Banana as superfood.

Banana as superfood.
You could call the fruit kela (banana) nature’s convenience food. They are widely available, inexpensive, and found in their own natural packaging. You don’t need to wash them, and you can eat them on the go and at any time of day. From a baby’s first weaning food to a snack that seniors with chewing difficulties can easily manage, banana can be enjoyed throughout your life.

Banana vary in size. According to the US Department of Agriculture, one medium banana will give you just over 100 kcal and 3 grams of fibre (around 10 per cent of your daily fibre needs). They’re rich in potassium (13 per cent of your daily needs), which helps to maintain healthy blood pressure. Banana also provide vitamin C and are naturally free from fat, cholesterol and sodium.

Three things to do with Banana:
•Bake them: Simply slit open the skin with a knife and pierce the banana with sliced almonds. Bake until soft and the colour has brightened a little. Serve with low fat yogurt. Katcha kela, or plantain, is used like root vegetables in savoury dishes. You can bake them too – they take longer to bake, but can be enjoyed with a sprinkle of chili powder and lemon juice.
•Freeze them: Freeze slices of banana and use them as fruity ice cubes, a snack to replace sweets, or whizzed up in a blender with milk and strawberries for a refreshing smoothie.
•Spice them: Heat mustard seeds and cumin seeds in a pan with a little oil; add thick slices of banana and sauté with haldi and chili (add a little water to prevent it from sticking). Top this with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with chapatti. A tasty sweet and spicy dish!

Banana, sexual superfood to boost sperm count

Banana, sexual superfood to boost sperm count

Infertility, a condition of the reproductive system that prevents the conception of children after regular intercourse for a period of one year without the use of any contraceptive, may arise from different health conditions which can make getting pregnant difficult.

Semen is a rite of passage for men. It is a tell-tale sign of being very virile and masculine. It marks the climax of a very happy sexual encounter. The man has a powerful orgasm and the woman is there to witness the power of that orgasm. Semen is needed in both of these examples and without the right amount and quality, everything falls apart. The man is not able to impregnate his wife or have the powerful orgasm that both he and his partner want him to experience.

Studies show that the semen of the average man today has half the normal sperm, and is of poorer quality, than 50 years ago. This is believed to be caused by exposure to xenoestrogens (pcbs, ddt, dioxin, other pesticides, plastics and industrial pollutants) that mimic the effects of oestrogen.

Research shows that there are plenty of men who are having a hard time impregnating their wives because their sperm count is too low. Although it is often blamed on the female when a couple is not able to conceive, men can also have fertility problems if their sperm count is too low, according to the journal complete source for natural health and wellness (alive).

Heat can reduce sperm production; sitting for long periods of time and wearing of tight-fitting underwear that constricts the testes can also elevate temperatures long enough to suppress sperm production.
Wearing of nylon or tight underwear can cause heat for the scrotum, thereby pressing the testes and causing an increase in the temperature which affects the sperm quality. The impact of xenoestrogens can be prevented or minimised by doing the following:

  •  reduce chemical exposure;
  •  use office paper products whitened without chlorine.
  •  use only non-bleached coffee filters, paper, napkins and toilet tissue to reduce dioxin exposure.
  •  eat organic food as much as possible to avoid pesticides and herbicides.
  •  avoid synthetic deodorants and cosmetics; use only organic products whenever possible.
  •  avoid animal products with a high fat content that contain hormones, especially conventional milk and dairy products.
  •  avoid alcohol and caffeine.
  •  avoid fried, charcoal-broiled or barbecued forms of cooking.
  •  eat lots of foods high in antioxidants (carotenes, vitamins a, c, e and selenium) such as green leafy vegetables, kale, carrots, citrus, broccoli, cauliflower and yams.

Vitamin e enhances the production of good quality spermatozoa and improving the diet by consuming more vegetables and fruits will also boost good quality sperm production.

