5 Benefits Of Laser Skin Tightening!

Ageing is often the harshest foe to the skin. The years will take its toll on the skin’s tightness, resulting in loose saggy skin. However, there are many techniques which allow for the rejuvenation and tightening of the skin and help you get your youthful look back. Most of these are usually non-invasive or minimally-invasive and include creams, peels, dermabrasion and other such forms of treatment. One such method which has become quite popular is laser skin tightening.

What is Laser Skin Lightening?

As is evident from the name, this method uses a laser or an infrared light source of a specific wavelength to heat up the treated area. This method of treatment specifically heats up the collagen present under the skin and stimulates it to cause tightening. This treatment also encourages the growth of new collagen under the skin.

Benefits of Laser Skin Tightening:

Some of the benefits of laser skin tightening are mentioned below –

  1. It works deep beneath the skin– While most other treatments make you look younger by treating the superficial layers of skin, laser skin tightening works by stimulating the collagen under the skin and thus works from way deeper, making it a more effective treatment. It can easily correct all forms of lines on your neck, forehead, eyes, wrinkles and blemishes.

  2. Minimally invasive– There is no involvement of surgical tools and thus no incisions, stitches or even injections are used. Although the skin is heated up from beneath the surface with the help of a laser, it is still a minimally invasive procedure.

  3. Less painful– Although the lower layers of the skin are heated up, the laser mechanism allows for the top-most layer of the skin to remain cool, thus lessening the pain and discomfort faced during the procedure.

  4. Minimal downtime– Laser skin tightening is a minimally invasive process and is usually done on an outpatient basis. The total downtime is quite minimal and you can resume daily activities quite quickly after the procedure.

  5. Lasts for longer– As the new collagen develops under your skin, the effects start to show in full swing in about a couple of months. You may at best need a follow up treatment to ensure that the best results are achieved. However, once the treatment is completed and the skin tightens, the effects do stay for quite a while.

Avoid Home Remedies For Tooth Whitening!

Avoid Home Remedies For Tooth Whitening!

Frequently asked questions. As suggested by many clinicians does lemon and baking soda whiten teeth?

Baking soda and lemon juice are not a healthy way to whiten your teeth. Although the result may seem that your teeth are whiter you have actually eroded and abraded your teeth. Lemon juice is very acidic and will erode your teeth. Baking soda is very abrasive and will abrade your teeth. Together they can have a very destructive effect. Once enamel is lost, it is lost forever.

A healthier and more effective way to bleach your teeth is to do the in-office bleaching systems or the at home bleaching systems with bleaching trays. There is no way to know how much improvement you will get but you will see an improvement. Some over-the-counter whitening products can be effective if used as instructed.

A good way to keep your teeth white is to get your routine cleanings, minimize foods that can stain your teeth (coffee, tea, wine, soda etc.) and don't smoke. Also, you can use whitening toothpaste and keep the slurry that forms from brushing in your mouth for about 5 minutes. If done consistently for a few weeks you will notice an improvement.

Glutathione For Skin Whitening - Does It Really Work?

Almost everyone wants their skin to look healthy, rejuvenated and fairer. From home remedies to medical and cosmetic assistance, people try everything under the sun to improve their skin tone. Any discussion about skin whitening is incomplete without the mention of glutathione. Often referred to as the "Mother of all antioxidants", glutathione, a tripeptide comprising of the three amino acids- glycine, cysteine, and glutamine, also comes with detoxifying and anti-aging properties, and are extensively being used in the cosmetic industry.

Glutathione as a skin whitening agent
The pigment responsible for one's skin color is Melanin. The enzyme Tyrosinase plays a pivotal role in the synthesis of this pigment. In case of a darker complexion or an uneven skin, there is also an elevated production of Eumelanin (a pigment responsible for imparting the dark brown color). Glutathione goes a long way to inhibit the activity of the Tyrosinase enzyme which, in turn, slows down the production of melanin. Further, the antioxidant is also responsible for an increased conversion of Eumelanin to Pheomelanin (responsible for imparting the yellow-red color), thereby lightening the skin tone significantly.

Glutathione, being a naturally occurring antioxidant also functions as a free radical scavenger protecting the skin from oxidative damage and the deleterious effects of the free radicals such as accelerated skin aging, wrinkles, saggy and tired looking skin, to name a few. There are specialized clinics and cosmetic centers that use glutathione as an active ingredient in a host of skin treatments including chemical peels. In most of the cases, glutathione is used in an injectable form (Glutathione Injections) to ensure its better absorption in the body They are also available in topical forms.

