My baby girl is 18 months and weighs 10. 4 kg. She is teething around 4 teeth simultaneously and thus not eating anything at all for past 1 week. If I try to force feed her she throws up. Please advise.

Never force feed. Teething is no disease, there must be some other reason for not eating. Her weight is fine.

Pediatrician,
If hospitalized there is nothing to worry about, it is usually viral gastroenteritis and takes time to recover. Treatment is replacing lost fluids, that we give via intravenous route. Relax, have faith and patience. He will be alright shortly.

My son was clapped by his dad on my sons back and thrown on chair after he cut his sisters hair. I recall my son crawling away and his dad running after him and clapping him on his back some more. Another occasion he put a whole pepper in his mouth because he was annoyed by his son. My son was diagnosed by PTSD. My son is petrified of seeing his dad and cries at the mention of seeing him. He talks of running away. As a result he pees and messes himself up. His dad wants to see him. His dad has admitted to having a anger problem. Do I force my son to go visit with him. I am concerned about his emotional wellbeing. What am I to do.

Hi! Your hubby's behavior is very rough and rude towards his son. One thing your hubby and you have to realize kids are naughty these days you need to change them affectionately and not through being very strict. Actually your hubby's behavior would affect your son mentally. It is advisable to keep Dad and son separately for some years until your son gets recovered from this incident completely. Because your son may turn to be a fearful guy in future either in society or college or in any situation because of his Dad's rude behavior. You can actually console your son, comfort him and change his mindset to a more social Behavior. You need to throw away the fear from his mind and make him more bold. You can make him participate in some extracurricular activities like sports etc to make him lead normal life. Try to be his friendly mother so that he succeeds in life. You need to make your son more friendly, frank and bold towards others. So let him be separate from his Dad for few years till he grows big enough to face situation. I do not know what is your son's age but I believe he is very young to handle his Dad's behavior. Take care of your son. Be friendly and make him a perfect guy in life to succeed. With regards, Psy. MSV.

For your baby breast feeding is the best way to thrive. Learn techniques to feed your child regularly if you are a house wife. If working then cow's milk is the best provided you get it pure. Every time you have have to give freshly used preboiled milk after removing the cream. Don't use leftover milk again, if giving by bottle preboil it. Feed at the room temperature or lukewarm.

If your kid is only speaking bisyllables at this age then your kid requires a full assessment including his birth details, development assessment and neurological examination. Child also requires a hearing evaluation. At this age kids usualy make 2 or 3 word sentences and know 200 words with meaning. Plan a visit to a pediatrician or a pediatric neurologist if available.

Preterm babies especially such very low birth weight babies will invariably have some insult to the brain. She might be having mild developmental delay. Show to a good neurologist.

Pediatrician, Pune
Continue with breast feeds till at least 1 year of age, avoid giving top milk, powders, natural home made food is the best for baby, to start with you can introduce rice water, light liquid moong dal, gradually increasing the quantity and increasing the consistency of dal and rice, you can additionally add boiled vegetable after 15 days /1month in dal and rice, subsequently with mashed fruits, banana, chikko, papaya, - see that when you introduce any new food there is a gap of 15 day to 1 month, happy parenting.

Hi doctor, my baby is 3 months old. He is having slow weight gain and looking so lean. His birth weight is 3.4 kg and now he is 5.2 kg. Is it normal? I am on breastfeeding. He is not finishing one breast completely. He is taking only foremilk and not hindmilk. He is very lazy to suck and sleeps often in the breast. After feeding I used to pump to remove the hindmilk. Please suggest what to be done?

My baby is 4 month old. I want to ask whether I can start with fresh juice or not. Currently he is on formula milk.

Pediatrician, Pune
Why not on breast milk? you can start with rice water, light moong dal, introduce new food slowly, every new food every 15 days - 1 month, juices sometimes being very sweet would cause diarrhoea
