Hello, for relief from pain, you can use medication. X-ray would help a dentist to know the condition of the joint. Avoid eating hard food, avoid wide opening of mouth for some days.

The sound from the jaw joint (tmj) can be normal or pathologic. A specialist dentist can tell you the difference after observing sign and symptoms/ examination of tmj/ x-ray of tmj. So I suggest you to visit an oral medicine/ oral surgery expert to know the facts.
