I am under treatment for epilepsy and have been prescribed encorate chrono 500 mg. And a common side effect of this drug is hairloss. Will visiting a dermatologist be helpful? I know that changing the epilepsy drug is an option but my neurologist isn't agreeing for it.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Then change the neurologist, as hair loss in your age is highly depressing. There are wonderful new anti-epileptics which act without causing hair loss. A good doctor understands the need of the patient and tailors the drugs accordingly. If there is no other option he can tell like that, since other options are there and he is not willing to use them, you have no other option other than to change the neuro.

Hello lybrate-user. Yours problem is related to nerves. You can take electrotherapy treatment to better stimulation of nerves and produce natural pain killer (endorpin).

My wife recently got facial paralysis where her lips and eyes had a swelling and ear and neck burning like anything. This 2nd time after 4 months she got this. Now she is ok however Need your advice if its become critical in future or why this happening again and again and also what's cost for one MRI.

BHMS, MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Vijayawada
Hi Amit, Recurring facial palsy may be due to nerve irritation from environmental conditions, do not exposure to cold drafts for longer periods. You can consult for Homeopathic treatment which aims to cure that sensitivity. Cost of MRI brain will be around Rs. 5000/-

I Had acute embolic infarct left side stroke. Narrow escape because of immediate hospitalisation. Please advise for future life.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Ghaziabad
To prevent stroke in future, management of risk factors of stoke should be done. The reversible risk factors of stroke are ? Being overweight or obese ? Physical inactivity ? Heavy or binge drinking ? Use of illicit drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamines ? High blood pressure ? Cigarette smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke. ? High cholesterol. ? Diabetes. ? Obstructive sleep apnea ? a sleep disorder in which the oxygen level intermittently drops during the night. ? Cardiovascular disease, including heart failure, heart defects, heart infection or abnormal heart rhythm. Management of above conditions and lifestyle modification can reduce the risk of stoke significantly.
