My friend has squint in both eyes, she wears specs with (-1.25 and -2) & 180° spherical. Doctor suggested to get it (squint) operated. But we consulted other doctor he advised that my friend should go through laser surgery first because squint can reoccur if eyesight is poor and there is no need to get squint operated it will cure automatically by laser operation. Now we are really confused what to do? Kindly suggest us a way out.

MD - Ophthalmology, MBBS, Fellowship in Vitreo Retina, Fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
If squint is getting corrected with glasses, than we can first do a LASIK. However the powers are too low for this to happen. So, get squint correction done and uf you don't like LASIK, it is ok to live with glasses.

I am a 42 year old Male & have been diagnosed with open angle Glaucoma. Please advise me with dos & do nots. Also which yoga exercises & postures are strictly not to be done, if any? Thanks.

MD - Ophthalmology, MBBS, Fellowship in Vitreo Retina, Fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
Glaucoma is a silent killer of eye sight. You need to see a good Glaucoma specialist, and take guidance. In early stages, you could do all exercises. In later stages, it is better to avoid breath holding exercises. Put drops regularly. One drop is enough. See the Dr. Once in 6 months. Other branches of medicine has no role to play.

My left eye around green & blackish colour & swelling appeared due to yesterday my left met with blunt injury so what should I do ?

It may go away in about a months time. Give cold packs. If there is a direct hit to the eye, you must consult an eye surgeon.

Eye allergy can be easily treated with regular use of eye drops. Avoid allergens, esp the house mites and pollen. Dont rub the eyes. Consult a good eye specialist.

I am 24 years old. I have congenial nystagmus and that's the reason I need to tilt n turn my head to get a clear view/picture. I have consulted various doctors but I haven't found anything stable. Once of my doctors gives me homeopathic meds of which I have seen results Please help me understand if this is curable and is there any surgery by which it could be rectified. I HV been through a lot of teasing n stuff n i think I wanna get done with it once n for all

MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
Nystagmus may arise due to eye disease or due a brain lesion. If it is there from birth, you may not expect much improvement. How is your vision now? If you have better vision in one head position, than you can get muscle surgery done on both eyes, to shift your null point. Than, you will see better, without tilting or turning your head. Get a good refraction done and wear glasses.

My 10 years old son has some problems in his eyes. When he focuses, his right eye goes outward. It doesn't tune with the left eye. I had taken him to the eye specialist and they advised the both eye surgery. I wish to know that is surgery is the last option and why of both eyes whereas the problem is with right eye?

MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
Surgery on both eyes is suggested to balance the muscle adjustments equally between two eyes. You could opt for One eye too, discuss with your dr. Surgery is desirable for intermittent squints.

Dont ask any one, excpept your own Doctor! Each set up has their protocols. With modern surgery, there is no need to withdraw Ecosprin. It is safer to continue them.

For +3 sph+1.25 cyl no. On both eyes giving 6/6 (R) & 6/9(p)( L) and still having problem with specs for distant vision; should I go for Lasik Laser or try using contact lenses at the age of 44 ?

MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
Presby Lasik is THE best option for you. Customisation is needed as you will have large angle Kappas, and large diameter LASER ablations with decenterations will have to be used.

MD - Ophthalmology

Cost per eye can be anywhere from 14000 to Rs. 100000. Depends on her eye condition, and the package you are choosing. All of them give superb results.

I had keratoconus. I finished doing C3R+RING treatment about 1.5 mounth ago. Now i was diagnosed to have iritis . Dr gave me L pred 3 times for 1 month as drops. Now i finished 25 days. The pain reduced . But not completely as my normal eye before. I find looking to bright areas difficult. Will it be all right after sometime?

MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
Please keep consulting your doctor. Needs long term follow ups. Uveitis will settle down, but you may develop glaucoma or Cataract due to long term use of steroids.
