Advice her to take healthy food like vitamin e and a high amount of selenium,
reishi mushroom. These foods are very essential need in diet for muscular dystrophy. Without complete information medicine advice is useless.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. I am not aware of any medical treatment, mainstay remains intensive physical therapy and rehabilitation plus surgical options in case of a deformity, contractures etc but there are some scientific studies which have used corticosteroids to some beneficial effect. Muscular dystrophy in some cases is self limiting. Physiotherapy helps in preventing contractures & defomaties.
Fortunately these patients are intelligent & their intellect is not affected. They should be employed in places where not much of physical force is requrid keep his moral up.

It's a progressive disease but we can slow it down by doing normal streatching exercises do not go for though exercises with weights, need to keep an eye on the posture walking and other ADLs.

Yes. Sugar and salt in excess are better avoided. You should maintain weight with good eating habits. Restrict carbohydrates to complex ones only which are rich in fibre and fill you up with lesser calories. Avoid simple sugars completely. 'Eat Out' less and have good quantity of fresh foods (Fruits, Vegetables) which are not processed. Eat small and at frequent intervals. Have plenty of water and sleep well. Have a moderate fat intake including good quality fats / oils which are not processed.

Yes the treatment involves gentle passve movement to all affected joints n muscles. Active or active assisted exercises for the affected limbs. Strenghthening exercises. Massage to the part with paralittol oil twice daily. It takes long sessions to improve muscles power
