Hi, Blood sugar may fluctuate for many reasons like food, activity etc. Please make sure that your test was done accurately and do a test again after a week. Consult a doctor before making any conclusion, it can be a technical glitch in your report. But if your blood sugar is high don't leave it unattended. Please note that most of the people are diagnosed with diabetes when blood test is done for some other diseases. Diabetes may not show any evident symptoms for a long time but will be putting...more

I am sure aware that in a well controlled diabetes patient FBG should be just about 100 mg or a bit more, PP should be 150 to 170 mg& HbA1c% closer to 6.5%. That means there is a need to achieve much stricter glucose control. Usually if fasting glucose goes above 140 mg, then you should increase night dosage of Insulin by 2 units and if post lunch level goes above 180 mg...more

Dear Mr. lybrate-user,
I note that for a height of 158 cm (5'2") your weight of 82 kg is too much. The ideal weight for your height would be 55-60 kg. If you go on a very strict 1500 calorie diabetic diet and walk for 5-6 km per day your weight will start coming down and along with this your insulin requirements will come down

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
I have gone through the details given, however, there is no mention of actual glucose levels like - fasting & PP and HbA1c%. If a person has Type! diabetes then only Insulin injection is given. Oral drugs do not work in that condition. Since you are also using Pioglitazone, that means it is Type 2 diabetes. Insulin is given to achieve a quicker control on blood glucose. In many cases once the strict control is gained, Insulin injections can be disconti...more

Hello, Thanks for the query.
It is very essential to monitor glucose levels carefully while one is on high altitude tricking. It is better to maintain glucose level around 160 plus (9 mMoles/L) so as to avoid hypoglycemia or hyper one. Similarly Insulin also should be properly stored. High altitude can lead to hypoglycemia due to e...more
