Hello you must have noticed it before your menses time, if you have a lot of anger, mood swings problems before fifteen days, starting your menstrual periods then you are suffering from premenstrual syndrome. It is very common now a days, it is due to deficiency of essential nutrients in dieat and lack of execise. You should start taking proper nutrition and do some execise daily which resolve this problem. Homoeopathic medicines have wonders in it.

AT YOUR AGE IF YOU FOCUS ON YOUR CAREER YOU WILL GAIN POSITIVITY AND THIS WILL RESULT IN INCREASED SELF-CONFIDENCE AND SOME HAPPINESS FOR SURE. AT PRESENT, YOU ARE FOCUSING ON WHAT YOU LOST. I STRONGLY ADVISE - PLEASE LOOK UPTO WHAT YOU HAVE . WHY BOTHER ABOUT WHAT YOU NO LONGER HAVE! COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS AND YOU WILL REALIZE THERE IS STILL LOTS MORE TO LIFE THAN WHAT IS LOST/GONE. JUST TRY PUTTING UP A LITTLE SMILE ON YOUR FACE EVERY TIME YOU SEE YOUR FACE IN THE MIRROR. YOU WILL FEEL HAPPY. NOW, TRY TO BRING A SMILE ON SOMEONE ELSE'S FACE- ANYBODY WHO IS NEAR YOU- YOUR LOVED ONES, FAMILY, OR EVEN YOUR GUARD OR DRIVER, ETC,. JUST BE POLITE AND ENQUIRE HOW THEY FEEL TODAY.LISTEN TO THEIR WOES AND TELL THEM ALL IS GOING TO BE FINE. JUST SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOURSELF- YOU WILL FEEL SO HAPPY. YOU WILL BE FILLED WITH THE JOY OF BEING ABLE TO LESSEN SOMEONE ELSE'S MISERY. JUST DO IT AND SEE HOW HAPPY IT MAKES YOU.

Dear lybrate-user, you should know this that anxiety is your creation, and getting an insight into it will only end it, if at all. All external helps are temporary & palliative. A counseling session may be of some/complete help, before plunging into drug based help!

Hello Sir, I'm a 24 year old male and suffering from depression due to lack of study. I'm appearing for this year's civil services exam which will be held in August. Thoughts like whether I would be able to clear it or not, if not what will I do in my career etc comes frequently in my mind. So I urgently need your help?

Psychologist,
Hello Sir, I'm a 24 year old male and suffering from depression due to lack of study. I'm appearing for this year's c...
Please don't label yourself with depression if you haven't gotten a professional diagnosis. This will only hamper your recovery and taking proactive steps to help you out of your emotional stress. 1. It seems that the results will impact your life a lot and decide your future. Please remember to give these exams and results only that much importance that they are due for. Ovethinking aboit it is only adding stress and not helping you at all. Life is much more than these exams. In the longer run, your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing will help you find solutions to all your problems. So take care of your body and mind. 2. The studies and preparations are in your control so focus on that. Do your best to prepare well and cover all the necessary portions well. Join study groups etc to get a stronger grip of your subjects. The result is not in your control. So stop over thinking and catastrophising. If you do well you will get a job. If you don't get a job, have a plan b and c in mind. Talk to other students and hear what they would do in a worst case scenario. In india, there are always other options available but you need to be open and flexible for making this change. 3. Even if you don't do well in the exams then try to find out the reasons and know your role in it. If the examiner was in a foul mood and didn't give you marks that you deserved then don't blame yourself. Public exams have this element of grey area and it's best to factor it into your planning. Remember that it's the survival of the fittest and very few seats are available for which lakh of candidates apply. You need to be mentally, physically and emotionally fit to cross all stages and beat all competion. Get a grip of yourself and study well but don't forget to enjoy life with friends and have some fun times to relax yourself.

Dear Farook, Suicidal ideas are common symptom of bipolar illness. You have had similar ideas earlier also. It happens in depressive phase of bipolar illness. That phase goes away with or without treatment after few days. It is just a passing cloud. It is due to biochemical changes in your brain. It can be treated well with mood stabilisers for long term. Lithium carbonate is a good drug in proper blood level of 0.8-1.2 mE/l. There are other effective mood stabilisers also. In the meanwhile, inform your family and friends about your suffering so that they can detect early the relapse of depression in you and take appropriate care. They make take a psychiatric consultation also.

If you want better results while studying, revision is the key. Repeated revision consolidates the information in the brain and helps to retain the information. Other than that, try a daily exercise of recalling your entire day in as much detail as possible before you sleep. Initially only important or superficial details are recalled, but with practice minor details can also be recalled. Be more organized; make lists. Use acronyms and mnemonic devices to help you remember. Take 45 minute slots followed by a 5-15 minute break. Eat and at proper times. Drink plenty of water. Find time for exercise or meditation. Keep time for proper revision at end of study session. Revise before you sleep. Loss of interest, decreased concentration and attention, feeling low and disturbed sleep or appetite are some of the signs of depression. Consult a psychiatrist who will assess you in detail. If you are feeling suicidal or hopeless, seek professional help immediately.