Improve diet

  •  getting plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes can help boost fertility.
  •  avoid tobacco, refined carbohydrates, coffee, tea, alcohol and foods with artificial additives.
  •  maintain an ideal weight. Food deprivation in men leads to loss of sex drive and structural changes to reproductive tissue leading to infertility.

Obesity, on the other hand, can be associated with a low sperm count and impotence, possibly because of higher temperatures caused by excess fat near the testes.

Exercise regularly
Regular exercise (five times a week for at least 45 minutes) and a healthy diet enhance fertility by keeping body weight at normal levels and relieving stress and anxiety.

Take nutritional supplements
For men, the most important supplemental nutrients to enhance fertility are vitamin c and zinc. Vitamin c helps prevent sperm from clumping or sticking together, thus improving the chances for fertility.

Zinc supplementation has been shown to increase testosterone levels, sperm count and sperm motility. High zinc sources include oysters, organ meats, lean beef, turkey, lamb, herring, wheat germ, legumes and nuts.

Banana: another sexual super food is a rich source of magnesium, vitamin b1, vitamin a, vitamin c, and protein, which are required to improve and stimulate the production of more sperm. This fruit is also rich in vitamin b and bromelain, which are powerful sexual hormone regulators that can help to enhance sexual virility. Try to include banana in your daily diet. You can also prepare banana shake and smoothie to enjoy its benefits.

Expert says sometimes, female infertility is related to a hormonal imbalance. In this case, symptoms can also include skin changes, including more frequent acne; changes in sex drive and desire; dark hair growth in man-like places (hirsutism), such as on the lips, chest and chin; loss of hair or thinning hair; weight gain. Other symptoms that may result from disorders linked to infertility include insulin resistance, milky white discharge from nipples unrelated to breastfeeding, pain during sexual intercourse, structural problem in the reproductive organs which is found during a pelvic exam or imaging test. Infertility symptoms in men can be vague; they may go unnoticed until pregnancy is attempted. Symptoms depend on what is causing infertility. They may include changes in hair growth, changes in sexual desire, low sperm count, pain, lump, or swelling in the testicles, problems with sexual function (erection and ejaculation), small firm testes.
Following some of the suggestions were given below can help in boosting sperm count and thereby the chances of conception. They are:

Cut down on unhealthy habits: it has been medically proven that alcohol and smoking are the main causes of male infertility. Nicotine as well as alcohol inhibits the production of healthy sperms. Men who consume drugs along with alcohol and smoke are at a higher risk of infertility. It is advised to seek professional help to fight such problems.

Take control of stress levels: stress, depression and other heart ailments are some of the other causes of male infertility and low sperm count. Heredity could be another reason. Tensions at the workplace and other personal problems may cause depression which can also lead to male infertility.

He, therefore, advised that men take a break from work to stretch and move around for air and also avoid long distance drive.

Therefore, simple and practical changes introduced in the lifestyle can go a long way to fight the problems of infertility.

Superfood For Weight Loss!

Superfoods for weight loss

Despite the fact that there is no one food which is a holy grail for weight loss, Fortunately, there are certain foods that can help you achieve your weight-loss goal. Most of the foods consumed as part of a weight-loss diet have a few things in common: they're either high in fiber (which helps keep your tummy feel full for a longer period) or have a low energy density. The following types of food will help you eat a decent portion of meal without binging on calories.

1) Oatmeal

Starting your day with a bowl of oatmeal can result in a lower number on the scales. After eating oatmeal, you will feel significantly fuller and less hungry unlike eating any other cereal. Also, your calorie intake at lunch will be lower after eating oatmeal than after eating breakfast cereal. While both breakfasts may contain the same amount of calories, the oatmeal, on the other hand, provides more fiber, more protein, and less sugar than any cereal

2) Eggs

Eggs are tremendously rich in high-quality protein, fats and other essential nutrients, like vitamin D and choline. The protein, and the time of day to eat them, especially makes them a powerhouse for weight loss. Having a high-protein breakfast helps in weight loss, because protein gives you satiety while regulating appetite and hunger hormones, helping fend off your hunger until your lunchtime. A study found that eating eggs for breakfast helped people eat less throughout the day.

