Last Updated: Jun 10, 2024

Benefits of yoga for thyroid

An important thing to note is that thyroid and stress have a strong connection. The several asanas of yoga help in balancing either an overactive thyroid or an underactive thyroid.

Various studies that have been conducted indicate that doing yoga has a positive effect on the thyroid glands thereby improving its function. It is essential to understand that yoga only balances the functioning of thyroid it never provides any cure for the treatment of thyroid imbalance. The poses of yoga improve the flow of blood in the upper part of the body which results in improved functioning of the thyroid.

Yoga has a proven track record of relieving people from stress this would help in improving the functioning of the thyroid gland since both are connected with each other. Yoga also improves the blood circulation in the thyroid glands which is very helpful in the improvement of the thyroid function. For managing and maintaining the proper functioning of thyroid gland, yoga must be done regularly. But for faster positive results yoga needs to be complemented with a proper healthy diet. There are some foods which impact the proper functioning of thyroid gland. Soy-rich products must be avoided as they restrict the activity of thyroid hormone making enzymes. Intake of fats and carbohydrates in the body must be reduced. For the proper functioning of the thyroid gland, a diet rich in high fiber must be incorporated in the diet. People with reduced thyroid functioning must avoid cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage in vegetables.

Antioxidants rich foods improve the health of the thyroid gland thus tomatoes, bell peppers and blueberries can be incorporated in the diet. Foods rich in Vitamin B for instance whole grain are also beneficial. Foods rich in amino acids also help the thyroid gland in producing T3 and T4.
