I noticed that my sons behaviors has been changed from last 4 years gradually, after compilation class tenth he left study he has not interest in study and told that he will be dancer he miss behave to parents and relative he want to get and live as he desire he demand costly bike and roaming here and there he made your self ugly like hair style and dress are like tapori when we see i fill gilt because he is connected with us, 4 years ago he was very gentle and obedient but now he became opposite i dont know what he want and what is the problem with him i am not able to provide his demand but how can he survive so, please suggest me what i have to do ?

Let me explain what your son is going through. He has entered adolescence by nearly 4 years now. During this time there will be a spurt in the production of the male sex hormone, testosterone, which has a duration of two years. Due to this chemical alone there are three identified features that present itself over which he has no control: he will be sexually active, aggressive and rebellious, and he will have acne and pimple problems. Then if he has unresolved childhood issues, they will compound the situation and fuel his uncontrolled behavior. Please remember that he himself may not be aware of all this. He is establishing himself among his peers, and he will try to be fashionable in every way possible. What is outrageous to you is very much in, with youngsters today. I am not asking you to become like them but you must understand that this is a different generation and era. He will be seeking a lot of attention from his friends and some of them think that they have to be horrendously different for social acceptance. They will smoke, drink, do drugs, have relationships with girls just to impress their peers. Now what to do? You parents need to become his best friend i.E. You must always ally with him and find the path of least resistance, without displaying any weakness. Communication must always be open and favorable. The moment he hides things and does not communicate with you or you withdraw it, there is serious danger. Avoid all types of confrontations and discus your concerns with him, openly. Indulge in him and make home a beautiful place for him to want to be in. Now remember he needs money for all his adventures, which is a commodity he does not have and is not earning it either. That is your bargaining chip or weapon. Use it to negotiate compliance on a barter basis. Never give him anything without there being some negotiations ? barter with him; you give him something in return for some compliance from him. There has to be some ground rules in living in your house. If he cannot adhere to them, let him choose to live elsewhere, on his own earnings. Let it appear like it is his choice. You have to be strong and firm in some matters. Don?t make decisions for him: offer alternatives that help him make responsible choices. I recommend that you take him for career counseling and determine his aptitude for academic pursuits. Offer him the option then, that he does his course or goes to work. If you feed him with all the comforts, he will never be under pressure to do anything. In fact you may be encouraging him in his negative behaviors by facilitating them. If you can befriend his close companions, especially his peers, you can reach him through them to influence him positively but it has to be done with strict confidence. You may also have some respected elder relative whom he regards highly. Use his/her assistance to get some obedience out of him. Whatever you do, never let him feel rejected by you. There is no harm to tell him that you are afraid as to what is going to happen to him, and afraid that you cannot handle him. This is a fact and so there is no shame in being that open to him.

My name is mohd amir from past of 2 years I have concentration problem in study, I was topper in class.

It is therefore obvious that there is some disturbance in your life which you are not handling well. Meet with a counselor to deal with that. Stress can foil concentration and learning ability. Although concentration is different to memory, they can affect each other. Concentration precedes memory. If you are under stress your concentration will go for a toss, then naturally memory will be totally foiled. So meet with a counselor to take care of the stress and your memory will happily return. You can follow these simple rules in the meantime: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine.

Please do not loose heart. You are very brave and I am very proud of you that for your parents sake- you gave up your interest and took the subjects they wanted for you. I respect your feelings. And I strongly advise you to -respect yourself. You deserve it. How few children are there who go by the wishes of their parents. You are one of those few! so, be proud of yourself. Next, you could not carry on with their choice. Does not matter at all, because you tried to give them happiness but could not cope with the change. This is perfectly acceptable as we are all like that. Many times we fail to do well in a stream we dislike. I recommend talking it out with your parents, trying to tell them what makes you happy. Seek help of a good counsellor and go for interest and aptitude testing. Based on these question-answer tests you will find your strengths and weakness and get guidance on which stream is best for you. If you want take a private online consultation with me alongwith your parents.

I doctor my story is pretty long. I think I may have anxiety and panic attacks. I would be in a situation where I would be asked questions in a meeting in office and I would forget what I have to say. My symptoms include: -cold hands and feet -tight stomach -dry mouth -clenched jaws -unable to understand what other person is saying and unable to relate to it -shakiness -weak resistance to cold -talking fast and often rushing through things -loss of short term memory -blurry vision -confusion -breathlessness -suspicion -Even after bowel movement I would not feel fresh and would often feel I can still go again but when I go nothing comes out -and when I am not in a stressful situation all these symptoms would diminish it would be there but not as exaggerated. Please tell.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. Seems to be generalized anxiety disorder. General anxiety disorder treatment consists of cognitive behavioral therapy, life style changes, relaxation therapy and meditation. Once you learn how to manage your anxiety yourself with the help of the above treatment methods, you will be cured and you can stop the medicines if any. The process could take some time according to the depth of the problem and the circumstances at which the patient lives. Take care.

