In anemia the rbc is normal in appearence but in sickle cell anemia the rbc is sickle shaped. Sickle cell anemia sickle cell anemia (also known as sickle cell disese) it is a hereditary blood disorder (abnormal hemoglobinopathy)- abnormal hemoglobin in rbc- rbc has sickle (c shaped) cell like appearance causing sickling of cells- does not move easily through blood vessel- forms clumps- gets stuck in blood vessel- destruction of rbc in 10-20 days and body can not replenish rbc so fast resulting in anemia symptoms- anaemia, pale skin, fatigueshortness of breath, tiredness, feeling dizzy, headache, cold ness of hand/feet, pain in chest/ bone/joint/chest/abdomen/jaundice due to rbc break down, ischemia, necrosis causing pain/organ damage, acute, painful enlargement of spleen due to intra splenic trapping of rbc, hypovolemic shock, chest pain, fever, respiratory symptoms (sickle cell crisis affecting bone, lung, abdomen, joint)
