She has urine infection. Proper treatment will decrease the frequency of urine. If frequency persists, consult a urologist.

I frequently have the sensation of not having complete emptiness of the bladder and sense of frequent urination. This mostly goes off when I drink good amount of water. Observed this happening at times of consuming more coffee.

Coffee is a diuretic and pushes more water thru kidneys. So frequency increases. If it persists, see your doctor.

Hi, at your age prostate enlargement can cause problems. Consult a urologist for this. Swelling of kidneys is not good. Also if you are retaining urine in your bladder it means it is weak or obstructed. Good luck.

His prostate is spread to back bone and some parts of lungs being Bone Metastasis. His PSA level done in Nov 2017 shown level 782 3. His radiation therapy has been already completed with forties Hospital 4. He has been recommended with zoledronic acid every month with First dose given on 15th Nov 2017 and second on 15th Dec 2017 and zoladex injection every 3 month with first dose on 15th Nov 2017 next due in Feb 2018 5. Doctor after radiation therapy had suggested oral medicine i.e Abiraterone 1000 mg dose is given every day along with prednisone dose. 6. On 14th Jan 2017 his second PSA was done with reduce level of 41. Now doctor is suggesting to continue with the same Oral Medicine along with zoledronic Acid and Zoladex every 3 months We need your advice on the treatment being given to my Father as we keep getting suggestions on going for chemotherapy or other domestic treatment. We would like to do the best for my father’s health. Regards Vaibhav.

Hi, abiraterone and zoledronic acid are good choices. But instead of zoladex which would cost you about 15 to 16k every 3 months, you can get his testes removed surgically in about 30k. Same effect. If abiraterone doesn't work go for chemo.

Hi, frequency may be due to increased fluid intake, stress, high blood sugar, prostate swelling, stone etc. Urine test and sonography rules out most of these. Take water upto 2.5 liters per day. Get blood sugar checked. If problem persists consult a urologist or your family doctor.

I had a stone in my ureter which is approx. 9.4 mm. So I want to ask whether it can passes normally through my penis or should I take some medicine to break it.

Dear lybrate-user, 9.4 mm stones are unlikely to break or pass spontaneously with medicines. It is better to get it removed endoscopically. Usually a 7 to 10 day trial of medicines is enough for 6 to 7 mm stones. If they don't pass, they need to be removed. For 9 mm stones we don't recommend medical treatment, we advise endoscopic surgery. Good luck.

My father is 66 years and he recently got cystoscopy and he was told that his urine passage has thinned so he has undergo laser surgery, they have given him medicines to undergo the surgery after 3 days but the next day he got high fever with chills and was vomiting and frequent stools .so we took him to a general physician who gave him antibiotics, after a one daythough the fever came down he was feeling nauseated so we took him to another urologist and said that my father problem was not so grave to perform surgery and the other doctor should not have performed cystoscopy and asked us to come again when my father's fever has come down and he will conduct the next test, meanwhile my father felt bloated and had constipation so he drank cremaffin plus, by now his fever is normal. But right now he is facing another problem that is feeling pain while passing urine and every 30 mins he is having severe urge to urinate and but only few drops and the same time because of the force to urinate he is passing stools little by little. He is feeling very uncomfortable and not able to sleep at least one hour continuously .doctor has given him 2 weeks time for healing but my father is suffering and wants to undergo surgery to get relief from frequent urination. The cystoscopy was done on 21st dec. We really do not understand how to help him.

Hi lybrate-user, surgery is indicated for prostate when symptoms are severe, medicines don't work, there is repeated infection, blood in urine etc. Right now your father is having prostate issues with infection. Please consult a urologist and get a sonography, uroflow and urine culture done. If residual urine is very high, catheter will be placed for fe days and later surgery can be done. If there is only infection, proper antibiotics will help. If there is obstruction, he can be taken up for surgery.

Bladder Cancer And Its Treatment!

Bladder Cancer And Its Treatment!

Bladder cancer is characterized by irregular growth of abnormal tissue (tumor) on the lining of the bladder. This type of cancer may spread to the surrounding tissues or other body parts as well.

What are the causes?

Bladder cancer can be caused by environment-related factors and smoking. In fact, smoking tobacco is one of the major causes of bladder cancer around the world. The chemicals present in tobacco can irritate the bladder lining which ultimately leads to bladder cancer. It may also be caused by continuous exposure to chemicals such as dyes or leather dust and radiation. These chemicals tend to cause unusual changes in the cells of the bladder lining and causes cancer in the bladder.

It can also be caused by modifications in the dna in the cells of the bladder which may impair the functioning of the cells in the body. This can cause mutations in the bladder resulting in cancer.

What are the symptoms?

1. Presence of blood in the urine, often painless

2. Feeling of pain while passing urine

3. Back pain

4. Excessive urination

5. Infections in the urinary tract

6. Lower leg swelling

7. Pain in the bones, especially in the pelvic area

8. Weight loss

Treatment options

Treatments for bladder cancer depend on the stage of the cancer. The various treatment choices are:

Surgery - In some cases, these cancers are surgically removed by a surgeon. A type of surgery used is transurethral resection of bladder tumor (turbt) where the cancer cells are destroyed with laser by passing a thin fiber into the bladder.

Chemotherapy - In this method, medications are used to target and destroy cancer cells.

Radiation therapy - Radiation therapy uses rays such as x-ray or uv rays to destroy cancer cells in the body

Immunotherapy - This treatment boosts the immune system of the body so that it attacks the cancerous cells in the bladder. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an urologist.
