedy recovery and you should not avoid them.
  • You will be able to stop depending on crutches or walking frames and go back to your regular activities and schedule, six weeks after the surgery.
  • The swelling and pain associated with the surgery may take around three months to depart.

The recovery process usually continues for two years after undergoing the surgery. During this period, scar tissue heals and your muscles get restored through exercises. It is recommended for you to avoid any kind of extreme sports or movements in which there is a risk of falling, such as mountain biking, or skiing.

Cervical spondylosis related to wrong posture and continuously neck bending activities, and gastric because of wrong food eating timings and eating over spicy food. And for gastric start with pan 40 mg half an hour before breakfast and for cervical spondylosis mild analgesics, maintain proper posture and physiotherapy would help.

Dear Doctor. My age is 60 now. I am exercising for the last 30 years with some gaps in between. I have high blood pressure and diabetes which are totally under control with proper exercise and diet. I am healthy and can do exercise for nearly 1 & 1/2 hour which includes running on treadmill for 12 minutes with slowly increase the speed. Then weight lifting exercise where I lift hanging weight. I don't do free weights. My questions to you are as follows - 1) When I run on treadmill, my heart beats reach to maximum 175 per minute during the last 3 minutes. I start with 4.5 km per minute and then slowly increase the speed every 3 minutes by 1 km. I don't feel any discomfort and then after 12 minutes of running, slowly I reduce the speed of treadmill till my heart rates gets normal. Is it OK if my heat beats reach to maximum 175 per minute? Any risk involved in it considering I have high blood pressure? I lift around 32 Kg hanging weight and pull up and down with 12 repetitions with 1 minute resting time for 3 times. Same way, I do butterfly exercise with 25 kg weights coupled with 20 kg weight lifting upward direction. 2) My sugar is normal with this all exercise and I had to reduce my diabetes tablet to less than half per day. Also, I feel very active and energetic with 1 & 1/2 hour exercise. After every exercise, I rest for 3 minutes. Duration of my 1 & 1/2 exercise includes this resting time. My question is, can I continue this exercise at the age of 60? 3) I do above exercise 6 days a week with one day rest. Is it OK? Appreciate your valuable advice.

No, you are overdoing it. Also you should not mix cardio n strength training exercises same day. I suggest you read a book (since you r so much into exercise- which is v good, but you need to know the right sequence n duration etc) Don’t lose out work out by Rujuta Diwekar. It’s a really good book with all the answers you r asking me. So I thought it’s better you have first hand knowledge. Hope this helps. All the best.
