Drinking tea on a daily basis is good for the health of the teeth and gums. It contains flavonoids and high amounts of flouride which keep the harmful bacteria away from the teeth.

Health Facts

Gist of rujuta divekar's talk today organised by borivali medical brotherhood:

1. Throw out your weighing scale cause it is not a reflection of how healthy you are.

2. Bmi is not an accurate representation as each of us is different. Instead two new terms have come into play- tofi and foti (thin outside and fat inside and vice versa) means you are unhealthy even if you look thin on the outside.

3. New research is showing that cholesterol is not directly the cause of heart disease.

4. Eat 4-5tsps of ghee everyday. It is good for the gut bacteria and will actually help in reducing abdomen fat.

5. Bring back rice on your plate. Not brown not white but handpounded. Eat rice at night too if you have grown up eating it. Leave the quinoa to the south americans

6. Stop looking at food as carbs, protein & fat. Instead look at it from farmer, trader, consumer point of view. So eat what takes the least time to come to you - eat local!

7. All fruit is the same. All have fructose- again eat local grown seasonal fruit.

8. Bananas are good for you.

9. Eat before you drink alcohol - eat early, drink early.

10. Weight loss industry has somehow managed to get everyone to believe that what tastes yuck is healthy and good for you. Don't equate healthy with yucky tasting food.

11. Keep moving. For every half hour you sit, move at least 3mins.

12.150mins of exercise a week is mandatory.

14. Weight bearing exercise is what one should be doing to keep bones strong and for stronger muscles.

15. Oil your hair once a week, rub ghee on your feet and drink plenty of water to alleviate bloating.

16. Salt is not bad for you. Don't go salt free. Use rock salt.

17. Sugar is also not bad for you provided you eat it the right way. Indian sweets are better than your pastries and brownies etc.

18. Work on strengthening your legs.

19. Don't believe that drinking green tea will make you lose weight. A myth that google and weight loss industry has promoted just because chinese are thin.

20. Red meat is absolutely fine as long as you watch the quantity.

21. Latest research is linking wine to breast cancer

22. Eat so much that when you get up from the table, you should feel light.

23. Don't count calories

24. Most important - remove fear from your head while eating. (we all know about the mind-body connection by now)

25. Make lifestyle changes and don't follow fad diets which rob your body of essential vitamins and minerals)

From past one year I'm drinking beer and the effect of it is seen on my face as it's much heavier and wider than before, plzz suggest me how to make my face free from fat and make it very thin?

Do facial exercises to tone and slim the cheek area. Pucker your lips as if giving a kiss, and then push your lips out and pull them back in to work the muscles along the cheeks. Make an exaggerated smile with your lips together. Hold for a count of two and then relax your face.

Hello lybrate-user, as you are having scalp psoriasis, yes we can manage scalp psoriasis in a better way. You must have tried some steroidal lotions and some shampoos but disease will come back. We are treating psoriasis using ayurvedic medicines. We can provide you a oil to be applied at night. You can apply same oil on scalp on sunday or holiday and sit in sun for 15 minutes. We can manage it like that the disease does not come back. Internal ayurvedic medicines will be provided for blood purification.

Hello, i'm 23 years old. I have grey hairs and hairfall. What can I do to get my hair black again and reduce the hairfall.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, i'm 23 years old. I have grey hairs and hairfall. What can I do to get my hair black again and reduce the hair...
Hi. Let me tell you about hairfall. In layman's language, hairfall can be divided into 2 types - temporary hairfall and permanent (which is called as 'Hairloss' rather). In temporary hairfall, hair grows back again from the same hair root, but in case of permanent hairloss, may be because of formation of DHT (Di- Hydro -Testosterone) around hair root it gets choked up, subsequently affects the blood supply to the hair and thus hair root is lost forever. (There are different pattern and types of hairloss, because of different reasons like Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium, Scarring Alopecia, Traction Alopecia, etc.) Causes of hairloss: Many factors are responsible formation of this DHT or male/ female pattern baldness - hereditary, post-illness/ ailment, post-delivery, post- chemotherapy, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalance, insufficient sleep, sudden loss of weight, stress/ tensions/ excessive anger, use of bore water, any other underlying diseases, etc. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg., eggs, pulses, legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. walnut and almonds), iron-rich food like green vegetables, also take flaxseeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) Avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! Use Rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you FIT and YOUNG!! Medication: Take homoeopathic Rx - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa Tonic twice a day and Lycopodium 200/ one dose daily once for 1 month and revert. Also, use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica Hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from this, take Follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. daily once for 1 month. (N.B.: With the help of homoeopathic medicines, we can only prevent further progress of the hairloss, means it will get arrests in the present condition in case of progressive baldness. But, in case there are areas of baldness which has gone smooth and shiny, you will have to choose an option of Hair Transplant along with theses medications!). Investigations advised: Get your blood tested for (empty stomach) - CBC, S. Iron, S. Folic acid, S. Ferritin, S. Calcium, S. Vitamin D3, S. Vitamin B12. If there is any family history of Thyroid dysfunction, get Thyroid function test done as well.

Dizziness Vertigo and Unsteadiness

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelor of Physical Therapy
Physiotherapist, Hyderabad

What is dizziness, vertigo and disequilibrium?

Dizziness, vertigo and disequilibrium are common symptoms and most of us have experienced momentary symptoms. They are all symptoms that can result from a peripheral vestibular disorder (a dysfunction of the balance organs of the inner ear) or central vestibular disorder (brain and pathways connecting brain to inner ear).
Dizziness is a sensation of lightheadedness, faintness, or unsteadiness.

It can be caused by heart disease, brain related causes like stroke, prolong illness, psychological issues, side effect of certain medications, blood pressure fluctualtions and many other condiions.

Vertigo has a rotational, spinning component, and is the perception of movement, either of the self or surrounding objects. Its a common symptom in inner ear disorders. Some of the conditions that cause vertigo are: bppv or positional vertigo, menieres, labrynthitis, vestibular neuritis, mal de barquement syndrome, perilymph fistula, toxicity of ears due to certain antibiotics, acoustic neuroma etc.

Disequilibrium means unsteadiness, imbalance, or loss of equilibrium. It can occur as a primary symptom or along wth vertigo and dizziness.

Vestibular rehabiliation can help decrease these symptoms. If you wish to know in detail please click on private consultation.

I have knee pain is more at the time of sleep. So what I can do? To reduce my pain.

MPT, BPT
Physiotherapist, Noida
I have knee pain is more at the time of sleep. So what I can do? To reduce my pain.
Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).
