My mother is 60 years old. She has High BP. Kindly suggest ayurvedic medicine and an alternative to salt.
Salt restricted diet is adviced in hypertension 3 gram salt can be taken daily, so you need not to stop the salt completely however a salt substitute like LONA salt can be used, it tastes similar to normal salt.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest - What Should You Do?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest - What Should You Do?

A cardiac arrest can strike when a person is least expecting it. This is usually termed as a sudden cardiac arrest, which happens due to an unexpected loss of functionality of heart. Does it not make sense to know what is to be done in case one comes across a person who just had an arrest?

The most important thing is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). It is critical for the survival of a victim of heart attack. This is to ensure that there is still some level of blood flowing to the vital organs of the body, without which death would surely be a foregone conclusion.

If you have not received a CPR training, you must do it now. This is because a lot of things can get complicated and go wrong. After all, who wants to make a bad situation worse? In case of sudden cardiac arrest one should drop down and kneel, place the palm of one hand over the back of another and then go onto to perform compressions on the chest at a rate of about a 100 to a 120 beats per minute (BPM). The elbows should be straight and the heel of the hand that is lower should be placed in the centre of the victim’s chest.

  1. Call for help: If you are at the scene, but do not know how to provide a CPR, call the emergency helpline number immediately. Medical help should not be delayed so that the cardiac arrest victim can be treated by a medical professional.
  2. CPR: In order to perform CPR, after about 30 compressions, tilt the head back and lift the chin to open the airway and give two rescue breaths. This is only if there is no normal breathing. Each breath lasts a second and the chest should rise after the first. If it does not, the procedure must be repeated again.
  3. Electric shock: An automated external defibrillator (AED) is very important when treating a cardiac arrest. If there is one available at hand, a shock should be provided prior to starting CPR.

While there may be quite a lot of stuff to take in about the procedures related to a cardiac arrest, it is surely worth remembering. After all, a life may really depend on it!

Hi, I am a 26-year-old male, height 5 feet 10 inches, weight 82 kg. For the past two months I have been experiencing shortness of breath. I used to smoke, but quit about 6 months ago. One month ago I consulted a cardiologist regarding this and had an ECG, Echo, and blood work. Medical history: Intestinal obstruction surgery in 2008 ECG result: 1. Suspected left ventricular hypertrophy. 2. ST- segment elevation (anterior) As the ECG was abnormal the doctor did an echo and the findings were normal. Echo Result: LVID> 26/40 IVS> 15/13 PW> 15/10 EF>66% LA 33 AO 28 Mitral Valve DE 20 EF>0.13mm/sec Doppler Flow AO systolic> 1.30M/sec Mitral E/A 0.78/0.88 M/sec Blood Work: Normal thyroid function and lipid profile. The cardiologist told me everything is normal, but still I am experiencing shortness of breath even at rest so I would like to clear these doubts: 1. Is the thickness of my left ventricle normal? 2. The ECG showed ST-segment elevation. Based on echo results does it mean that I still have an elevated ST-segment. If yes, then should I be concerned about it? 3. These tests were done a month ago, apart from shortness of breath I do not have any symptoms of CHF so I would like to know can CHF occur suddenly? It would be greatly appreciated if you will clear these doubts of mine. Thank you so much.

1.Thickness of left ventricle-is not normal .Your over wt & this causing you breathing problem. 2.St elevation when cardiologist certified normal you forget about it 3.You are in a pre CHF condition Avoid strain to heart, have fat free+moderate carbohydrate+high protine diet+vitamins and minerals, take the opinion of dietician. Your ch.Sinusitis is an added risk.

Alcohol or smoking show their effects on Which age. How our chest can be cure after so much smoking. Please tell sir.

Alcohol or smoking show their effects on Which age. How our chest can be cure after so much smoking. Please tell sir.
Alcohol and smoking do harm to everyone at any age. When you smoke you damage your lungs: when you smoke more you damage your lungs more: and if you smoke less you damage your lungs no less – well may be a little less. Your desire to smoke less is most welcome but it is not enough. You must quit your smoking completely and you must do it now, seriously. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. But don’t fool yourself any smoking is harmful, and you need to seriously get on with quitting it completely and immediately.

We can not decide bp for checking one time, because of your work pressure you may get some time like that but even though you are pre hypertensive patient you may get bp if you do neglect, to prevent that reduce the salt in your diet and daily walking and yoga must.
