I have gone through the details given, however, there is no mention of actual glucose levels like - fasting & PP and HbA1c%. If a person has Type! diabetes then only Insulin injection is given. Oral drugs do not work in that condition. Since you are also using Pioglitazone, that means it is Type 2 diabetes. Insulin is given to achieve a quicker control on blood glucose. It is very essential to monitor glucose levels carefully while one is on high altitude tricking. It is better to maintain glucose level around 160 plus (9 mMoles/L) so as to avoid hypoglycemia or hyper one. It is essential to carry glucose gels and even glucagon injections in case of hypoglycemia. Glucometers may not give correct readings due to extreme temperatures.
