You should avoid lifting heavy weights. Avoid cough and constipation. There is no specific cause for hernia. Symptoms is usually a swelling in groin region which becomes prominent on cough or doing some heavy work. Treatment of hernia is surgery only.

constipation can arise due to a number of reason. Inadequate water intake and low fibre diet are important causes. It is therefore essential to drink at least 2 litres of water per day. High fibre diet may help in relieving constipation.

It may ache but is not tender when touched.
Sometimes pain precedes the discovery of the lump.
The lump increases in size when standing or when abdominal pressure is increased (such as coughing).
