Pulmonary atresia is a heart disorder that exists from the time of birth. This congenital condition has the growth of tissue at the opening of the pulmonary valve of the heart, which blocks the smooth flow of blood from the heart to the lungs. The symptoms of pulmonary atresia are- bluish color of the skin (cyanosis), trouble with breathing, fatigue and poor appetite. In most cases a medicine called prostaglandin E1 is prescribed which regulates the flow of the blood from the heart to the lungs. Other kind of treatments that are also given are open heart surgery, transplant of the heart and reconstruction of the heart.
