I am 22 year old. Is Lasik treatment for has any side effects? Please tell me about problems after Lasik. Any solution than Lasik?

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello lasik is very good option to get rid of glasses doctor will perform few tests (schirmer test, pentacam and fundus examination) and if all tests are normal then you can go for lasik surgery without fear. Success rate of lasik is over 96%. Side effects may vary from minimal like mild dryness, dalk, haloes, glare to severe like infection (very rare). Precaution include: a. Avoid face/head wash for 1 week b. Avoid swimming /water sports for 6 weeks c. Avoid eye make up for 6 weeks cost: depends on type of lasik which varies from 25000 for standard lasik to 1.10 lacs for smile lasik.

My mom is 65 and recently had cataract surgery performed with a tonic IOL lens implanted. Her vision was blurry after and had to have the posterior capsulotomy surgery done 6 weeks after. Her vision is still blurry and she is now being sent to Will's Eye in Philadelphia. Do you have any suggestions on what the problem could be?

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello the reasons could be 1. After cataract surgery, vision becomes fully clear after using glasses 2. Cystoid macular edema. Usually develops after 6 week of surgery. Needs retina evaluation for this 3. Sometimes toric lens rotate leading to poor vision after surgery.

Eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye (sclera) become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: • Eye dryness • Too much sun exposure • Dust or other particles in the eye • Allergies • Infection • Injury Homoeopathic medicine EUPHRASIA 30 ( Dr Reckeweg) Drink 2 drops direct on tongue every 2-3 hrly CINERARIA /EUPHRASIA EYEDROPS ( SBL ) pour into eyes 1-2 drops 3 times daily

Try to eat a nutritious iron rich diet Sources of Iron: 1. Vegetables: Spinach, Dark green leafy vegetables, Lentils(Daal). 2. Fruits: Avocados(Makhanphal), Peach(Adau), Pear(Nashpati), Pumpkin(Kaddu), Raisin(Kishmish), Pomegranate(Anaar). Food: Eggs, Fish, Meat, Cereals, Almonds(Badam), Whole wheat bread, Soybean Drink6-8 Glass water daily Drink 2 glass Milk daily Leada stress free life HOME REMEDIES Slice up a papaya. Papaya fruit contains the enzyme papain. Papain helps exfoliate the skin, making way for new skin cells to emerge. Papaya also contains Vitamin C and Vitamin E, so it's a dark spot fading superstar. Papain is most concentrated while the papaya is still green, but you can use riper fruit as well. Peel and remove the seeds from a papaya, and try one of the following treatments: 1. Slice a piece off of the papaya, and lay or hold it on the dark spots that you want to get rid of. Hold it there for 20-30 minutes. Repeat twice a day for best results. 2.Make a papaya facial mask. Cut the papaya into chunks, then use a blender or food processor to blend the fruit into a smooth paste. Apply the mask to your face and neck. Leave it on for about 30 minutes, then rinse well.

While working on computer in the office sometimes after 2 hrs I can't see clearly or the screen looks blur, is it signal to get spectacle or any eyes problem?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
The solution for this problem is its reduced usage and while using computor use in proper light. There is nothing more effective than controlling usage to reduce and negate the effects. You can also reduce the intensity of the computor screen by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of computor usage or take frequent breaks. Homoeopathic medicine CINELUBE EYE DROPS ( HAPDCO) Pour 2 drops 3 times daily. If your problem of blurred vision still persists then consult an Eye specialist to rule out possibility of weak eyesight.

Causes And Treatment Of Common Eye Diseases!

Most individuals suffer from eye problems sometime in their entire life span. Since our eyes are one of the most important assets and sense organs, periodic check ups are recommended to prevent serious eye problems. Here is a list of 5 primary eye diseases, their causes and care:

Conjunctivitis: This disease is commonly called pink eye. It involves swelling of the conjunctiva lines inside the eyelids which cover the sclera of the eyes as well.

Causes: May occur because of factors like viruses, bacteria and Irritant substances such as shampoo, smoke, dirt, chlorine in swimming pools. Dust, pollens or similar allergies may cause this disease in sensitive people. Infectious conjunctivitis can be transmitted from person to another. This can be prevented from transmission by frequent hand wash and cleaning the common use materials like TV remote, mobiles and laptop keyboards. Avoid shaking hands with other people when affected and also abstain from using contact lenses. This disorder may be treated with eye drops, pills or ointments

Vascular: The diseases can be caused in patients with uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension and other systemic diseases, macular degeneration etc. It can be treated with anti-VEGF injections for further progression and loss of vision.

GlaucomaIn case of this disease, the optic nerve of the eye is damaged and can lead to loss of vision over time.

Causes:  Occurs due to poor pressure control modalities within the eyes . The extra pressure destroys the optic nerve. Permanent blindness is caused if the disease is not controlled and treated. Eye drops, laser surgery, and microsurgery are methods for curing glaucoma.

Ocular Migraine: This temporary disease causes loss of vision in one eye and generally does not last for more than an hour. This might happen after a migraine headache.

Causes: Mainly caused due to health-related issues than from eye problems. Also occurs from regular migraines. temporary blurred vision is related to spasms caused in the blood vessels of the retina. This disorder can be cured by using aspirin, epilepsy drugs and blood-pressure medication known as beta blockers.

Retinal vascular occlusion: This disease affects the retina and lowers the supply of oxygen-rich blood.

Causes: Factors such as atherosclerosis, blood clots and blockage in arteries, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity or smoking lead to this disease. The blood flow to the retina is restricted. Medicines like blood thinners, eye injects such as vascular endothelial growth can cure this disorder.

Ophthalmoplegia: Paralysis of the eye muscles occurs. Can occur in more than one of the eye muscles.

Causes: Happens due to interruption of messages sent to the eye from the brain. Caused from muscle disorders. Also caused from migraines, thyroid problems, stroke, etc. Special eye patches and eyewear are used for treating this disorder, for relieving double vision.

So one should go for regular eye check ups to keep all these diseases away to prevent serious visual loss. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ophthalmologist.
