A common cause of ear pain when swallowing is an ear infection. Most ear infections are caused by a bacterial or viral infection in the middle ear. They usually cause swelling, fluid buildup, and irritation inside your ear, which can cause pain. Ear infections are common in children, but adults can also get them.

The most common cause of tinnitus is damage and loss of the tiny sensory hair cells in the cochlea of the inner ear. This tends to happen as people age, and it can also result from prolonged exposure to excessively loud noise. Hearing loss may coincide with tinnitus.

While some ear discharge is normal for a healthy, functioning ear, an abundance of clear fluid leaking from the ear can be caused from thin cerumen, a ruptured eardrum, a signal of an underlying ear infection, or a skin condition within the ear canal.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user,
studies show that local skin toxicity happens much before the topical retinoids' absorption into blood stream and even if it is absorbed, it is in negligible and clinically insignificant levels. Oral retinoids are however in much higher dosage and very rarely (<1 in 10000) have been known to cause reversible tinnitus and hearing loss. (so if the medication is stopped the tinnitus goes away and hearing improves). I would however suggest that you consult an ent surgeon t...more

Tinnitus is when you experience ringing or other noises in one or both of your ears. The noise you hear when you have tinnitus isn't caused by an external sound, and other people usually can't hear it. Tinnitus is a common problem. It affects about 15% to 20% of people, and is especially common in older adults.