Anxiety has all to do with fear and your inability (or so you would tend to think) to handle the same. Fear is based on looking too much into the future and imagining things that usually do not tend to happen (usually 90% of your fears will not happen). You need to change your perception of the fearful stimulus then you can change your response to the fear. The first one is the best and will preempt the need for the second. If you are already far gone into the reaction mode, then you need both responses to counter the attack. The way we see things in life (like half empty or half full glass) is very dependent on our attitude. Attitude may have developed over many years but fortunately can change in a matter of sustained choices made and acted up on now. Accordingly you choose to see things as either threatening or as an opportunity. The opportunist will be positive and work with the situation to make good out of it. The individual who sees it as threatening, will, out of fear, try to avoid/run away from the situation or react with anxiety. Yes, self-belief does impact it too, but you can see that prior to that, perception will tarnish the belief system too. Here, you can see that all the resolution lies in just changing your perception/attitude, even if it is against odds. Changing your response, despite the perception, is building up of your reserves and resources to handle any contingency that life throws up at you. And life throws up situations quite regularly and heavily. For this you need to develop a fit mind and body: The former, by meditation and mind exercises; and the later, by exercises and proper diet. You need good sleep too. Included in the development of the mind is the handling of emotions, in your case, fear. These changes will give you a handle on life and your perceptions and responses. Prayer is really powerful, if you are a spiritual person. Repeat some personally framed affirmations that are geared to calming you down and building confidence. Do a personality course too. Anything that develops you personally will be of great assistance in building resilience.

I am facing problem from 3-4 years of stammering problem. I am a student. I can't read properly.

M.Sc - Applied Psychology, MS - Counselling and Psychotherapy, PG diploma in child guidance and family therapy

Hello lybrate user, I believe every person who stutters is slightly different. From the top, we would all look same but if you dive deeper you would know everyone is different with respect to syllables on which they stutter, frequency, places they might stutter, may stutter while talking to specific people etc. So you need to analyse your stuttering with respect to above points so you can work to reduce it with greater efficiency. Here are the things which is useful: 1. Breathing: this has been already stressed enough by other people. Notice your breathing pattern when you stammer. You will notice that you breath shallow while stammering and try to complete sentence as soon as possible which leads to more stuttering. Taking control of your breathing can do wonders. Breath deep and talk slowly. 2. Substitution: when you make note of syllables/words on which you stammer, you can substitute those with their synonyms on which you don't stutter. Another trick is inserting things like'umm'you know'i feel' etc when you feel that you are about to stammer. 3. Mirror technique: this helped me a lot. Shut the door, stand alone in front of a mirror, start reading any small article/chapter loudly for around 20 mins from a magazine/ newspaper which you haven't read before. When you are done with reading that, look in the mirror and try to talk about it loudly. Try it for 30 days and see if you can feel the difference. 4. Acceptance: accept the fact that there are millions like you. Don't try to hide it or run away from it. Accept it as a part of you and try to live with it. Thank you. Try to consult any speech therapist too.

Dear Lybrate user When our self esteem gets very low then we start feeling this way. There can be difference between your ideal self and real self and when there is a significant difference between these two then we get stressed, upset, hopeless and also depressed. Perfectionism also comes when the self esteem is low because we do not want to be wrong or incorrect or imperfect. So try not to be perfect all the time. Its ok if we commit any mistake or do not do something properly. Never compare or try to compare yourself with anybody. You have your own unique personality wich is good and you can always improve it and make it better. Also when our self esteem is low we kind of seek approval from others and what others think about us becomes our top priority and thus we get anxious stressed and it becomes hard for us to do anything even the simple tasks. So you should try to get out of this. Its ok if somebody does not agree with you. Its ok if you make a mistake or do something wrong. Just try to improve yourself for the your own sake. And in such cases we get negative and do not notice anything positive in our kife so you should start noticing all the good things you do and celebrate it (small celebrations or giving yourself any reward or compliment). You can also consult any psychologist and plan a therapy. You can also send an enquiry to us for getting a free consultation.
