Hello, Thanks for the query.
With TSH at 38 mU/L, you are having uncontrolled hypothyroidism. This can cause multiple symptoms like weight gain, swelling of face, legs, dry skin, dry hair, hair fall, change in speech, inability to to concentrate, and think clearly. Plus excessive tiredness and fatigue will be felt. Thanks.

Hello, Thanks for the query Hypothyroidism when untreated will lead to weight gain. Thyroxine when taken in adequate dose helps in controlling the TSH level (ideally around 3 to 4 mU/L), that will prevent all symptoms including weight gain Thanks.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
When on treatment with thyroxine it is necessary to maintain TSH < 3mU/L to be free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. So please check TSH value and if it is higher than that mentioned above, then dosage may have to be increased and TSH has to be checked again after 6 weeks. It is essential to mainntain TSH at that level. Thanks.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query,
For patients with hypothyroidism only soy beans and soy containing products are to be avoided. All other foods, fruits and seeds are fine. You can definitely take all those things mentioned. Most important is your TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L to be free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thanks.

Hi lybrate-user
calcarea card is a homoeopathic medicine. It can be used for people gaining weight but only if the symptoms match. If some doctor has prescribed you then you can take calcarea carbonica 200 1 dose only. Thyroidinum 1x is the medicine specifically for hypothyroid in homoeopathy.