Some of the side effects of glutathione
The use of glutathione should be under expert guidance. People with asthma should specifically refrain from using Glutathione (be it in oral or injectable form). Elevated use of glutathione for long can also lower the level of zinc in the body and may trigger kidney, thyroid dysfunctions and peptic ulcers.

Glutathione is already present in our body. Due to certain factors, we may not have the necessary levels and hence, right dosage of glutathione is given in a form of supplements. Factors that influence the glutathione level in the body

The level of Glutathione in our bodies can be affected by several factors some of which include:

  • Unhealthy dietary habits (processed foods, pasteurized dairy products, artificial sweeteners, hams, hot dogs, smoked and Barbecued foods, chlorinated water) and lifestyle practices (increased intake of alcohol or tobacco ).
  • Stress, lack of sleep.
  • Increased exposure to industrial pollutants, UV-radiation.
  • The level of glutathione also decreases with age.

Thus, to boost the glutathione level in the body, enrich the diet with foods such as broccoli, cauliflower, garlic, spinach, Brussels sprouts, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, parsley.

  • Avoid overcooking the vegetables.
  • Use a non-stick cookware on low or medium heat.
  • Make sure you follow a regular sleep cycle and avoid being overstressed.

It should be restricted in patients having altered Liver functions.

Teeth Whitening - All You Should Know About It!

What is it?
Tooth whitening lightens teeth and helps to remove stains and discoloration. Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can greatly improve how your teeth look. Most dentists perform tooth whitening. Whitening is not a one time procedure. It will need to be repeated from time to time if you want to maintain the brighter color.

What it is used for?
The outer layer of the tooth is called the enamel. The color of natural teeth is created by the reflection and scattering of light off the enamel, combined with the color of the dentin under it. Your genes affect the thickness and smoothness of the enamel. Thinner enamel allows more of the color of the dentin to show through. Having smoother or rougher enamel also affects the reflection of light and therefore the color.

Every day, a thin coating (pellicle) forms on the enamel and picks up stains. Tooth enamel also contains pores that can hold stains. The most common reasons for teeth to get yellow or stained are:

  • Using tobacco
  • Drinking dark colored liquids such as coffee, cola, tea and red wine
  • Not taking good care of your teeth

Aging makes teeth less bright as the enamel gets thinner and the dentin becomes darker. It is also possible to have stains inside the tooth. These are called intrinsic stains. For example, intrinsic stains can be caused by exposure to too much fluoride as a child while teeth are developing. Other causes include tetracyclineantibiotics.

They can stain a child's teeth if taken by a mother during the second half of pregnancy or by a child who is 8 years old or younger. Teeth are still developing during these years. Trauma can also darken a tooth and tooth whitening is the most effective way to treat on surface (extrinsic) stains.

10 Unknown Facts About Tooth Whitening!

10 Unknown Facts About Tooth Whitening!

There is a myth that whitening erases all the damage they’ve done to their teeth over their lifetimes. The opposite is true — the better you’ve cared for your teeth, the greater the results. If you have kept up on your dental appointments, brushed and flossed regularly,  and avoided damage and discoloration, the whiter your teeth will appear after treatment.

Too much whitening gel too fast will permanently damage teeth.  Over-whitening can make them look translucent or discolored

Ultra-violet (UV) light is a frequency of light that works by accelerating the whitening gel to act faster.  This process is FDA regulated and only offered under dentist supervision. Caps and veneers will neither whiten nor stain.  Immediately after whitening (regardless of the product you use),  your teeth are more susceptible to restaining. The pores in your teeth are slightly more open and can more easily allow stains in.

 Teeth Whitening

Know Before You Go-If you have extrinsic discoloration (i.e. staining from things like coffee and tea) it can be removed by cleaning the teeth with professional teeth cleaning. Bleach will not work well on extrinsic discoloration. If you have intrinsic yellowing, no amount of stain-removing toothpaste can lighten the intrinsic color of the tooth. You’ll need to whiten your teeth using a bleaching gel that is held up against the teeth.

What we think & what happens actually

After whitening treatment  it is completely normal for sensitivity to occur.  The teeth become temporarily dehydrated which reduces their ability to insulate the nerve from changes in temperature. Sensitivity will disappear 12-36 hours after whitening. To prevent soft tissue irritation use gingival barrier.
