I have hiatal hernia and antral gastritis. It was diagnosed before 20 days. Then I was in a less spicy diet. But I had a mild pain all the days. But now the pain is more and in the right side of my stomach. What is the reason.
Hello there. Pain is due to hiatal hernia and antral gastritis. It will take time to heal and hiatal hernia itself will lead to GERD. It would have been better if you share your reports of ultrasound, endoscopy etc. You have to stop spicy and oily food. Do not lie down immediately after the meals. Avoid heavy dinner. While sleeping you need to raise your headend by 30-45 degrees. For medications kindly consult online. Thanks.

Hi With USG scan, I came to know that there is 5 mm stone in my gall bladder. Is it suggestive to go for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy or laparoscopy for gall stone removal & what are the side effects involved in both the treatment. Kindly Suggest alternative therapeutic options without surgery.

The symptomatic stones definitely need treatment. The standard treatment for stones in the Hall bladder is surgery. Minimal Invasive Surgery like Lap chole or laparoscopic surgery is the recommended procedure these days. ESWL is not useful for Gall bladder stones. (out of many reasons let me tell you why it is so. Reason: the stones in GB affects the proper contractility Of the GB. And good functioning organ is needed to flush out the small gravels which are the products of shock waves. Gravels passing over into the CBD may cause biliary colic, biliary pancreatitis or obstructive jaundice. Second reason is Gall Stone reform in presence of pathological Gall bladder) Lap Chole involves removal of GB through small keyhole type incisions. If the stones are present in the CBD as well, patient may be advised therapeutic ERCP. In cases where additionally CBD stones are suspected (on LFT profile) to be present EUS OR MRCP may help to evaluate the lower CBD. My recommendation for fit patient is to go for Lap Chole under general anesthesia.

My husband's age is 39 he has thyroid his tsh value is 10, is his thyroid is very high if so what should you suggest for him and he is afraid to eat any thing.
Hello, Thanks for the query. TSH 10 mU/L, is showing he has hypothyroidism which needs to be treated with adequate dose of levothyroxine. It is necessary to maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L, to be free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. He should avoid soy beans, soy containing products and should consume a good deal of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Avoid bakery items and foods made of maida. Plus exercise daily for 1 hour. Thanks.

Is thyroid a curable disease? Give a diet plan on what to eat and what should not eat for a thyroid patient.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Please explain what particular condition are you referring by saying "thyroid disease" Because there are two major conditions: hypothyroidism and hyperthyrpoidism. There is no specific diet for thyroid disease. Only if someone has hypothyroidism then soy beans and soy containing products should be avoided. Plus one should consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Always use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Should avoid maida and products made from it. Thanks.
Doctor advised me to take thyroid medicine Eltroxin 12. 5 mcg in morning before breakfast but I am working in night shift, my shift starts at 6.30 pm in evening and shift over at 3.30 am in morning so I take my breakfast in evening at 5.30 pm, so kindly suggest me when should take the Thyroid medicine in morning or in evening, what timing would be best to take thyroid medicine Eltroxin because I am working in night shift.
You can take 2 hours after dinner, don't take milk and any other food atleast 1 hour after medication, but you can take water.

Hello there. Homeopathic medications may help but permanent cure may not be achieved with medications alone. It would have been better if you share your reports of ultrasound, endoscopy etc. You have to stop spicy and oily food. Do not lie down immediately after the meals. Avoid heavy dinner. Hi, past few days I was experiencing pain in between chest and ribcage doctors advice me to do full abdomen sonography and it came out gall bladder stone collapsed and calcus. What does it mean and what shoud be the next step?

Gall bladder stone is a very common problem it usually leads to inflammation and infection in the gallbladder over a period of time and ultimately has to be removed see you have many options to remove it depends on the size of the stone and the function of your gallbladder whether or not It is compromised. So she should consult Gastroenterologist for expert opinion on the same.

Hello, Thanks for the query. In case of confirmed hypothyroidism (ith TSH > 10 mU/L), treatment with Levothyroxine has to be started. Since there is no mention of any values it is difficult to give any specific suggestion. Thanks.

I have tested tsh 25/9/2017 which was 8.56 so my doctor raised therapy from 50 mcg to 75 mcg and said to come after 3 months. But now a few days I am feeling like less breathing very uncomfortable could not concentrate on study.
If you have discomfort you can reduce your dose to 67.5 mcg that will ease your dicomfort. Report your problem after one week. All the best,

Hi. I'm 53 years old. I am a diabetic patient and recently I have known that my gallbladder contains 3 stones 12-15 mm. Which type of surgery will be suitable for me?
As long as the stones are in your gall bladder, you don't have to worry. The problem is when they try to come out. If they get stuck in the neck, you can have severe pain. This condition is called Acute cholecystitis. Try to avoid fatty foods. Have simple diet which is easy to digest. It should help you & keep your bowels clean. If you get this recurrent cholecystitis, then you need to remove it by surgery.

My sister 29 years old, having incisional hernia since 5 yrs, yet not treated, doctors advice for operation, it was having during LSCS, she want third baby so tell me wether pregnancy is safe or not? And if we go for operation for hernia first (smash plenty) then after sometime think about pregnancy? Please suggest me Doctor.
hello. if hernia is small than plan for pregnancy first. because if we repair first then we have to place a mesh to prevent hernia recurrence. but mesh will come in a way when pregnancy is planned and LSCS is done. so better plan baby and then go for hernia surgery.

I am women of age 29. Recently I had a thyroid checkup. Following is the report T3 = 110.03 T4 = 9 TSH 3rd generation = 8.820 I have 2 questions 1) What is the normal range for T3, T4, TSH 3rd generation? 2) Consulted few doctors: few doctors said hypothyroidism is interactive thyroid and hyperthyroidism is overactive thyroid. So my TSH is more so I have hyperthyroidism but there are also few doctors who are saying I have hypothyroidism. I want to know do I have thyroid issue and if I have then what is the type? Can you please answer these questions.
The normal range for TSH is less than 3. Yours is 8.82. This is indicative of Subclinical hypothyroidism. You have an underactive Thyroid. You can test your antibodies. Anti TPO & Anti thyroglobulin. If they are high, then you need to start with the treatment.
