Distract yourself. Do the dishes, turn on the tv, take a shower, or call a friend. The activity doesn’t matter as long as it gets your mind off smoking.
Remind yourself why you quit. Focus on your reasons for quitting, including the health benefits (lowering your risk for heart disease and lung cancer, for example), improved appearance, money you’re saving, and enhanced self-esteem.
Get out of a tempting situation. Where you are or what you’re doing may be triggering the craving. If so, ...more

That is called tolerance and dependence: that is, over a period of time the body adjusts to the dose and wants more cigarettes for the same effect. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged on. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too...more

It’s hard to quit smoking, but you can do it. To have the best chance of quitting and staying a non-smoker, you need to know what you’re up against, what your options are, and where to go for help. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) can help with the difficult withdrawal symptoms and cravings that 70% to 90% of smokers say is their only reason for not giving up cigarettes. Using NRT reduces those symptoms.

Dear lybrate-user,
there will be no such feeling as in this short period there are little chances to develop physical or psychological dependence, though you may feel cravings. Try to overcome it. I am damn sure that you can do it. Keep faith on you and you will defeat the cravings. Thank you.

You have done a wonderful job convincing her to give up smoking so easily. But now is the tough task. Any way, she cannot stop easily, if she herself does not want to. It must ideally come from her own desire to stop. You can force her to stop by admitting her in a rehabilitation center, if they also do not allow smoking (unfortunately many centers dole out daily quota of cigarettes). If you admit her in one of the naturopathy institutes, she will have to abstain from the consumption and that wi...more
