ADHD In Children

Adhd stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It usually manifests itself in early childhood and creates problems at school, home and play.
The main core features of the condition are

  • Attention deficit
  • Hyperactivity
  • Impulsivity

Attention deficit manifests as

  • Forgetfullness
  • Easily getting distracted
  • Not seeming to listen
  • Being disorganised

Taking a long time to start doing things and rarely finishing them eg homework.

Hyperactivity manifests as

  • Being restless, fidgety, full of energy ‘always on the go’.
  • They may seem loud and noisy often disturbing the class, finding it difficult to sit through the class.

Impulsivity manifests as

  • Doing things without thinking.
  • Difficulty waiting for their turn in games or in a queue.
  • Interrupting others in conversation.

How common is ADHD?
Nowadays adhd is very common affecting 5 percent of school children. It is seven times more commoner in boys.

What causes adhd and how can it be cured?
No one knows exactly but a neurochemical called norepinephrine is abnormal which gets corrected by adhd medication leading to improvement in the symptoms allowing the child to lead a normal life and removing the academic handicap that these children often face. Behavior therapy focussed on improving behaviours helps a lot.

Hello, My wife delivered a baby girl on 6th April by operation n it's first pregnancy. Now she is feeling very tired ...
Feeling of exhaustation and sleepy is very much common after delivery also. And now also she needs sufficient rest (no strenuous activity) at least for 2 months. She should continue exclusive breastfeeding to baby 6 to 8 times a day. She should drink one glass of water every hour, 2 no of eggs per day, 3 glasses of milk per day and 4 times sufficient diet to produce profuse milk. You should avoid sexual intercourse upto 45 days after delivery. Upto 45 days of delivery no need to visit doctor.

Yes the so called 'Painless" vaccines causes less fever, less pain and less swelling at the site of injection. But they still can cause all these reactions. And this can occur with any vaccination.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user, Greetings! This kind of hairiness is mostly due to genetic cause. There is no cream or medicine which is effective or which can be safely recommended to a 1 year old baby. Let her grow up into adolescence and then it can be decided what needs to be done. Enjoy fatherhood! Regards

Whooping Cough In Kids - How Homeopathy Can Help You Get Relief?

Cough and cold are very daunting diseases for anyone out there. Especially for people who have a tendency of catching cold easily. Nobody likes to have a runny nose, vigorous cough and fever. But all these symptoms occur when anyone suffers from cough and cold. However, the symptoms get doubled when anyone suffers with Whooping cough. Though any kind of chronic cough can be severe enough but whooping cough is the most panic striking among them all.

What is whooping cough?

Whooping cough begins with a little respiratory illness and includes runny nose, relentless cough. In later stages a development of vivid, copious mucus with the cough and the whoop sound while coughing develops. Whooping cough can be treated safely. If we look at the homeopathic treatment, there are various remedies for whooping cough. But first and foremost, it is very important to boost your immunity. Good immunity helps you to recover faster. Next you need to add nutrition to your diet, which are very important for your health. So intake green veggies and fruits as much as you can. Talking about the homeopathy treatment, yes there are some common homeopathic medicines available, which are prescribed for whooping cough. However, it depends upon individuals and their condition as to which one would be prescribed.

Listed are homeopathic medicines for whooping cough:

  1. Antimonium tartaricum: This medicine is prescribed if anyone suffers with scanty and prolific cough along with difficulties in chest or lung. The patient may get mucus with cough, but it hardly comes out. As a result, the patient might end up vomiting in an effort to expel the mucus. The cough can be worse in this case, and the patient might feel breathless often. This medicine is prescribed in such a condition when the chest is filled with mucus, but it barely comes out.
  2. Drosera: This medicine is prescribed when a person experiences convulsions of coughing and ends up having cyanosis and shortness of breathing. The cough will be worse, especially at night, and the patient may end up vomiting. There is a chance of getting cramps in feet and hands while coughing.
  3. Belladona: This is a very common medicine for whooping cough, which is usually prescribed in the early feverish stages of whooping cough. If taken properly, it can be effective in terms of curing the illness.

Mostly in the coughing stage, patients may face violent cough with red nose and bulging out of eyes, there can be abdominal pain too. Severe irritation in larynx and headache too are noticed in this period. All the above mentioned homeopathic medicines are likely to be used in treating whooping cough infection.

Most Common Skin Problems In Baby

Most Common Skin Problems In Baby

The skin of a newborn baby is very fragile. It is thin and has low pigmentation. It takes quite some time (about a year) for the epidermis to develop and function effectively. Once the baby turns one, the skin gets thicker and more immune to skin problems. Here are some common skin problems found in almost every infant.

1. Diaper rash
Diaper rash is the development of red and inflamed skin in the area under the diaper. It is recommended to check the diaper for any wetness at regular intervals, and to change it when required. The diaper should not be too tight or left on too long. Applying a diaper rash ointment and keeping the area dry and open whenever possible can help in relieving your baby from the problem.

2. Baby acne
Development of acne/pimples on the skin of an infant is a common occurrence. It is advised to not to apply anything on it. It mostly resolves on its own in a couple of days.

3. Prickly heat
Prickly heat rashes are the rashes which develop on the face, neck, back or the bottom of the baby because of heat. To deal with this situation you should try to keep the infant cool and dry (not let him/her sweat) and ensure that they wear loose and comfortable clothes made of cotton.

4. Seborrhea
Rashes that develop on the scalp, eyebrows, cheeks, chest, and/or neck of a newborn baby (up to 6 months), are known as seborrhea. It appears to be gruesome, but does not bother the baby. It is recommended to use mild baby shampoo and creams to get rid of the problem. If there is no improvement, see a dermatologist.

5. Eczema
20% of the babies suffer from a very itchy skin rash known as 'eczema'. The affected area of the skin may turn red, ooze pus or crust over. It can be a result of an irritation caused due to sweating in a hot weather or due to the drying up of skin in a cold weather. Some clothing, specifically wool can even trigger this skin condition in a baby.