I have been smoking since last few days. After that I have a pain in the chest what could be reasons.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I have been smoking since last few days. After that I have a pain in the chest what could be reasons.
There could be very many reasons. I suggest you meet with a doctor to determine the exact problem and the cause. You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i. E. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

Sex change as medical procedure. Humans are most commonly said to have "a sex change" when they undergo sex reassignment therapy, that is, a set of medical procedures undergone by transgender people to alter their sexual characteristics from male to female or from female to male. Sex reassignment surgery or SRS (also known as gender confirmation surgery, gender reassignment surgery, genital reconstruction surgery, sex realignment surgery, or, colloquially, a sex change) is the surgical procedure (or procedures) by which a transgender person's physical appearance and function of their existing.

Sir / Ma'am, I always feel like my nerves are shaking mildly. I feel like shivering, nervous sweats. I feel nervous and inferior to others. I feel uncomfortable around others. This is a sign of social anxiety, I think. My father is suffering from schizophrenia. For the whole life he suffered. I am scared of the genetic impact of mental disorders. I do not want to depend on medicines for this. I am a sensitive girl. I start shaking when I become angry. Please help me I cannot afford any therapy. Is this condition curable. Is it the chemical imbalance ?Is it remains for whole life. Are hypnosis and meditations audios and videos going to help with this? Please advice me natural ways to come out of this.

M.Sc- psychology, Masters in Clinical Psychology, M.Sc Counselling Psychology
Psychologist, Delhi
Hi lybrate-user, it does seem like social anxiety, the root cause can be an incident in your childhood. Shaking is common when angry, it could also be what we call pent up emotions being realeased. Pls try deep breathing and meditation, a lot many videos are available on YouTube for the same. You can also try Bach flower remedies. I would advise counselling. This is not a mental disorder and a family history of mental illness does not guarantee predisposition to one. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

How can I increase my thinking capacity. To capture the knowledge for longer period.

Ph. D - Psychology, Professional Certified Coach
Psychologist, Ahmedabad
Concentration is a mental skill that you can develop. There are two ways to improve your concentration: first, raise your brain's natural ability to concentrate. In other words, increase your attention. Second, adjust the environment around you to make concentrating easier. To improve your concentration takes a little time and effort, but it can be worth it. In my personal experience with students. This can make noticeable improvement in a relatively short time. Ideas for daily concentration-boosting habits include: mindfulness meditation - many studies confirm that 20 minutes of meditation or more per day improves concentration and attention span. Focusing on your breathing, known as mindfulness meditation, is one of the simplest way of meditation. Start with ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes before bed. Proper sleep -i am sorry to say it. Pulling all nighter will not help with your grade. Unless you are getting sufficient restful sleep, you are not going to be as mentally focused as you could be. Brain game -. The more you use certain skills, the more they are reinforced in the brain. So it makes sense that playing concentration games and games that require you to focus will improve your concentration ability. You need to be consistent in this. Play for about 10 to 20 minutes each day. Have fun, and get the benefits but remember not to spend more than 20 minutes a day. Your goal is to improve your concentration and not the score in the game! eat healthier - your brain needs the proper nutrients to allow you to focus. Eat more vegetables and fruits and avoid consumption of junk food as much as possible. Lot of research has now proven that sugar is very harmful for our health. Reduce sugar and refined white floor in your diet as much as you could. Exercise is helpful in both reducing stress and increasing focus. At-least 20 minutes a day would go a long way. Optimize your mental state & environment in addition to building the habits described above into your daily routine, also adjust your environment and your current mental state to improve your concentration when studying. Create a study spot. Your brain loves routine. Create a place where all you do is study. An obvious choice is a secluded desk of some kind, but the trick is to make sure you only study in that spot. Studying in bed is a bad habit, for example, because your body is trained to want to sleep once you get into bed. Remove distractions. Turn off the ringer on your phone and take other steps to prevent interruptions. Don't study with the television on or with talk radio playing. Some studies have shown that soft instrumental music (no vocals) can help improve your concentration. Block background noises. If you have to study or work in an environment where it is too loud (classroom or open space) or too quiet (such as at home or at a library) you can get easily distracted by outside influences. With the right amount of background noise you can actually block out distractions and enhance your creative thinking. Use time boxes. Set a time limit when you need to study new material. For example, let's say you want to read one chapter in a book (and remember it). Decide in advance that you can have 45 minutes to read the chapter, and 15 minutes to review it. Set a timer to keep yourself honest, then pace yourself to keep within the allotted time. Stay motivated with rewards. If you see studying as burden, it's hard to concentrate. One way to stay motivated is to set up a reward system. Tell yourself you have to earn that hour of watching your favorite show later in the evening by first completing one hour of intense studying. That way, even if the material is dry, you have the reward to look forward to. Take a break every two hours. You mental energy will begin to decline after a long period of study. So every two hours or so, take a ten minute break. Walk around, eat a light snack, or just stare at the wall to relax your mind. Concentrating is the first step to learning anything new. It only makes sense that if you improve your concentration, your memory will improve also. Wishing you very best,
