The development of a benign tumor in the nerve sheath is known as schwannoma. The most common type of this form of tumor is acoustic neuroma, which causes deafness as it affects the 8th cranial nerve. The cancerous form of schwannoma occurs in areas like the brachial plexus, sacral plexus and sciatic nerve. The perineal schwannoma, another form of this disorder, takes place in the nerves of the leg area. Apart from pain, the condition can cause bladder as well as bowel issues.
HOW IS SCHWANNOMA DIAGNOSED?
Another name for malignant schwannoma is malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor or neurofibrosarcoma.
