It’s not always necessary to treat a varicocele. However, you may want to consider treatment if:
your varicocele causes pain
your varicocele causes testicular atrophy
your varicocele causes infertility
you’re thinking about assisted reproductive techniques.

The pooling blood around the testicle increases the pressure, which may cause shrinkage. Infertility is another strong possibility for those who don't get varicocele treatment. Untreated varicoceles of large veins can cause overheating. That, in turn, affects the number, mobility, and quality of the sperm.

Varicoceles are common and usually form during puberty, though they can also appear later in life. They affect as many as one in six men between 15 and 25 years old. Although varicoceles don't always need treatment, they can cause pain or fertility problems and may require medical attention.
