As per your question, you are aware that your wife has a lump in her breast. Going by the age, and if there is no family history of having cancer of either breast or ovary, all the probability is that it could be an harmless lump. Nevertheless, it has to be confirmed. It is suggested that you consult a surgeon for further evaluation which includes an Ultrasound of breast (to find out if any additional smaller lumps) and a cytology test if required.

Cancer may affect any and every organ of the body. Breast nodules or lumps are the usual presentation in males and need to be evaluated by clinical examination and biopsy. Males cancers are easily picked as they are superficial and easily identified by simple self examination.

Have you been operated for the breast cancer or on neoadjuvant chemotherapy for the same. If not, please show to a Breast Surgeon or a Surgical oncologist. They will examine you and ask for a mammogram and ultrasound with core biopsy. The core Biopsy gives the type of cancer, the grade of cancer and the IHC i.e. ER/ PR/Her 2 status. If large tumor or locally advanced cancer, they may ask for metastatic work up like PET CT scan or CECT Scan.

The basic test to rule out breast cancer is mammography. If you feel lumps in your breast FNAC also can be performed.

Hi ,
I appreciate you seeking help. Well, I would advise that you consult a genetic counselor who can assess the risk precisely and suggest mitigation measures as appropriate. As regards difference in size of breasts, its usually normal for the size of one breast to be slightly larger than the other. However, if you have been observing one to be relatively tight/ dense off late, it is advisable to get this clinically examined by your OB/ GYN or breast specialist as appropriate.