3) Avocados

Avocados are a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, potassium, dietary fiber, and phytochemicals. According to a study in Nutrition Journal, people who consume avocados tend to have lower BMI than those who don't. Avocados are higher in calories than other vegetables and fruits, their satisfying fiber and fat combo can help you lose some pounds. Add this green superfood to your salad,or sandwich for a burst of creamy flavour.

4) Beans, lentils, peas and chickpeas

A group of beans, lentils, peas and chickpeas, are known as pulses. They can influence weight loss due to their high protein and fiber content and the effect of fullness.

Pulses also contain soluble fibre similarly like oatmeal, which might slow down absorption and digestion. Consuming protein leads to the release of hormones that signal fullness to the brain.

5) Almonds

Almonds are high in protein and an excellent source of fiber. As said earlier, eating foods with the punch of fiber and protein can help you feel fuller for longer time as they make it less tempting to reach for an unhealthy snack to eat between meals.

Being rich in vitamin E and a good source of healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats, almonds are a great pick to sprinkle over a side dish or salad. You can also use them as a substitute in place of other nuts like walnuts or pine nuts. Simply keep some almonds handy in your bag or a purse to eat them as an emergency snack.

Apart from the discussed foods, fruits, cruciferous vegetables, berries, salmon, and yoghurt are some foods which also help in losing some weight.

It would be best to limit foods with added sugar, fried foods, processed foods, high-fat meats, when you're trying to shift some pounds.

Although the right foods might help, exercising daily is essential for losing weight and keeping the pounds off. It is important to consult a doctor or nutritionist before opting for a change in diet or starting any physical activity plan.

How Spinach Is a Superfood for Your Body

How Spinach Is a Superfood for Your Body

While we all believe that green leafy vegetables are to be included as part of our regime, not all of us know in detail the amount of goodness that is packed in these. The first thing that comes to mind at the thought of leafy green vegetable is the tender, green, luscious looking spinach.  However, not all of us know the amount of goodness and nutrition it stores within in.  Spinach, though appears to be delicate and light, puts up a strong fight against inflammatory problems, stress-related problems, cardiovascular issues, bone diseases, and various types of cancers.

  1. Minerals and vitamins: Fresh green spinach is loaded with a multitude of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, C and K. Major minerals contained in spinach include manganese, iron, magnesium, copper, potassium, phosphorus, and selenium.
  2. Anti-cancer benefits: The antioxidant properties in spinach come from carotenoids and flavonoids, and it is loaded with about a dozen flavonoid compounds, thereby getting a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties.  Spinach helps in reducing inflammation in the stomach lining and other areas, thereby reducing chances of intestinal cancer.  It also provides significant protection against prostate cancer.  The incidence of skin papilloma is also reduced with increased consumption of spinach.
  3. Anti-inflammatory benefits: The good amounts of vitamin C, E, A, zinc, manganese, selenium are beneficial for reducing stress and thereby reduce incidence of heart attacks and high blood pressure.  Spinach also is rich in protein and contains some peptides (small protein units) which inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme, which is responsible for increasing blood pressure. This is another way how spinach helps lower blood pressure.
  4. Eyes: Lutein and zeaxanthin are two carotenoids, which protects the eyes against cataracts and macular degeneration.
  5. Bones: The bacteria in the stomach convert vitamin K1 in spinach to vitamin K2. While vitamin K1 supports the bones by reducing the number of osteoclasts (cells that break down bones), vitamin K2 activates osteocalcin, which promotes bone formation. The high levels of calcium and magnesium only make it even better for the bones.
  6. Digestive system: With the good fiber content it has, there is reduced instance of constipation. The anti-inflammatory property helps keep the stomach lining healthy and less prone to ulcers.  It also helps flush out toxins and keeps the body alkaline, which helps beat stress.
  7. Skin: The various minerals and vitamins in spinach reduces chances of skin infections and also adds to the glow of the skin.  The itchiness and dryness of the skin also is reduced with regular use of spinach.
