When the elastic fibers of the body degenerate, Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum occurs. It is an inherited disorder that leads to the formation of bumps, small and yellow-white in color, on the folds of the patient’s skin. It is also capable of affecting other parts of the body such as the eyes, where mineralization occurs. All over the world, 1 out of 50,000 people develop this disease. Most patients tend to be female, but scientists are yet to identify the cause behind this. The disorder has no definitive cure yet, but patients are advised to take care of their health in general and avoid injury.
HOW IS PSEUDOXANTHOMA ELASTICUM DIAGNOSED?
Eye abnormalities caused by this disorder may even lead to blindness in the patient.
