Truncus Arteriosus is a type of heart disease that occurs very rarely. It is the result of a defect that exists when the baby is born. The cause resulting in this type of heart defect has not been identified yet. The pulmonary artery and the aorta are joined in babies who suffer from this condition. This disorder occurs when the blood vessel coming out of the baby’s heart during the developing stage, fails to separate completely. As a result of this defect, blood that is lacking in oxygen, as well as blood that is rich in oxygen- flow in other parts of the body at the same time. The defect can be diagnosed at birth or even during pregnancy.
HOW IS TRUNCUS ARTERIOSUS DIAGNOSED?
Truncus Arteriosus may be wholly or partially corrected through surgery.
