I contracted hsv2 from my ex husband and met and married my current husband of 11 years with the understanding that we both have hsv2. About 5 years ago he did the blood test which came out negative twice. He recently tested again which was negative as well. He also married his ex under the premise that they both have herpes. Is it possible to test negative for hsv2 while not exhibiting any symptoms? Note: I contracted it from my ex husband who never had an outbreak and believe my husband is a carrier as well.

It is possible to test positive for hsv 1/2 without any symptoms. In the test, we check for the presence of immunoglobulins (immunity proteins) against hsv in the serum. It remains positive almost lifelong after an hsv exposure, even when there are no symptoms. But, in absence of active herpes lesions, it is rare to spread the infection; even though the test is positive. For detailed understanding, you can have a private online consult with me regarding the same.
