When one starts running, it should be a gradual process. By that I mean increase the distance and speed gradually so that your legs and joints get used to the process of running. Plus always do warm up before going for a run for about 5 to 10 minutes. Similarly after the run you will have to do certain stretches and cooling down exercises.
